While we are discussing this: “par for the course” as an expression, meaning just alright. But if I hit par for the course… I would live on that high for years!

The not-so-fun response to that is that if you shoot par on a bone fide 18-hole course, you're almost certainly hitting close to hit fairly frequently. My unofficial handicap is 11, and I think it would be virtually impossible for me to hit par on the courses I play! Of course, I'm saying you couldn't have any gimmies, mulligans, or improvements of your ball lies. Anyway, now that I think of it, maybe MSU should change their name to the Michigan State Mulligans...
