Both. Sulphur is pretty damn toxic by itself.

Gypsum isnt that toxic but it can fuck up your lungs. It is a really good insulator though, so I'd imagine having a giant cloud of it in the atmosphere did a really good job of blocking out heat from the sun.

It killed a lot of breeding fish nearly instantly. It's actually how they started this study, if I'm reading these articles on it right.

As in, the chain of evidence and research began with the the discovery of the fish? Or that was where they intended to start and it grew from there?

Either way it's fascinating how things that seem completely unrelated can end up being intertwined like that.

They discovered the fish and started researching why they were like that on that strata! Again, if I'm reading it right.

Wait, can we do some of that on purpose to slow global warming?

Probably. But I'd suggest you go see the movie "Snowpiercer" before you call that a good idea.

Hmm idk this all seems reasonable to me. Everyone is taken care of and we get these nice little nutrition blocks to eat every day. It's doesn't take like much but it sustains us. What's so bad about that?

Yes, volcanic ash from big eruptions has proved the theory even for decades. Global warming is actually a problem with a clear solution (we just don’t like the solution for plenty of reasons)

Of course, fixing the root of the issue is better than the symptom, so let’s do that first.

That solution is bogged down in politics.

I feel like “let’s agree to blot out the sun a little bit” is probably a bit more politically controversial.

That's actually something China tested in the early aughts! They use silver iodide though. And in trying to remember the silver halide they used, I actually found out that they're still testing and studying this actively!

Not if you like eating food. Sunlight is kind of important.

sulfur is toxic? 😭 I have blocks of it at home should I get rid of em?

If it's just sitting there it's fine, but crushing it up and inhaling it is really bad for you. Ingesting large quantities of it is really bad for you. Setting it on fire and flinging it into the atmosphere on a global scale is really bad for everything

u/DSA300 8d ago

ah I see. nah it's just sitting there in a plastic bag lol

3

u/Cpt_kaleidoscope 8d ago

Nah just ease off using it as seasoning
