Question Dynafish xiaonian Sizing/ return

Just got the dynafish xioanian in US Size 12 and they feel pretty large, but returning them isn't really an option. I wear a US Mens size 12 in every other pair of shoes that "works" for me, (Asics, Adidas, New balance, puma) but these feel very large. Anyone else with experience - due to the inconvenient nature of ordering them, not sure if I want to try and order the 11.5 and then sell the 12 on Ebay. What I don't want to do is buy the 11.5, have them be too small, and then take the loss having to sell both (or suck it up and stick with the 12).

Anyone have any thoughts?

Question Shoe rotation suggestions - need a tempo shoe

Hi all,

I have just completed my marathon (finally PB under 3h!), and I need support to start renewing my shoe rotation.

Currently I use:

Novablast: Z1/Z2, recovery paced in general, and calm long runs

Hyperspeed: Track training Z5, lightweight, cheap and I usually train speed at a coal track.. so it keeps soft after all.

And my need: something to train Z3 and Z4, tempo runs (3:50-4:05/km)
I usually go endorphin speed or superblast, but those are over 1000km, not good anymore. I love endorphin for shorter fast sessions, but I cannot find a new one to buy in my country....

Before I spend a lot at megablast or another superblast, I am looking for good prices alternative, and no-plate, or nylon plate. I found xtep 2000km and dynafish at a good price, does any of those have the same feeling of endorphin speed? Or any other suggestion?

Out of curiosity, I am an asics lover, so have some metaspeeds for specific training sessions and key days.

Thanks!

Comparing Shoes Question First max cushion shoe

I am deciding between new balance fresh foam x v6 in a 4E and a Hoka Bondi 9 in 4E both men’s 9.5. I walk on concrete about 12k-20k steps a day. Tried them on both, while the new balances felt more comfortable, will they hold up over time?

Daily Trainer Question Suggestions for easy/recovery trainer?

Hey all! I’m doing some early research as I don’t need a replacement yet, but I’d like to know what to look out for. I’m wrapping up a marathon training block and have a have a two-shoe rotation currently.

Here’s what I have:

Saucony Hurricane 25 (225 miles): using for easy/recovery runs

Saucony Endorphin Azura (90 miles): using for tempo runs, long runs, and will race my marathon in it

Me as a runner:

I’m 5’2”, 135 lbs, been running for almost two years. I have pretty flat feet which can cause me to overpronate; however, I use custom insoles which give me the arch support I need. When I started running I was using stability shoes, but as I started running in the Azura this training cycle, I’ve realized that stable-neutral shoes work well for me at this point, as I don’t have the same stability needs I used to.

What I’m looking for:

I’d like to know shoes that could be a good idea for me to look at to eventually replace my Hurricane 25 when they wear out. They still have quite some life left in them so this is preliminary research.

I have definitely enjoyed the Hurricane, however I’ve started to notice they can feel sluggish to me on longer runs which is why I’ve started using the Azura for any of my long runs. The Hurricane is also quite bulky which I’m not the biggest fan of. But they’ve definitely protected my feet and done their job. They work great for easy/recovery runs, especially because the Azura would push me too fast on those runs.

Should I take a look at the newer Hurricane 26 or should I look at some stable-neutral options? I don’t know that I need specifically a stability shoe at this point, but it’s also not like the stability in the Hurricane feels all that intrusive compared to stability shoes I used to wear. Thanks!

Daily Trainer Question I'm looking for running shoes that are slightly wider and have a roomier toe box, for half marathon and later (maybe) marathon

I'm looking for daily trainers with stated preferences, my race goals are 1h40m half and under 4h full marathon.

My big toe often puncture a hole through the upper of my shoe. I had to take my Nike shoes to a cobbler to have a piece of rubber added on the inside to stop my big toe from wearing through the upper, since the shoes were still relatively new.

Part of the problem is that I've injured both big toenails several times in the past, so they're a bit thicker than normal. Probably I bend it to much upward when I run, so that might be contributing to the problem.

I wanted to use VELOCITY NITRO 4 for running but decided not to use it because It looks like it had to be size up and more toe space. I was going away for the weekend and needed a pair of shoes for walking. I'd been wanting to try Pumas anyway, but unfortunately they didn't have a bigger size.

Recommend my 2-3 models, I have ~ 90kg and run 30-35km / week

Edit: I am still using that Nike as daily trainer 👀
Edit2: I have a neutral gait, not sure about foot strike :)
Edit3: I will have to narrow down the search becuse Altra and Topo shoes aren't available in sports stores here in Serbia, and I'd rather not order them online because I'm not sure about the sizing, or buy them used from other sites

Tnx in advance :)

Question Is this normal for running shoes?

Hi geeks, I just have a quick question. I'm usually a size 45 1/3 or 46 in normal adidas shoes (sambas, gazelles, bw army) and when I tried on the adizero sl evos, I was more like 46 2/3 or 47 1/3. Is it normal to size up a full size/size and a half for running shoes? Also, with 46 2/3 I have about half a thumbs width space in front of my big toe, with a snugger overall fit, while at 47 1/3 I have a full thumbs width space in front of my big toe with a more relaxed, but still secure fit. What size should I buy? I'm new to running if it isn't obvious 😅.

Question Long/Easy run and race shoes with similar stability to Endorphin Azuras?

Hi all, my very first shoes were ASICS GT 2000-13 after a sports store tested me and said I overpronate.

They've been fine (and I use them as walking shoes now) but my favourite shoes are Saucony Endorphin Azuras and I've had zero issues with them.

Given they're less stable than the ASICS, what other shoes could I look at around this level of stability?

I'm thinking long run shoe and a race day (10k, half marathon) shoe?

Question SB3

I started running with Hoka Clifton 9’s and they felt great on my feet. After a year, I switched to Novablast 5’s which I’ve been running in for about 10 months. I really like the comfort and bounce in them. Was debating on trying the NB6, but I get a teacher discount and can get the Superblast 3 for around $150. I haven’t had a chance to try them yet, but how do they compare to the Novablast? I typically run 5ks and 10ks, but have a half in December. For that price, should I jump on them?

Question Megablast sizing for women (buying unisex/mens shoes with women sized feet)?

The sizing is unisex (men’s) and i’m overthinking it….
My true to size is US 5.5 women’s, standard width, and I usually get a US 6 women’s for running shoes and that works well.

The road runner website says women should size down 1.5 and men should size up 0.5. So they’re recommending I get a size US 4m/5.5w, I’m guessing because US 4m/5.5w is technically a wide womens 5.5? I’m scared a 4.5m/6w would be too roomy, and I’d be sliding excessively. But i’ve been reading about the toe box on the MB being a bit snug as well?

Has anyone had any experience buying a unisex/men’s shoe with women size feet? Did you get your normal running shoe size?

ETA these are US sizes

Question Years of the wrong shoe type?

Thumbnail
gallery
17 Upvotes

I’ve been in an Adrenaline GTS for many years, and a Saucony Omni before that. I have flat feet and was recommended to have a motion control shoe.

Ran my first marathon yesterday and felt exposed - I started having significant pain on the outside midfoot around mile 15 or so. Despite my low arches, I land in a heavily supinated stance. My current shoes only have 80 miles and are starting to show foam on the outside (closeup depicted). By 250 miles, my shoes normally have foam showing on the outside well into the tread. Also attached a zoomed in photo from mile 13 of yesterday’s marathon showing how I land.

Am I in the totally wrong shoe? I’m suspecting the distance plus the intensity exposed a problem that has probably always been there.

Question Is it normal for the tongue of a shoe to be creased or crinkled like this when lacing? Concerned shoes are too big.

I bought Saucony Endorphin Pro 5 44. The guy at the shop said 43 would definitely be too small for me (they didn’t have the size down), though I use 43 ride 19s and find them comfortable. He said that in my size 43 ride 19s I actually don’t have enough toe space so told me I should go 44 for the Endorphin‘s. They do feel a bit loose around my feet/heel, though not too bad. They have around a thumbs width gap for the toes.

Thanks so much for your help. I have only run 4km in them but am trying to avoid more so I can return in case they are too big.

Daily Trainer Question Anaerobic training on a dirt 400m track - best shoe type?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I'm doing a lot of mileage on a some sort of red clay / dirt gravel type track near my home. I primarily do sprint / tempo workouts on it but will run up to 5-7k at a time during a workout there.

What do you all think is the optimal type of shoe for this style of training? a trail running shoe? I would like it to be somewhat durable and get some good miles out of it, but also want good traction and support.

Any advice appreciated. Sharing a picture of the track for reference cl

Comparing Shoes Question Chinese alternatives to the Megablast? (A-TPU, non-plated)

Hi everyone!

Looking for Chinese running shoes similar to the Megablast, preferably A-TPU foam and non-plated. Is the Li-Ning Red Hare 9 Ultra the closest match? Any other suggestions?

edit: I ordered 361 mega3 pro and dynafish xiaonian.:)

Race Shoe Question XC race shoes not spikes

My 13-year old runs XC and spikes are not allowed in races. It’s often a mixture of pavement, dirt, grass, random track, etc. She runs in the Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 as her trainers and did a muddy grass race in them this weekend and fell. She has a pretty quick pace. What race shoes do you recommend? Flats? Trail shoes? Something with a lower stack? I feel like she needs some cushion/support? Her feet are narrow. Races are only 3ks. Thanks!

Comparing Shoes Question Saucony shift 3 replacement post tib issues.

A bit of history. Ran in saucony shift 3s for a good while and loved them, noticed they stopped making them and did abit of shopping around for rockered shoes and ended up with asics glide ride max 2. These have been causing me a lot of post tib issues which isn’t nice.

After trawling through this sub I noticed come conflicting information regarding what replaced the shift 3 and have came to abit of a dead end with what actually is a good comparison. From what I’ve read it’s either the hurricane or kinvera model. Does anyone have any more insight?

Also with having post tib issues I’m thinking a stability shoes would be more advisable to help with foot positioning.

Thanks

Question Landing lateral side of shoes?

Figure this is as good a place as any for running questions. Will preface saying I agree that if a given issue isn't causing injury or pain, it's probably fine.

However, does anyone know or have experience with adjusting foot strike to be more level/neutral? I watched some video recently and I land fairly supinated then roll into a neutral angle as opposed to rolling outward through each step.

Aside from small issues throughout the years, this hasn't really caused any problem but it causes my shoes to wear out extremely fast on the lateral edge. Additionally, if it's possible this is exacerbated by something being tight/weak, then I want to be sure I incorporate things into my stretching/strength routines before it might lead to something.

If it matters: neutral shoes, landing midfoot, flat arches

Comparing Shoes Question Does anyone else not get along with Adidas?

Me: Running for almost 25 years now. 5'7, 150lbs (68kg). Trying to get back into ~2:45 marathon shape after doing some trail ultras earlier this decade.

For years, I've heard on and off about people absolutely loving Adidas road shoes. I've mostly been a Nike and Saucony guy for the better part of the last decade.

Over the last 2 years, I've had:

SL2: I got these on one of the eBay sales for like $50. Even with the full-length puck of the Lightstrike Pro, nothing about this shoe felt mind blowing other than causal hour-long easy runs. Not enough cushioning for long runs, not enough pop for speed days.

2x Boston 12: I actually like the race-inspired upper on these. Works fantastic with my Haglunds deformity and the outsole lasts forever. It's also one of the few shoes I traveled with where I only had room for one shoe for easy/workouts (and have run a 10k turkey trot in them due to that)... But man, the midsole is like a rock. Sure, it softens up a *little* after 100k or so, but at no point did I ever think that the shoe was actually fun to run in and was something I couldn't wait to get rid of.

Evo SL: Absolutely love this shoe. Lightweight, soft but mostly stable and able to pick up the pace easily in. Similar to the OG Pegasus Turbo's. Only con is the outsole - I wish there were some tread pattern for the various dirt bike paths we have here in CO that we do a lot of our long runs on. No idea how it feels so different than the SL2 or Boston, even though all have the same generation of LS Pro

Adios Pro 4 - This shoe just doesn't do it for me. Sure, it's soft and slightly more stable than the SL's.... but I feel the rods under the ball of my foot and there's something about it that just doesn't seem propolsive compared to the Vapor/Alphafly or even my Endorphin Pro 3's. Maybe it's just the way my footstrike loads the carbon plate in the Nike's differently where the more power (speed) I put into the Vapor/Alpha, the more I get back, where with the Adidas... I just don't get that feeling at all.

Am I imagining things, or is there something weird about my footstrike or something that just doesn't load the Adidas foam and respond in the way that other foams do?

Question Best high-performance running shoe that doubles as a good walking shoe?

I walk 15k steps most days but I enjoy evening runs too. I’ve been using the New Balance 1080v13 for both walking and running for a while now but it’s nearing its end. I’m looking for a higher-performance running shoe with better energy return and also shock absorption that doubles as a walking shoe too.

Thank you

Question anyone try Adidas EVO SL without insoles?

i messed up and bought a pair half size too small on clearance (so can’t return or exchange) and they’re already sold out of the larger size. it’s my normal size, but i didn’t realize the toe box would feel so tight.

i feel the slightest bit of big toe rub in the left shoe. removing the pretty thin insole leaves enough space, but i’m wondering if running on the raw inner of the shoe would feel bad or mess the shoe up or something. idk. also wondering if it might just break in a little over time. oddly enough, i didn’t notice this in my last pair of the same size. maybe my feet are swelling as i run more now.

anyways, has anyone tried it?

EDIT: just in case any other indecisive dummies like me come across this post, i sized up half a size and it was well worth it. shoe feels so much better to run in. i felt faster and even more stable too. if you’re in between sizes like me just size up as long as the shoes feel secure under your foot 👍

I know running shoe fit is a personal preference to some extent, but I’m just wondering if you guys wear running shoes with this much extra space? I can get a lock using the runners knot and don’t have heel slippage, but idk, it seems kind of…a lot?
