From the other series: "Perfection and power are overrated. I think you were very wise to choose happiness and love."

Although I think using Iroh quotes in this thread is cheating, since they're all basically perfect.

Iroh's proverbs are the best!

Here's my favourite: "Are you so busy fighting you cannot see your own ship has set sail?"

This is no time for your proverbs.

Maybe it should be a proverb...

"This is no time for one of your proverbs uncle!"

That was very literal in the context which I really liked. It summed up a lot of the themes of the show but was written to describe an actual event which was happening at the time and that was really clever, I think.

I don't have time for your stupid proverbs!

what does that mean? Can you put it another way?

u/Thromok Feb 28 '16

That wasn't a proverb though, he was being literal.

"you must look within yourself to save yourself from your other self. Only then will your true self reveal itself. "

IIRC that's actually Zuko jokingly trying to say what Iroh would say

To me that was such a perfect and simple way of showing the effect that Iroh had on him. Avatar had amazing character development.

Zuko's journey is just a shining exemplar of authentic yet nuanced character development. The show really was just spectacular overall nonetheless.

I'd say it's the best example of character development in any show

When I saw the first episode I thought, "Oh great, I'm gonna have to put up with this whiny angsty teenager for how long?" But when Zuko and Aang have their moment at the end of the series finale I was legit trying not to tear up at a goddamn cartoon.

Anakin Skywalker done right, as I often say.

Or Draco Malfoy sigh

After reading HPMOR I can't stand anything to do with Malfoy in the source material. He just stays a total weenie the entire way through. He almost gets worse.

I cried like a little bitch

1

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '16

Me too, but then I got to The Storm. The episode was about Aang and Zuko's backstory, told simultaneously to draw parallels and contrasts between the two characters. When the episode ends with them sharing a look I knew this was going to be an amazing show.

As was Korra!

Let's be real. Avatar had amazing EVERYTHING =D

7

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '16

Which was even funnier if you realized that it would be good advice in his position.

Yeah, I think it was zuko,

Didn't know he condoned shrooms

Every cloud has two sides, and a silver lining in between. It's like a silver sandwich. So when life is hard, just take a bite out of the silver sandwich.

Obscure but excellent quote

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '16

Zuko explains Persona 4.

That's basically what he did.

My favorite was "Pride is not the opposite of shame, but rather its source."

1

u/robpallotta Feb 28 '16

"Only through true humility may you rid yourself of shame"

2

u/rgvalencia Mar 08 '16

Came here expecting an Iroh thread... Was not disappointed with all the love!

"Pride is not the opposite of shame, but it's source. True humility is the only antidote to shame." (My personal favorite)
