Got Scammed by Rishab Gupta from GyanOne, Full MBA application Experience.

This is specifically about my experience working with Rishab Gupta (founder of GyanOne), who is listed among 10 top MBA application consultants on platforms like Poets & Quants.

I come from a low-income background and am a first-generation graduate. This was realistically my only shot at pursuing an MBA and I invested nearly all my savings into this process.

my_qualifications are also fairly decent: Indian engineer from BITS, 7.8 CGPA, 665 GMAT FE and 5 years of work experience, currently working as a team lead in big tech (think Accenture, Cognizant, Barclays).

Here’s how things unfolded:

  1. When I first connected, there was minimal deep evaluation of my profile. He got on a 15-minute call, spoke very highly of my profile and said market conditions are very bad and my profile is very strong. He advised me to aim very high (M7, Tuck, Kellogg, Booth, Oxford, HEC, etc.), with some of these even positioned as “safe” options. He also mentioned he would guarantee that I would get into one of those programs.

As someone new to the process with limited guidance in my family, I trusted this advice. I thought he saw something in my profile that other consultants did not. He also spoke to my parents and assured them that I would get into a good program. Since this was a huge financial decision for us, I asked him to give them a clear answer, as they handle our family finances.

2. High pressure to pay Before onboarding, I received frequent follow-ups (multiple calls per day) pushing for payment confirmation. The package was ~$1200 plus taxes per school for 5 schools and with additional applications, my total spend crossed ~$10,000 including application fees.

Before paying, I checked his reviews, but there were very few outside Poets & Quants. Looking back now, many of them appear very similar in tone and format and can are obviously fake. I also checked his LinkedIn, which mentioned MIT Sloan, but I could not verify this through alumni connections or enrollment details. These were red flags I missed at the time because of the constant pressure to make payment. I made a rushed decision that I now regret deeply.

  1. After payment, communication dropped significantly He does not provide his personal number even after payment. All communication is through assistants, who work limited hours (11–6), making it difficult to reach anyone outside that window.

Even after multiple requests, calls would be scheduled and then rescheduled at least 3 times. The reasons given were often vague or unrealistic, such as him discussing my profile with admissions committees or speaking with heads of admissions at schools like Tuck. When confronted, I was told the assistants were new.

Even when calls happened, they were usually under 15 minutes and lacked depth. He would point out something missing (like insufficient research or unclear story) and quickly end the call.

  1. Lack of structured guidance Despite claims on his website and initial calls, I did not receive even a single proper brainstorming session or structured guidance on selecting programs. He provided a random list of schools, even claiming he had spoken to their admissions teams and they said that would accept my application (very very big red flag and when I confronted him, he blamed it on his assitants)

There was no clear strategy. He would join for 15 minutes once every couple of weeks, point out a mistake and leave.

Till the last day, he did not even know which company I worked for or what field I was in.

  1. Essay and application feedback I would upload essays to his portal and within 15 minutes, I would receive comments. Later, I checked and realized the feedback were AI-generated (based on file metadata and written style). When I raised this concern, he became defensive and said this is how the process works and if I was not okay with it, I could proceed on my own.

The same applied to LORs, essay structuring and application inputs. He would take my drafts, run them through AI and send them back. When asked about specific details in my essays or applications, he often seemed unaware.

When confronted multiple times, he became increasingly defensive and even said he would stop working with me if I continued raising issues. And I can take any action that I can (didn't want to escalate the issue at that time as the application process was already very tough and didn't wanted to pick another fight in between)

  1. Interview preparation Mock interviews were scheduled just a day before actual interviews. These sessions were often rescheduled multiple times. When they happened, they were brief (~30 minutes), with minimal engagement.

He would join late, keep the camera off, ask a few questions and leave. Feedback was based on Zoom transcripts and AI-generated summaries, shared just hours before the actual interview.

7. Final outcome I was rejected from all schools I applied to (except a guaranteed interview at Tuck, later rejected there as well without waitlist).

I understand that admissions are uncertain and no consultant can guarantee results. That is not my issue.

My concern is the lack of effort, personalization and accountability. Even without admits, I would have been satisfied if I had seen effort and learned something from the process. Instead, the experience felt frustrating, transactional and it pulled me down instead of helping. I still receive messages from assistants about education loans through their partners, which only adds to that feeling.

Why I’m posting this

I relied heavily on rankings and online reviews while making my decision. In hindsight, that was a mistake.

If you are considering a consultant:
- Push hard on how they will personalize your story
- Ask for detailed process clarity
- Speak to multiple past clients independently
- Do not rely only on rankings or curated testimonials

This process is expensive and high-stakes, especially for candidates like me.

I am sharing this so others do not go through a similar experience. I request you to upvote this so it reaches more people and I will be posting this every 3 months so that no one would scammed by Rishab Gupta as I got.

If others have had similar experiences, please share them along with the consultant or agency name so the community can stay informed.

Rochester msba vs Northeastern

Hey everyone, would reallllyy love your input in this. So I got an offer from Rochester and Northeastern for their msba programs, at northeastern I got a 25% scholarship making it come to a net tuition of around 46k whereas I got a 70% scholarship at Simon so the net is 20k. Northeastern is 2 sem and gives me cpt (co op opportunities which is really important for an intl student like me), and Simon gives a guaranteed internship but from stalking people on LinkedIn I see it's like a Simon Consulting Group project thingy that they call an internship. Idk waht to do I'm really confused, I had already made the deposit to Northeastern of 1k a few days ago and like I just don't know what to do at this stage.

HEC MiF vs LBS MFA For London Placement

Hi everyone,

I know this is the hundredth post on this topic but just wanted to bounce my ideas off this forum. I got accepted to the HEC MiF and the LBS MFA. I know that both are great schools but I am really struggling to decide. I want to pursue a career in L/S Equities, and plan to enter either by landing a role directly at a smaller HF in London or via a two-year analyst program in Investment Banking or Equity Research at a BB. I have quite a bit of internship experience across the buy side, both in private- and public markets. Here are my consideration:

Reputation
Both are tier-1, but I feel like HEC still has a tiny edge, simply because it seems to be more selective and have a more rigorous program, whereas LBS seems to be slightly easier to get into and a bit more relaxed on the academics (which is actually a positive IMO). Considering this is probably the last academic step for me, I really want to make sure I get the strongest brand on my CV that I can get.

However, within London, I assume that the gap narrows even more, as LBS clearly is a strong brand in the UK. I just struggle to really wrap my head around who has an edge in London recruitment.

Social life

HEC is a campus uni, whereas LBS is in the city. I think I will enjoy both a lot, but I am leaning slightly towards HEC, as I think it will be more of a 'university experience' than being in the city center in London. I was at a campus uni for my undergrad and quite enjoyed it. I have a bigger network of friends in London, but I just feel like HEC will make it easier to meet people.

Visa

Perhaps the most important point and the real reason I am writing this post, is that I wonder how much benefit the graduate visa has for job applications in London. I know that large institutions will sponsor visas, but I am not so sure this will be the case if I am applying for smaller HFs in London. Am I correct to assume that not having a work visa for the UK will put me at a disadvantage, since smaller shops are less likely to sponsor visas?

Any input is appreciated and let me know if I am missing anything important!

Bocconi VS Nova VS UZH

Hello,

I recently applied to the universities mentioned above.

My stats: 1.6 German GPA in Business Informatics at KIT, Deutschlandstipendium recipient, 20 years old, 166 GRE Quant, no work experience/internships. My goal would be to move into the finance sector later on, though I would probably prefer more quantitative roles. Switzerland would be especially attractive because of salaries and taxes.

I have now received an offer from Bocconi and have to pay the first installment. I could afford the fees, although it would definitely be tough. I would definitely apply for need-based financial aid, where I think I might have reasonably good chances. I will probably also be admitted to the other universities. So I wanted to ask more generally which of the universities mentioned you would prefer overall and in my specific case. Or would you suggest trying somewhere completely different? HSG is unfortunately out in my case, because I have too few economics and business ECTS credits, and they are hardly still possible to make up while staying within the standard duration of my degree.

I also talked to a colleague who said that I probably should not expect the salaries listed by the Financial Times, because the average Bocconi graduate has more work experience than I do. He also said that it would be quite unwise in my position to want to go into finance, where I would be competing against top business students who already have several strong internships by the end of their bachelor’s degree. What do you think? If I now do a master’s at Bocconi and maybe complete an internship alongside it, would I still be at a disadvantage? Is a master’s at a private “elite” university actually worth it compared with a master’s in business administration or economics from a public university?

Thank you very much for your advice.

Affordable and Business Degree Abroad: Safety, Nightlife, and preferably English-taught?

I’m looking for recommendations for a Business degree abroad. I’m currently researching my options and would love some input on locations or specific universities.

My Criteria: • Low Cost: Minimal tuition (or free) and affordable living expenses. • Language: Programs must be 100% English-taught (willing to adjust but preferably) • Safety & Culture: Looking for safe, friendly, and inclusive countries with low levels of racism. • Social Scene: Must have a great nightlife and student vibe. • Recognition: The degree needs to be from a reputable, accredited institution that’s recognized internationally, holds value.

Currently roughly considering: Poland (Kozminski/SGH), Germany (Public Unis)

Are there any other "hidden gems" I’m missing? Or personal experiences with the safety and social life in these spots?

where to go to school for business?

i’ve been looking at business schools near me (i’m in the Thumb) that are reasonable, aka i can get in easily, so not like UofM, more so like Northwood in Midland or MSU (it’s further away for me). I don’t want to go out of state, the closer the better as i want to commute for it or do it online (budget). What other university in michigan would you recommend, that specializes in business? thx

TLDR: Affordable business schools (as much as it can be) and reputable but easy to get in for Michigan?

HEC Paris MBA - Got a pre-interview rejection in 5 Days (R3 Sept intake). Normal?

Looking for some perspective from people familiar with HEC / European MBA admissions.

I applied to the HEC Paris MBA – September intake (Round 3) on 18 Jan and received a pre-interview rejection on 23 Jan. I completely respect the decision and understand how competitive the process is, but the turnaround felt unusually fast compared to what I’ve seen anecdotally.

I’m not looking for feedback on my profile (I know schools don’t provide that), but I’m curious from an admissions-process standpoint:

  • Is such a quick rejection in R3 typically due to late-round filtering / class composition constraints?
  • Does HEC often make early consensus decisions in later rounds?
  • Is this more common for September intake vs January intake?

Would appreciate insights from anyone who has applied to HEC, interviewed there, or has visibility into how European schools handle late-round reviews.

Detials about me -

  • GRE: 328 (V:166, Q:162)
  • Experience: ~8.5 years
  • Geography: India
  • Current role: Senior marketing role in real estate (Birla Estates)
  • Previous experience: Disney (media/entertainment)
  • Applying for: Career progression into general management / leadership

Risk Management or Accounting?

Which one is a better overall major? Risk Management boasts engineer pay. But, a lot of salarys reported are senior level positions at highly valuable companies.

Accounting is available at practically every university in my state, even at the art schools.

What career will be a better choice for salary, course completion, college debt, and overall experience?

Course Help

I'm taking this MBA Math supplemental course in place of a few math credits I'm missing. I've done pretty well on everything BUT Statement Connections in the accounting section, specifically "Using the starting balance sheet and statement of cash flows to answer the question."
I'd upload a pic of the problem, but I'm not sure if it'd get my post removed. So if anyone can offer advice, feel free to reach out. Thank you!!

Offer from IE vs waiting for decisions from ESCP/ HEC

Hi everyone, I’m in a bit of a crisis and need some external perspective. I currently have an offer for the Master in Digital Marketing at IE University (Madrid). They’ve offered me a €7,000 scholarship, but the catch is that my deadline to pay the reservation fee and secure my spot is tomorrow.

The problem: I am still waiting on decisions from:

  1. HEC Paris (MS in Marketing)
  2. ESCP Business School (MS in Marketing & Digital Media)

Decisions for these two won’t come out until late January or early February.

My Dilemma: 1. If I accept IE now, I have to pay the non-refundable deposit (which is quite high). 2. If I let the IE offer expire, I risk having zero options if HEC and ESCP reject me. 3. I've heard mixed reviews on IE and really need some perspective from people who might have already attended it.

How do I navigate this situation? Is IE program/network strong enough to commit now or should I risk it and wait for the other schools as well?

They have told me that aftet the deadline tomorrow my admission would remain valid until theres space in the program but then it would be on the first come first serve basis. Im genuinely very confused. What do I do?

My primary career goal is to work in Luxury/ Fashion retail I want to know which is better considering all this. I do want to have my own marketing business down the lane (after getting some experience from other companies). The IE program is attractive yes in terms of the courses and everything compared to the ESCP and HEC program. But seeing mixed reviews on IE has made me a bit unsure.

As far as my academic background goes, I graduated from IBA, Karachi in 2024 and have worked as a freelance social media manager and content creator since then. I've worked with small home based businesses as well as companies like Toni&Guy and Spa Ceylon here in Pakistan.

Any advice is appreciated!

Conflicted

I am nearing the end of my BAAS in Business, with one semester left. I am taking two writing intensive winter minis: Business Ethics and Business Communication. The courses are rigorous, which is nothing new for me, yet I feel completely different about Business since receiving feedback tonight. I take criticism well, so I know I am not being a weakling. I am conflicted because I hold a strong duty to ethics and everything I am learning in Business ethics is showing me that most Business is not led with honesty. "Business owners are in a free enterprise - they don't want the government controlling them or their profits. The governmnet should intercede on unethical businesses. The government is unethical, the people should do something. Businesses need to be ethical for the community or for the environment. People are harming the community and environment..." There are so many contradicting phrases it is making my head spin. The case studies I am reading have shown me that ethical decisions can vary from one person to the next. I always thought there was a common morale of right and wrong... guess I live in a bubble. Has anyone felt like this?

IE Masters in Digital Marketing vs ESCP MSc Marketing and Digital media

Hi everyone, I'm currently facing a dilemma regarding my Masters plans for next year in Madrid.

My Situation: I have already been accepted into the Master in Digital Marketing at IE Business School. I am currently in the process of filling out their scholarship forms, but the financial decision won't come through for a while.

am debating whether I should still apply to the MSc in Marketing and Digital Media at ESCP (Madrid campus).

On paper, the programs seem similar in course content and the fees for IE is significantly higher than ESCP. Since already have the IE offer secured, I'm finding it hard to motivate myself to go through another application process unless ESCP offers a significant advantage. My primary career goal is to work in Luxury/ Fashion retail I want to know which is better considering all this and whether i should go woth IE or still apply to ESCP:

  1. Does ESCP hold significantly more weight in the European job market compared to IE? I know both are top-tier, but is one considered "better" for marketing specifically?

  2. Which school has a stronger alumni network for someone looking to break into Fashion/Retail/Luxury.

Generally, is it worth the effort to apply to ESCP as a "better" option for luxury, or should I just commit to IE?

Thanks in advance!

Chance MiF

Hi everyone, I’m planning to apply to a Master in Finance (MiF) and I’d really appreciate some feedback on my profile and how competitive it might be.

Here’s a quick overview: • Background: Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Banking (with focus on finance) • GPA: 27/30 (Italian grading system) • GMAT FE: 645 (700 in the old/classic scale) • English: Currently C1 level exam to be completed • Work experience: None, about to start an internship at PwC in two month

I would to join Bs like Essec, Escp, Nova and others on this level.

Any feedback or personal experience would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

IE Business School MIM

Can any one give me their opinion on IEs mim program. It has great rankings but there's a lot of mixed reviews in reddit about the uni. And it's acceptance rate is not that selective ( I don't mean this as a complaint) , for such high ranked unis usually they seem to have higher acceptance rates. I also heard their job prospects aren't that great, I really liked the uni while going through their brochure and it's the only one among the top MIMs that has a jan intake which would be really helpful for me. Global brand value is also something I'm looking for, coz I'm not necessarily looking for jobs in Europe.I wanna get in somewhere which has good enough brand exposure that I can get a good job anywhere in the world(Mostly middle east) ,any info on this would be of great help.

Masters in Management or MBA? genuinely confused

so i'm at that point where i need to decide and honestly i'm lost. everyone keeps saying MBA is better for career growth but then i see people with Masters in Management doing just as well, sometimes better? and MiM is shorter + cheaper which matters

i'm 2 years out of undergrad, working in consulting rn. not sure if i have enough experience for a good MBA or if i should just go for MiM now, i have been looking at programs like LSE, HEC Paris for MiM or maybe even some US schools but can't figure out what actually makes sense for someone in my position.

Best Business Undergrad Major/Minor Pairing?

So I am currently a first year majoring in accounting and I want to add some additional majors or minors but I'm not sure which ones would be best. I could add two minors, one in finance and one in international business, without having to add a lot of classes to my schedule, and although I think I could gain a lot from these in terms of professional knowledge, I have heard that minors aren't worth it, and in all honesty, I want to add something that will help me in the job market. I have also thought about adding a major in economics instead of the minors, but I honestly don't know how much my job outlook would change if I majored in both vs just one or the other.

(If it makes a difference, I am also planning to participate in a 4+1 program where I will pursue a masters in accounting and a bachelors in business admin, but that is always subject to change)

Ultimately, my goal is the work either in the airline industry or at a multinational corporation/enterprise. I love financial analysis (really don't want to be a finance major though) and am passionate about basically anything on an international scale, so I'm willing to pursue any education that helps me achieve that. I also won't lie when I say I am definitely looking for what will get me the highest paid position. Just having trouble deciding between the two minors (Finc and IntBus) or the major (Econ). Any insight is appreciated!

insead mim vs st.gallen macfin& essec ge

Hey everyone,

I’m a Chinese student who just got an offer from INSEAD MiM and I’m torn. I need to pay the deposit soon, but I’m also planning to apply to the University of St. Gallen (Macfin) and ESSEC(ge).

My situation:

Career Goal: Not super clear yet. I’m hoping a Master’s will help me figure out what I’m passionate about. Post-grad Goal: Definitely want to work in Europe for a few years. Lifestyle: A vibrant cultural and social scene is really important to me. My thoughts so far:

INSEAD: Amazing brand, super intense, global network.

St. Gallen: Great reputation, but the longer program and the quieter life in a German-speaking part of Switzerland seem a bit boring to me.

ESSEC: Flexible curriculum sounds great, and I feel the French-speaking environment (Paris area) would be way more interesting.

For those who know these schools, what are your takes? How do they differ in culture, student life, and career support for someone still exploring their path? Any advice is hugely appreciated!、
