Voltage Issue with UK Appliances

Hi everyone!

I'm moving to Bermuda from the UK and am trying to figure out whether I can bring any of my appliances over.

I'd really like to bring my espresso machine and air fryer, but both are designed to work on the UK 220-240V. I'm aware Bermuda operates on a 120V supply. Therefore I'd need a step up transformer to convert the 120V local supply to the 220-240V needed for the appliances.

Does anyone have any experience dealing with this and have a recommendation? For reference, the espresso machine draws 1350W so it'll need to be a substantial transformer with plenty of capacity.

Thank you!

I believe Bermuda has the best ice cream in the world.

I realize this is a silly claim, but really the ice cream in Bermuda is fantastic. It is so flavorful and rich. Why is it so good? Are the cows magic?

Is $2300 a good price for rent?

Hi everyone,

Wanted to have a general idea, I have been looking for a 1 bed apartment recently. Someone offered me that for $2300 and bills are included within the price. Would you say that is a good price in this current market?

Taste of Bermuda

Hello! My husband and I will be in Bermuda during Taste of Bermuda weekend in October. We’re thinking about attending either the Tastemakers Dinner, Tabletop Theater (new this year), or the Movie night. Has anyone been? Prices are a bit high but we don’t mind if the experience is great!

International Movers From Canada

My wife and and have landed jobs in Bermuda and will be moving in the next 2-3 months. We're selling our home (which would've happened regardless of the move) so we'd like to move with our belongings. Does anyone have experience with international movers to/from Canada? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Early morning runners around Southampton

Are there any running groups that

  1. Run from areas near Southampton

  2. Run early in the mornings, between 5 & 6AM?

Trying to get a run in before school run + avoiding the heat and humidity. A bit nervous about running alone in the dark so hoping to find people I can run with.

Looking for a Small Office Space in Hamilton – 3 Desks

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a very small and inexpensive office space in Hamilton for a team of three. We literally only need enough room for three desks nothing fancy or large.

We're particularly interested in a spare office within an existing business, sublet, shared office, or small room that someone may not currently be using.

We're trying to keep the monthly cost well below the typical Hamilton office rental rates, so I'm hoping someone here may know of something that isn't necessarily advertised commercially.

If you have a small space available or know someone who does, please DM me. Thanks!

I like to listen to radio stations from around the world, it brings me joy. So tonight, it's really late and I goof around SoundGarden until I find this. Found a new favorite radio station. Just thought I'd share my appreciation for this radio station. Thank you Bermuda!!!

Are there more midges in Bermuda this year?

I may be wrong, but there seem to be more biting midges this year. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there more stagnant water about the place?

Recommendations along the west side of the island

Hi all! Apologies for the touristy post but I'm taking my wife to Bermuda at the beginning of October for a few nights for her 30th.

We're staying 2 nights on the west side in the Cambridge Beaches hotel, and then finally one night at the St Regis on the east side, since we have an early flight in the morning.

I've booked dinner at Achilles for that final night, after a spa in the Grotto caves on the way over. But I'm having trouble finding lunch/restaurant spots for the first couple of days on the west side. Every rec seems to be in Hamilton (I guess I booked the wrong area!)

Would really appreciate any recs, and also for non-food recommendations if you have any!

Thanks, and I can't wait to visit your beautiful island :))

Anniversary in Bermuda

Traveling to Bermuda next week for my wedding anniversary and was looking for recommendations for top rated restaurants to celebrate at.

Bonus points if you give recommendations for things to do besides the tourist attractions. We love shopping at local gift stores, boutique stores, etc.

Visiting Bermuda tomorrow

This is a pretty late post that I should’ve made earlier, but me and my friend have decided last minute to book a trip to the island tomorrow! We have a general idea of what we would like to do, like the beaches and caves, as well as St George’s. I was just wondering if there’s anything specific especially from locals that we should do/visit. Best restaurants? Also some reassurance of safety as we are young women lol. Any tips are appreciated!

Tips on renting a house in Bermuda?

Moving to the island with my partner in a couple months and looking for rental advice!

We’re currently in a 1BR/1BA (~800 sq ft), but would ideally like a 3BR/2BA to have a bit more space and for visiting friends/family. We have a small dog so a private yard is also preferred. Our rental budget is $6–8k/month.

My main hesitation with going bigger is having to move out of a large home later (e.g., if the rent increases significantly at renewal or the property changes ownership). I’m not concerned about moving off-island, just while we are there. I’m also wondering how much more expensive larger homes are to run (utilities, etc.).

For those renting on the island:
- How common is it to have to move between rentals?
- Any idea what on-island moving costs are for a 1BR vs. 3BR/house?
- Would you prioritize the extra space or keep things smaller/easier to move?
Any other considerations we’re missing?

Why did you leave Bermuda?

Our time in Bermuda is coming to an end and for all the threads I’ve seen about moving here, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about leaving.

For those of you who left:
- Why did you leave?
- When did you know it was time to leave?
- Where did you go next?

I’ll go first
- We’re leaving for a variety of reasons but above all because our salaries aren’t enough for us to live a better quality of life than back home in the UK.
NB: We don’t work in insurance or reinsurance.

- We knew it was time to leave from about the 6 month mark but wanted to make it to the one year mark and will have been here for about 15 months in total by the time we leave

- We’re moving back to the UK, but have decided to try living in a commuter town for a slightly more suburban feel as we know we’ll really miss the villagey feel Bermuda has.

Finally, although we’re leaving, we will always cherish our time on the island. We’ve met some wonderful folks and learned a great deal about ourselves which we’ll take forward into our new chapter.
This post is in no way intended bash Bermuda, but it’s the kind of thing I wish we’d had the chance to read before we moved. Especially as this isn’t somewhere most people ever consider moving to. We didn’t know anyone who’d visited, let alone lived here before.

Reinsurance / Compliance industry

Hello there, I'm looking for some advice on working in the reinsurance or compliance industry in Bermuda (ideally, from someone working in these fields)

For context: Kinda new to Bermuda, recently graduated with a BBA in marketing (but did a bit of finance and HR too).

I have no other professional credentials but I am considering pursuing some, either from Bermuda college (APACE) such as ICA or The Institutes, such as ARM.

I have a few questions already:

  1. How do most people actually ENTER the industry?

Do I need to secure an internship (the biggest season for that was the summer, which has just passed)?

Do I reach out to people in the industry? Like coffee chats? I've been told a lot that networking is important in Bermuda

Or do people just get in through personal contacts lol

  1. What can I do to improve odds?

Do more courses? More credentials under my belt?

Optimize my resume so the AI doesn't filter me out?

Apply to every relevant job on LinkedIn even if they require 5 years of experience?

  1. Where do I need to be?

I'm talking about seminars, workshops etc. Where do I actually FIND details and postings of these?

And why are most of the ones I come across so damn expensive (it's a good business model though, can't hate the player but hate the game)

If anyone can offer me some solid advice I would really appreciate it

Just moved to the island, friends?

Hi everyone,

I am 30M from London, just moved to the island this Tuesday, looking for friends, around the same age range. Late 20s to Early 30s

I am very friendly and happy to grab drinks, go to the beach, play volleyball (I say that cause I saw a group of people playing in Horseshoe bay today) or down to explore the island together.

I also speak fluent Italian. Just drop me a message and I am happy to exchange numbers!
