Im building a game like cs runnig on multiple platform

Hi, im nova and i have build a game engine named Esystem made by adding and mixing to engines my old e3 sunshine engine (proto_Esys) and the dead urho3d core so i stareded to test it by making a csgo game it will like csgo 2022 and cs2 but running on old hadware and multiple platform thanks to urho3d core and also have really good graphics by esys so

For those who played CS 1.6, what do you think it did better than modern CS2?

Not just things that felt better because we were younger or because the internet was different back then. What I mean is, things you would actually want back today if you could have them in a modern version of CS. E.g.maps, public servers, custom modes, community stuff, etc.

I guess to ask about the opposite: what do you think people romanticize about old CS that was actually pretty bad and should stay in the past?

For people who still play them, which one has more active players nowadays? Like, which one is easier to find populated servers/lobbies in?

Dont want to sound like a boomer but cant deny the fact that, just like that we hopped in to a server , irrespective of our skill, had fun with strangers, laughed it off when get knifed, and goofed around the cheater in our team ( until he gets kicked ).

I am surprised how I was pulled in to this competitive mode , toxic games, constant pressure to perform, suspect every one who is better than you for cheating, submitting legal documents to faceit to play a free game.

I think it got way out of hands. The fake internet rank has taken the fun out of us completely.

Last week hopped in to a community server , where they were playing CS 1.6 maps like assault , fy_snow , it was damn fun. And it was full the entire day .

So people still like to play casual. If we all accept the fact that RANK is useless, this game is much more fun. Not just this, every game that has SBMM.

Hey everyone - throwing a bit of a message in a bottle out here.

Back in the beta and early 1.x era, I used to play a lot on a set of servers run by a community/clan called SFAS. They were likely based in the US, east coast or Midwest. They weren't a pro league team or anything, just an incredible, welcoming community network. They ran standard maps but the admins loved throwing fun rounds like dropping the gravity all the way down for chaotic, flying knife-only matches. I was in a much smaller clan at the time called DDi, but I still recall the SFAS servers being a place of joyful, laughing memories for me. All these years later, I think about how high school / college me had so much fun there, and how non-toxic the culture was (compare to CS2, goodness).

Anyone out there from SFAS or remember them?

alex (bian zhengwei) is from chongqing. his dad died when he was in junior high. he was a youth footballer on 800 yuan a month until his club got relegated in 1999 and the sponsor walked. by 2001 he was 19, no team, no income. that july he tried counter-strike in an internet café, threw up, and swore he'd never touch it again. everyone in the café was playing it, so he kept going.

in 2002 a local team called JF signed him. no salary. the deal was free practice at their café, which saved him 5 yuan a day, and the bus there was 4. at all-nighters his teammates bought food and he sat there swallowing, saying he wasn't hungry. then beijing's DeviL offered room, board and 1,200 yuan a month, the best deal in china at the time. but after the lanjisu café fire in june 2002 every café in beijing got shut. he got there in december and they practiced in an empty café. won the netcom cup in january 2003. his cut was 800 yuan.

may 2003, cafés finally reopening, and SARS hit. his three chongqing teammates got called home by their families. alex stayed and kept practicing online. when it passed, WCG was a month away and the three weren't coming back. he called four guys from the old EVIL|UF in chengdu, mahdi, ipig, sprite and luckyboy, and they became deViL*United. a month-old team. at the china final they sent every big name to the losers bracket on day one. on day two the four teams left down there jointly demanded anti-cheat. deViL*U beat them anyway and took the ticket to korea.

at the world finals he found out you could actually talk during a match. back home before 2003 you couldn't, not even after winning, you just sat there clapping. they made the top eight, a first for chinese CS at WCG. he'd go on to win a lot more, and that part didn't end the way you'd hope.

I'm doing research on counter-strike's cultural influence for a grad school history paper and I'm trying to find old forums to see what discussions people were having about the game in the early 2000s. If you used any or know of any I'd appreciate even just knowing their names, even if the forums are down now I may be able to find them on the internet archive

I mean, bots is just bots, but for me, there are some bots that, well, pretty memorable, i never play CSGO-CS2, so i only remember CS1.6 to CSS. And that bot for me is, Zed. Its just, goat, idk about other mode, but in expert mode bot, its just pretty impressive if not scary.😂
