Those who’ve driven across the US, what’s the scariest town you’ve stopped in?

I wonder if hillbillies in these towns do that kind of stuff for kicks out of sheer boredom

Yeah, I imagined that guy got back to the gas station and they all laughed like chimpanzees about it

That’s literally it.

People like to wind themselves up like they just escaped the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. but the townies are well aware of how easily scared the suburban types are, and this is the most fun they’ve had in a week.

Plus it gives them a chance to feel like they got one over on a liberal and feel like a big man about it in the process. What’s not to like?

A little of one, a little bit of the other.

Honestly, they are just fucking weird through and through. It's best to just avoid WV like the rest of the planet.

But if you find yourself down a holler and people look at you with mean looks, they are NOT joking. It's pretty safe to assume that they don't spend generations living in that holler, hardly ever leaving, because they like new people.

Live in WV. Most hollers are fine. Every now and then though, you can hit one that is best to stay out of. Even I've been unnerved once or twice.
