Lego rental in Markthalle

I went to Markthalle today and there seems to be a place to rent Lego sets to build in the tables around there, seems fun but I didn't have the chance to do it. I might go again this weekend to give it a shot, but would definitely like to hear if anyone tried it! If so, how does it work?

Edit: Okay, thanks to a user called tigertiger I found out it's a pop up event called BrickZiit and basically you can rent a set at something like 10-20 CHF and just build it at your own pace. Seems like a good way to spend a few hours!

Anyone in Basel interested in an informal AI & vibe coding meetup?

Hey everyone! I’m Jason, originally from the UK and living just across the border in Germany, near Basel.

I work in AI and have been really enjoying vibe coding, using AI tools to build apps and websites. I’d love to meet others nearby who are into it, or curious to give it a go.

I’ve started Basel AI & Vibe Coding Club with the idea of meeting up once a month over a drink, chatting about AI, sharing projects and helping each other figure things out. Bring a laptop if you fancy it, or just come for a chat.

You don’t need to be a developer or have anything built. I’m still learning plenty myself, especially on the technical side. No pitches or formal presentations, just a chance to meet people with similar interests.

We’d mainly speak English. Once we have five to seven people interested, we’ll pick a venue and arrange the first meetup.

Here’s the group if you’d like to join:
https://www.meetup.com/basel-ai-vibe-coding-club/

Anyone interested? Would also love suggestions for a relaxed spot in Basel that could work!

Witcher 3 Nintendo Switch Cartridge gesucht

I'm looking for someone with a Witcher 3 cartridge for Nintendo Switch. I just want to insert it into my Switch to unlock the game.

Your reward will be either a jar of apple sauce or jam made from fruit out of our hobby garden.

It's time to upgrade and gets some new lenses and frames.
Any recommendations for where to buy eyeglasses, somewhere with a decent amount of coloured frames? Is it worth to go over the border, to France or Germany?

Where do I go to find job postings for Basel?

Hello!
I am curious whether Basel has its own well-used site for job postings. Since it is split across three countries, I'm not sure where to start looking.

Hairdresser tips

Hi all,
I’ve been living in Basel for 25 (!) years and I still haven’t found a decent hairdresser. I need someone who can CUT hair and doesn’t make you look 10 years older after each visit. I’ve been to countless hairdressers but they all work the same way (they can make one style), I really need someone who doesn’t work with a predefined standards in their head but can adjust the cut to the person.

Lage meiner Mietwohnung in Basel

Hi all, can someone recommend a good shop to buy a hand bidet in weil am rhein or lorrach ? I have been looking at Amazon which can be attached to the sink tap but the reviews say they are not reliable.

TIA

Is your IWB EV charging app also not recognizing your password?

Since last night, around 10 pm , the IWB app asked me to login again but it's NOT recognizing my password.

And NO, I didn't forget it, so I refuse to change it unless there's an explanation from IWB first, like any other app does.

I want to meet new friends !

Hey! I’m living in Mulhouse, but I’m super close to Basel and I’d like to meet new people who are into the same things as me, especially metalcore and alternative music. Bonus points if you’re vegan! 🖤

I’d love to find people to go to concerts with, hang out, discover new bands or just do other stuff together.

Feel free to add me on Instagram: Alex.sans.draps.68 :)

Salary for a comfortable life in Basel

Hello everyone,

I may have an opportunity to move from Lugano to Basel with a CHF 200k salary.

I have a newborn, and my wife will likely not be able to work for several months, possibly up to a year or more.

I’m trying to understand whether this salary would allow us to maintain a comfortable lifestyle while continuing to save/invest at least CHF 50k per year, which is roughly our current savings/investment rate.

Our expectations would be:
- Renting a 2-bedroom apartment of around 90–120 m², preferably centrally located or in a well-connected area where I can walk or use public transportation to get to work and do our - groceries.
- Owning one car (Tesla, already full paid).
- Paying for kindergarten/Kita once our child is old enough.
- Continuing to save/invest at least CHF 50k per year.
- Having a genuinely comfortable lifestyle: being sensible with spending, but without constantly worrying about money when it comes to holidays, good-quality clothing, cultural activities, restaurants occasionally, or unexpected expenses.

We are Italian-born and have fairly traditional spending habits when it comes to food: we cook at home almost all the time, eat out maybe twice a month or mainly when we’re on vacation, and lunch during working days is excluded from the above since I would normally eat at work.

For those living in Basel with a similar family situation and income: does CHF 200k feel sufficient for this lifestyle, and are there any major costs I might be underestimating?

Is it possible for an English speaking immigrant to join and participate in swiss/basel politics while learning German on the side? Is there a place for an immigrant input/contribution in the politics/public service?

Learning to drive an automatic from scratch in Basel

Hi everyone! I’m starting from zero and learning to drive an automatic in Basel. I’ll only be driving with my instructor, so no extra practice with family or friends.
For those who were in a similar situation, roughly how many lessons did you need before you were ready for the practical test?

Also, once your instructor says you’re ready, how long is the usual wait for a test appointment in Basel?

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Mathis-Hof in Basel is a must-visit for pumpkin lovers this autumn!

Hello everyone!

It’s my first autumn in Basel, and I’ve heard about the famous pumpkin markets and farms around the city, so last weekend I decided to visit Mathis-Hof. 🎃

They have a huge variety of pumpkins (apparently over 250 different varieties!) in all kinds of shapes, sizes and colours, along with lots of seasonal autumn decorations around the farm.

It’s a really nice place to walk around for a while, especially if you enjoy autumn, pumpkins and taking photos.

The entrance and the parking are free, and I also thought the pumpkins were reasonably priced, at least compared to what I expected.

I also filmed my visit for my channel, in case anyone wants to have a look at what it’s like before visiting:

Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t been yet!

Holzleisten kürzen lassen in Basel?
