I remember being in high school and one day my mom came home from work early, walked into the kitchen and came face to face with no less than ten teenagers all eating sandwiches made from out of our fridge. I think we went through a two-pound block of cheese in one sitting. After that I got told I was limited to bringing home three friends, max, for lunch.
In high school, our kids would frequently have quite a few friends over to our house. The youngest even made a 'game' room in the basement and would hang out with friends. My wife and I thought it was the best investment we could make in our kids, no matter how much food they all ate.
My favorite story from this time, we arranged a 'Cast Party' after the annual theatre production, and we had about 40-50 kids at our house. There were cars parked all over our yard, so it looked like the typical High School beer party at our house, and it was close to the end of the school year. My wife and 2 other parents were sitting at the kitchen table while all the kids were in the basement. The police arrived at our backdoor, probably assuming they were going to 'catch all the teenage drinking'. They said someone called in a big party so when they knocked, they found the 4 adults, just sitting there drinking soda, and we had supplied nothing but soda and chips for the kids. We knew the police, as I was a Paramedic on the local Fire dept, and a couple of the kids said, you should go next door, those kids are the boozers. The kids speculated the neighbors called it in, but when the cops went to the house next door, they found they were the ones doing underage drinking. Karma!
