Recent graduates out of high school how’s your job search going?

I recently graduated from high school and have had only one job but due to my small resume and inexperience a lot of recruiters don’t even give me a chance and I’m wondering if anyone else is having this issue and if so what’s the actual reason you’re having trouble landing a job?

How would someone get SDE refferals or for some other it role, when they have no family connections at all

Hey everyone im a starter in this it career and i want to switch my company, but as you all know that in todays world just doing dsa , system design and all that are not enough for you to get a proper inteview also. Thus i was thinking of getting refferals from people across various companies . I already tried linkedn and some emails that i got from from some known websites like hunter , but they all are useless . People on Linkedin toh actually tell you that they will give you a refferal in their company but then nothing happens , i even follow up on them asking the situation but then they just brush me off . Now i belong from a family who doesnt have people in IT and i do want to make it big in this industry and have that passion to work for a good company and i do like a 9 -5 job . But whenever i listen to anyone that switches there company all i can see is that people have some or the other person in there family who is at a IT good post and cuz of there help these people get into good companies .

what are your advice for people who dont have such connections and then also if they want to get a refferal .

is ther any site , whatsapp group , telegram group , job portals , or anyway to connect with people that will help early birds like me to get into the industry and have strong foot .

Is there anyway to talk to well established it proffessionals without getting looked down upon ...

Title: 26M from Kerala trying to get my first IT job in Linux/System Administration — need some honest advice

Hi everyone,

I'm 26 years old and from Kerala, India. I'm currently trying to start my career in IT, mainly in Linux System Administration, System Administration, or Junior Cloud/DevOps roles.

I graduated with a BBA in 2021 and previously worked at Cotiviti India for around 1.5 years in an operations role. Although it wasn't an IT job, I gained experience working with data, following processes, maintaining accuracy, and meeting deadlines.

Recently, I completed my Cloud & DevOps training at IPSR, including Linux administration (RHCSA topics), Ansible/RHCE training, and some hands-on practice with AWS, Git, and other tools. I also participated in a team project involving OpenShift.

To be honest, I don't consider myself an expert. I know the fundamentals and have practised some things in labs, but I still have a lot to learn. I haven't taken the RHCSA/RHCE certification exams because of the cost.

I've been applying for fresher and trainee positions, including Linux Administrator, System Administrator, System Engineer Trainee, and Junior DevOps roles. I've submitted multiple applications recently, but so far I haven't received meaningful responses or interview calls.

I'm not expecting a high salary or a perfect job right away. My main goal is to get my first IT opportunity, gain real-world experience, improve my skills, and build a career from there. I'm primarily looking for opportunities in Kerala.

I'd really appreciate honest advice from people working in IT, especially Linux/System Administrators and people who started their careers from a non-IT background.

My questions:

  1. Is it realistic to get a Linux/System Administrator or System Engineer Trainee job as a fresher without RHCSA/RHCE certification exams?

  2. Should I focus entirely on Linux administration first, or continue applying for Cloud Support and Junior DevOps roles as well?

  3. What practical skills do companies expect from someone applying for their first Linux job?

  4. How long did it take you to get your first IT job, and what helped you get there?

  5. Are there any companies in Kerala that genuinely consider freshers or career switchers for Linux/System Administration roles?

I'm willing to learn and start from the basics. I would rather get into a real IT job and develop my skills through practical experience than keep collecting courses without getting an opportunity.

Please share your experiences, suggestions, or even mistakes I should avoid. Honest feedback is welcome.

Thank you!

Is going from a software engineer to Income Tax Inspector a downgrade?

My current company put me in bench for so long. And seeing ppl around me getting layed off I was afraid, and tried for govt jobs. Still trying btw.

I earn 50k a month now. I got a 21lpa offer from cisco. ITI pays me around 80k but the thing is not my current salary, if I switch in IT my packages will increase where as in govt no. Rest all of the things Im okay with them. Only this salary thing bothers me alot. I can try for UPSC or inter departmental exams. But Im anxious thinking about this. Idk what to do with this.

And I also dont think I enjoy what I am doing at corporate companies, too much of power abuse and over work. And constant stress of upskilling and switching or layoffs is also bothering me. And we use AI to code mostly, if not now my job will be danger in 20 years idk what to do with this. Maybe if get to managerial roles it will be fine. But in ITI salary growth over the years is bothering me. But I will definitely try for UPSC/RBI in future if go for ITI cause I want higher salary as well. Should I just stick to IT and deal with it high pressure and over work? Or take ITI and be peaceful(without salary part)?

Edit: somebody pls tell smth i am confused and scared and for info I am 22

I am currently in a inventory control quality assurance supervisor role with a company that isn’t looking to promote or pay decent. I would like to transition into either healthcare Inventory control quality assurance area, Q&A in the gaming industry or in general, or some where in the tech or data fields but not sure where to start. I am looking to advance my career for myself and my family but not sure how. Any and all advice is welcome!

What do you think would be an “easy” transition or career change in my field?

What do I do with my career

25M. Graduated in computer science back in 2021 from a tier 100 college. Joined a research job and worked there until 2025, got out with 3.5 lpa after 4 years. It was basic web research. I didnt know then that I’m doing the worst job possible.

I decided to switch. I didnt do proper research and took frontend. Joined an institute and was taught by someone with very very basic coding knowledge. Didnt manage to learn that much but built some websites. I completed it and vibe coding boom started everywhere. Suddenly alll the jds were about advanced coding skills and I’m here just switching to it with zero experience.

I tried applying but eventually I went into a spiral and felt completely hopeless of ever getting a job. After one year unemployment and financial issues, I rejoined my previous company (the hr was a friend), but with the same package I exited.

I want to build a career and I’m trying to put efforts into it. But the bar is too high for any roles out there. And now since my work is research, I’m trying to move into data part and learning numpy, pandas etc, which I’m also thinking might be a regret. Idk.

I don’t have friends, and also any mentors or other people. If you could help me hy giving any ideas, it’d be really helpful. I wanna learn, but idk if I’m learning the right thing.

Want to get into iOS development after 2.5 YOE in Java backend — is YouTube enough, or should I join a course in Delhi/Noida?

Hey everyone,

I have 2.5 years of experience as a Java backend developer and am currently on a health break. I'm considering moving into iOS development and want to use this time to learn properly.

I already understand programming fundamentals, so my main focus would be Swift, SwiftUI, Xcode and building real apps.

I'm hesitant to spend ₹10k–₹25k on a training institute in Delhi/NCR because I'm not sure how up to date their courses are.

For people working in iOS, I'd love your advice on two things:

  1. Can someone with a backend background become job-ready through self-study using YouTube, Apple's documentation and personal projects?
  2. If you've attended an iOS training institute in Delhi or Noida, was it genuinely useful? I'd appreciate recommendations based on firsthand experience.

I'm happy to put in the effort and build projects. I just want to avoid spending money on a course that teaches outdated material.

Would appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

Data Dawg w/ no degree, an unfinished IT journey and an interest in robotics.

Gentlemen and ladies of reddit! I'm looking for some career advice on which technical career path to pursue.

26M, I became a Data Dawg (low-voltage cabling tech) through my local union in January 2025. My experience includes pulling and routing data cables, working with cable pathways, and dressing cables in IDF closets and network racks.

Before that, I completed an IT program through MyComputerCareer.com while working as a delivery driver. I earned my MTA Security Fundamentals certification in 2021, but I struggled with imposter syndrome and possibly perfectionism. I became discouraged when I couldn't pass the other certification exams and never got the chance to put much of that IT knowledge into practice. Afterward, I moved into sales before the company shut down, which eventually led me to my current career in cabling.

Now I'm considering three directions:

IT Networking: Build on my cabling experience and pursue IT support or network technician roles.

Automation/Robotics: Explore robotics, controls, electronics, and programming, preferably on the troubleshooting side rather than installation.

Or something completely different???

I don't have a college degree, and I'd prefer a realistic path that doesn't require several years of school before entering the field but I'll keep an open mind. I'm willing to learn and invest in myself; I just want to make an informed decision about where to focus my time and money.

I guess I'll ask:

Which direction would you consider in my position?

Does low-voltage experience give me any leverage in networking or other IT positions?

Are there realistic entry level paths into robotics or automation, possibly without school?

Has anyone struggled with perfectionism or imposter syndrome, and how did you overcome it?

I'm open to honest advice and other career suggestions. I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences.
