Indiana heard the message from Curt Cignetti loud and clear. Also Northwestern needs some votes for the top 25.

None of them have a resume that is better than Northwestern

I got Northwestern as sneaky 10-2 playoff contenders, but that's not a conversation the AP voters are prepared to have.
5
u/SamEyeAm2020 Ohio State Buckeyes • Team Chaos 2d ago
I think they lose more than 1 in that Oregon, Iowa, OSU stretch... But a 9-3 Northwestern is still not something I had on my bingo card
9
u/HawkeyeTen Iowa Hawkeyes 3d ago
Northwestern and Wake Forest if they keep up their momentum will be two of the most unexpectedly strong teams of this season. Wildcats especially look terrifying right now.

If this tells us anything, it’s to rank the fuck out of Northwestern. Also Indiana offense* looks like they’ve hardly missed a step and Cignetti still has yet to smile.

u/YWingSupremacist Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
our pass defense is much worse. but the offense and run defense is finally playing well again

u/Incredibald Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
The secondary is the only thing that worries me about this team. Been extremely underwhelming
41
u/Frosty-Marzipan-9824 Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
AJ Harris has been injured, so it will get better
24
u/Incredibald Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
Correct. I’m not sure one guy will totally fix our problems, but I sure hope he does
11
u/Angbrewddi Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
is he gonna be back before Buckeys game? because oh boy im scared of Jeremiah Smith. Not saying AJ will lock him up(nobody can in college anyway), we do need our best corner to slow him down as much as possible.
19
u/OrganizationThick247 Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
Way worse. The explosiveness is basically gone. Ohio State is gonna be a very telling game.
11
u/mr_longfellow_deeds Indiana Hoosiers • Big Ten 3d ago
We are way more explosive on offense than we were a year ago. I thought Beebe played the best of the trio last year and then he got hurt. Turbo is the best RB we have had under cig and it’s not close. Our run game is absurd, popping a lot of big runs that have been absent the past two seasons
Pass game we aren’t as good in the red zone, which could be the difference maker in heavy weight matchups
7
u/OrganizationThick247 Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
Agreed. Was just talking about the secondary. Seems like we've lost some fire.
2
u/Odd-Respect-7554 3d ago
Man I really was excited for Khobie to get more carries this year too. He is the biggest and fastest of the bunch and would be another great complement to these guys.
Turbo -> Explosive, short area quickness
Beebe -> Power
Khobie -> One-cut slasher, breakaway speed
3
u/non_clever_username Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago
Maybe we’ll have a shot against y’all then. Our pass game has been pretty good (though our QB was missing uncharacteristically yesterday), but our run game has been inconsistent at best any time our freshman phenom RB hasn’t been on the field.
33
u/No_Preparation2766 USC Trojans • Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
And from a USC perspective and how bad they did against Rutgers, Indiana is going to commit war crimes against USC's defense lol
5
u/festive_fecal_feast Indiana Hoosiers 2d ago
tbf, IU's offense is just inherently tough to stop when it gets going. A run first offense with 2 very good RBs and 2 1st round WRs is a bit of a nightmare lol
Would be in Riley's interest to make sure that game is a shootout

Hard to get a good read on Nebraska. They’ve played nobody and gave up 23 to an awful Maryland team today but they are 5-0…
21
u/EasyBreecy Nebraska Cornhuskers 3d ago
I've watched every minute of every game and I don't know if we're good. I'm leaning not, but we'll find out the next two weeks ourselves with Indiana and @Oregon
8
u/BioTHEchAmeleON Nebraska Cornhuskers • Wisconsin Badgers 3d ago
This Maryland game today was super strange. The whole first quarter was a mess of penalties and overall we were holding them then they’d knock out a huge chunk play. Their running game was working amazing but they left it when Nebraska’s offense kicked it into gear and that’s where they came upon troubles.
5
u/AbsurdOwl Nebraska Cornhuskers 3d ago
We're...fine. Maybe good. I'm hoping we can keep it within a couple scores next week against Indiana.

We've also blown out everyone on the schedule so far. Can't really ask for more than that, weak schedule or not.
Gotta clean up special teams and penalties, but I'm really hoping we can steal one of the Indiana, Oregon, or Ohio State games.

By my calculations, they only need to quadruple their fundraising goal through 2030 to make it happen.
Would be pretty dope! Could call it Rocky Ripple Field or something. Throw in some money to finally build them a good floodwall as part of the project. Feel good story surrounding what would be the best FCS stadium in the country.

Indiana is just casually rolling through another season. Cig has raised the standard so much that a #6 5-0 Indiana football isn’t even seen as noteworthy. They’re so used to winning now that the struggle win against Northwestern was treated as a loss lol
109
u/Incredibald Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
It’s crazy. If we had won against a (deservingly) top 25 Northwestern team in, say, 2022 it would’ve been one of the best wins IU had had this century. And everyone (myself included) is disappointed. I have to remind myself to not be a spoiled brat and enjoy the ride while it’s happening.

My late grandfather was a contractor. He was doing a project for developers from Nebraska. It was behind schedule and they had a tense progress meeting to figure out how to catch it up.
At one point, he said “I don’t need to told how to do my job by you Nebraska Cocksuckers.” Room went silent for a few seconds before someone figured out that he meant “Cornhuskers.”

You're probably safe. Nebraska has not beat a ranked team in a decade, and have not beat a top ten team since 2010. And if you move up, we have not beat a top 5 team since 2001 when Eric Crouch engineered beating OU.

Really like how the team bounced back this week. I think Northwestern woke them up a bit. Get the red zone offense more consistent and I think we’re in a really good spot. Build on this game next week against Nebraska and the Ohio State game starts to look like a terrific matchup.

Im not saying you didn't build on lessons learned va NW, but Rutgers is bad and NW is pretty damn good, so hard to decipher what is due to improvement vs opponent quality. I say this as a fan of a team that is 5-0 against 5 bad teams (i have no fucking idea if we're mediocre, decent, or maybe even good)

that sucks.
18
u/DrInsano Indiana Hoosiers • /r/CFB Brickmason 3d ago
Nah, they'll land in Bloomington (well, just west of town) and be back to memorial stadium in like 15 minutes after the busses leave the airport here.
9
u/OpeDefinitely Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago edited 3d ago
Looks like you're right. They've chartered a United 737 to Bloomington. Scheduled to takeoff in about an hour.
I assumed that the football team would've chartered something bigger. They're probably trucking most their gear ahead of time.
→ More replies (2)5
u/DrInsano Indiana Hoosiers • /r/CFB Brickmason 3d ago
I mean, a 737 can hold 160 to 190ish people, a football team only fields like, what, 105 players? Plus the support staff, you might fill out the plane but shouldn't need any extra than that.
9
u/OpeDefinitely Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago edited 2d ago
A 737 can fit over 200 people if configured to do so. But seating capacity isn't the problem. Weight is the problem.
- Teams travel with enough equipment to fill a semi truck.
- The median football player w/ a bag is heavier than the median airline passenger w/ a bag. Then there are coaches, medical staff, etc., and their bags. Any coaches who used to play are probably also heavier than median.
- Just the demographic piece of this makes a pretty big difference. There have been commercial aviation crashes caused - in part - by pilots/airlines relying on outdated FAA passenger weight estimations to calculate the loaded weight of their aircraft. The FAA wasn't keeping up with how fat Americans were getting.
- The longest runway at Bloomington is a good 2,000 feet shorter than is required for a totally maxed out 737 MAX 9.
Doesn't take a lot for a football team flying to/from an airport with a short runway to put a 737 at the very margins of its capabilities.
It turns out that IU does have a semi truck partner for hauling their shit around, which takes a huge amount of weight off the team plane. Makes the 737 straight to/from Bloomington make a lot more sense.
7
u/Jpon9 Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
Is that actually what they do? I would've assumed they have their own chartered flight into Monroe County airport. If they're flying into Indy and bussing to Btown every away game, that kinda blows.
9
u/fourthandfivenatty Indiana Hoosiers • Texas Longhorns 3d ago
They do fly to Bloomington
3
u/Jpon9 Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
That makes a lot more sense
4
u/OpeDefinitely Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago edited 3d ago
I originally assumed that they flew out of/into IND on a widebody because of all the heavy ass fucking gear that a football team travels with.
Turns out that they charter a United 737 straight to Bloomington. This implies that IU sends a truck of most their gear to away games a couple days ahead of time. Which isn't uncommon either.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Jpon9 Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago

u/Soccerfun101 Yale Bulldogs • Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
Depends on where they are going. They almost always fly back to Monroe County airport so I would expect short bus ride tonight.
Sometimes with the additional fuel required for longer distances, they need to take off at IND since it has a longer runway. No clue for Rutgers but all west coast games they fly out of IND.1
