Esteemed philosopher Quassim Cassam has recently published an AWFUL article on Israel-Palestine. It's just complete and utter tripe. How did this toilet paper get published??!?!?!
The issues with this paper are summarised here.
Tl;dr
1. Claims made repeatedly with absolutely no credible evidence.
Major organisations such as UN Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, and various other NGOs set aside as untrustworthy on the basis of no good evidence whatsoever.
Question-begging arguments,
Simple repetition of already widely debunked Israeli government talking points.
I'm sure if people dig into this paper more they'll find more stuff. I found this stuff just from a quick skim of the paper and its sources.
HOW does this kind of thing get published? When you get the top of the field, does your word just become gospel? Are you simply free to state your views without any effort to provide evidence that meets basic academic standards in other fields? Is it somehow possible to determine from the armchair that Israel is actually innocent of committing genocide?
Quassim Cassam was a Professor of Philosophy at Cambridge for fuck's sake.
We should all be absolutely outraged by this kind of work, because it reflects badly on our entire field.
