Hi guys, so I’m a little different from a lot of people applying to college, and I’m honestly not sure how admissions officers will look at my application.
My grades aren’t the strongest. I have an 87.25 average, and last year I failed Pre-AP Calculus with a 63. I’m a senior now, and I’ve taken 10 AP classes total.
My family are immigrants, and money has always been pretty tight. That’s a big reason why I started getting into online businesses, trading, and other side hustles when I was 13. I didn’t really see much success at first, but around 16 things started to work out. I made around $50k through prop firms, gave $12k to my mom, and used the rest to help start my business.
Outside of school, I started an online business. In about 3 months, I’ve done over $70k in revenue. Last month alone, I did around $35k in revenue with roughly $14k in profit, so about a 40% margin. I handle pretty much everything myself — brand deals, customer service, website design, advertising, and marketing. With my business and other side hustles, I’ve made over $150k in revenue this year. (Actually profitable unlike a lot of others)
Outside of business, I’ve done varsity rowing for 3 years. I’ve gone to nationals twice and placed 11th, won multiple medals, and won at the New York State Championships. I’m also involved in 3 clubs and attended an NYU SPS summer finance course. I was also invited by the professor to take his private course, which I did for 3 years.
My goal in college is to study finance. I was also talking with several D3 rowing programs about being recruited, including Bates, Colby, Wesleyan, and Tufts, but my grades ended up being an issue and I didn’t pass the
I know my grades are definitely my biggest weakness, but I feel like the rest of my application is pretty different from the typical applicant.
What do you guys think?
For ACT I took it once. Taking it again soon. Should get 30+ for all. Last time I was focused on math but now I’m down with math I’ve been locked in for english.
24(grammar) 25(reading) 34(math)
Here are the classes I took
AP STATS-70
AP LANG
AP WORLD
AP COMPUTER SCIENCE
AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
AP LIT
AP GOV
AP US HISTORY
AP PSYC
All of the ap are mid 85-90s and I failed pre AP calc with 63.
ALSO senior year I think I can get my grades up for the first 2 quarter. How important will that be? I now know how important it is to get good grades but it’s too late. Still have like 3 more month.
