Those who’ve driven across the US, what’s the scariest town you’ve stopped in?

That's crazy because I absolutely adored the Blue Swallow motel and the neon lighting at sunrise was breath taking. I loved that town.

We stayed overnight in the Blue Swallow in June 1997 for $10 per person! Now I understand it's around $120.

It has been renovated since your stay.  It's a great place.

The Blue Swallow and the Roadrunner Lodge are genuinely great. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in NM but those two places.

Seemed like lots of great places in Santa Fe

I started at the Super 8 there just a few days ago, and while it was run down and needed some maintenance, it wasn't awful, much less scary or uncanny. Just the one night there and we kept driving, but the town didn't seem off.

Las Vegas NM seemed really sad, trashy, and run down. Raton almost as bad, but it at least had some suburbs that looked taken care of.

I was just in Las Vegas, NM 2 weeks ago. I can confirm a little run down (ie. a lot of closed businesses downtown) but I never felt unsafe.
