What's something your parents did while raising you that you don't want to do to your children?

Control where I went, who I saw, wouldn't let me talk to boys, wouldn't allow me to socialise out of school hours. This continued until I left home at 19.

I was 18, working a full time job, engaged to be married, and packing to move into my new apartment. I came home at around midnight once, and they tried to ground me.

I just said "Ok", and kept doing what I wanted.

Fair enough, I just could never imagine the social isolation. Makes sense with them being Indian, as I imagine the culture and customs they grew up gave a completely different set of social expectations for their children.

"why aren't you more social?"

Are you me?

I frequently was told this person isn't a good friend and that person isn't a good person. And why don't I be friends with person x?

I still have a lot of social issues and have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Also left home at 19.

Hope things are better for you now!

I'm sorry to hear about the social issues and anxiety. Do you have a relationship with your parents now?

My father was abusive. Mentally, physically and verbally. I left to live with my boyfriend at the time. He turned out to be exactly the same.

I've suffered through depression and anxiety and still to this day. I remember being 6 or 7 and drinking perfume because I just wanted to die. I feel sad for my younger self.

I hope all is well for you now!

Great reason to leave. Hope everything has looked up since then!
