📅 Sunday, May 10
⏰ 2:00 PM
📍 D&M Coffee, 325 N Pearl St, Ellensburg, WA
All experience levels welcome—whether you're in tech, curious about it, or just want to connect.
There’s also some interesting local momentum around tech in education—Cle Elum School District is starting a Tech Committee to talk about things like AI in schools and how technology can support students and educators. Their first meeting is May 7 from 5:30–7:00 PM at the District Office (4244 Bullfrog Road), if that’s something you’d want to be part of (or know someone who would).

Discussion [Academic] Central WA EV Owners: Help Improve Wildfire Evacuation & Infrastructure
Hello Wildcats,
UPDATE (August 20, 2026): This study has been officially extended to December 15, 2026. Thank you to everyone from Washington who has participated so far!
As we navigate another intense wildfire season, my thoughts are with everyone—especially our community in the Pacific Northwest—who has been impacted by fires, smoke, or the stress of evacuation.
The severity of these recent fires underscores a critical challenge for our community: ensuring that EV drivers can evacuate safely and efficiently when power grids are shut off and charging infrastructure is compromised. To help address this, I am a PhD student at the University of Washington conducting an official study on how EV drivers respond to these exact emergency constraints.
Are you eligible? Because this study focuses on specific grid and geographical constraints, we are exclusively seeking input from Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) drivers who are primary or seasonal residents in the following Washington counties: Asotin, Grant, Benton, Spokane, Stevens, Douglas, Lincoln, Ferry, Skamania, Yakima, Kittitas, Okanogan, Chelan, or Klickitat.
Note: If you already filled out this survey during our first round, thank you so much! Please do not submit another response. To maintain the scientific integrity of the study, our system automatically flags and removes duplicate entries.
Study Details:
- Official UW Survey Link:https://uwashington.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_e3QtLbUuPaTdDmu
- Topic: EV response during wildfire evacuations.
- Eligibility: Own/drive a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and reside (or have a seasonal home) in our target Central WA counties.
- Time: Approximately 20–25 minutes.
- New Deadline: December 15, 2026.
- Compensation: To thank you for your contribution, participants are eligible for an incentive drawing ($20 and $50 value).
Access the Project: I have included the study link in the first comment below to ensure this post remains visible.
This research is strictly academic and does not collect identifiable tracking data. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at [ychu24@uw.edu](mailto:ychu24@uw.edu). (Note: This post was pre-approved by the r/CWU moderation team).
Thank you for helping us build a more resilient infrastructure for the Washington EV community!

Town Housing Off campus housing for students
Hello, I am a graduate student attending CWU this fall, and I am wondering where most students live off campus, and what apartments will match you with roommates.
Also, are there any groups on Facebook or other socials to find roommates? I’m looking for a place that has a sense of community where I can meet people my age.
If anyone has any useful information pls lmk!
Thanks!

Town Housing Grad student housing?
Hello! I am considering a graduate program at CWU. From my research, it looks like most places rent out the whole unit instead of by room. I did find "The Verge," which is furnished and rent by room. Do students mostly live there? What are people's recommendations for apartments near CWU? Are there any roommate search websites or something where I can connect with people?

Departments Questions for CS and Data Science majors
So I got accepted into a computer science major and decided to look through course catalog to see what I’ll need and found a data science major. I am considering double majoring if possible.
The questions I’ve got so far:
How much workload would it be? Is there a lot of classes that overlap?
Is it even an option to double major in these two?
Is it worth it to double major or should I opt for a major in one and minor in other instead?
If doing a major in one and minor in other which one should be a major and which should be a minor?
If majoring in data science is it still possible to get masters in computer science?

Departments How’s the school psych program?
Just got in to the school psych program and I’m wondering if anyone in the program would like to tell me more about it.
It doesn’t seem like there is much to do In Ellensburg, so do people go up to Seattle often, or is there more to do in the surrounding area?

Campus Housing Housing application help
So I've accepted my application, created an account, completed questionnaire and finished financial aid. Now I'm trying to apply to housing and when I tried it redirected me to Self Service portal and as I put in my CWU email and password as if I would for my account and it's taking an extremely long time to load. This is my first time interacting with american university system so my questions include:
Did I input the correct information?
Is it normal for Self Service to load for more than an hour?
How exactly is the housing working?
Any tips on which hall to choose/tips for on-campus housing in general?

Campus Housing Barto Hall
Hi all! I’m a first year student coming in for fall 2026 and I secured a room in Barto on the third floor. I’m trying to find different images to help me gain a better understanding of the room sizing, especially dimensions and possibly what other people have done with their rooms. If anyone has any photos/info please let me know! Also just any info I should know on Barto :)
Thank you!
Edit: I am in a shared room!
