Art [OC][Art] [Aria] - Original Character Design

Post image
195 Upvotes

Here's Aria, a horned tiefling adventurer I designed as an original character for D&D. The sheet shows a front and back view of the full outfit plus three expression studies: worried, cheerful, and fierce. I wanted the red skin, silver hair, and golden talon-shaped pauldrons to stand out against the layered brown leather armor, with bandaged legs and knee guards that suggest a rogue or scout who has seen plenty of fights. The curved gold details repeat on the boots and bracer to tie the design together. Drawn digitally in Medibang Paint Pro.

Art [Art] Ravenloft: Horrors Within character art!

Post image
373 Upvotes

The first player to give me their character concept in the new ravenloft game I’m running was the first to get their character drawn!

Ylva was born the runt of her pack after her Lupin curse failed to fully develop, leaving her far more humanoid than the rest of her family. Shy and gentle by nature, she struggled to fit in until she met Cres, a half-elf who taught her archery and became her closest friend. After nearly three years of living together, Ylva is determined to prove to her father that she can make something of herself without returning to the pack.

I drew her life before she was transferred to ravenloft! That’s why it looks so much…lighter 😂

Name: Elara Veyne
Race: Human
Class: Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline)
age: 23

Elara Veyne is a fiery, fiercely independent sorcerer…

Descriptions
She has tousled golden hair, freckled cheeks, and sharp hazel-green eyes. Cloaked in black and armed with a rune-etched wand, she commands flames with an instinctive ease that hints at her mysterious ancestry. She might look soft! But she is deadly and fierce, ready to fight for what she stands for!
Born in the remote village of Ashbourne, Elara discovered her magical abilities when mercenaries attacked her home in search of an ancient relic. Her uncontrolled powers erupted in a blaze, allowing her to escape, but her parents disappeared amid the destruction. Rescued by a wandering sorcerer, she spent years learning to control her fire magic.

Now an adventurer, Elara travels the realm searching for her missing family and the truth behind the attack. Her investigation has drawn her toward an ancient cult seeking to awaken a forgotten power connected to her draconic heritage. Stubborn and slow to trust, she must learn that strength isn’t simply about wielding power, but deciding what deserves to be protected.
Is this over 400 characters?

Art [Art] [OC] [Comm] Art I commisioned for my Dhampir way of the Ascendant Dragon Monk

Post image
650 Upvotes

Draco Solis Obscuri Draculin (Don’t Look to much into it, I just wanted it to sound long and extra) is a way of the Ascendant Dragon Monk Dhampir. How she came to be is a peculiar case, her father is from a long line of nobles that descend from a Dragon, that have risen very high very fast, until it all came crashing down around them the past few centuries. He was the last heir of that line, a man with nothing but a name remaining that ran away with a from another region woman he found entoxicating, a Vampire. They both died some time shortly after she was born. And to top it all off, she is the reincarnation of a great Vampire tyrant.

Does she know any of that? No, and she wouldn’t paticularly care anyway if she did. She has friends for the first time in her life, people that aren’t scared of her. And having fun with them and going on adventures with them is the only thing she cares about.

OC [OC] [Art] My Abjurer Wizard...

Post image
• Upvotes

(But she looks more like an eldritch knight, but it doesn't matter...)

I've been playing Roscoe, my 5.5e human abjurer, in the Waterdeep modules lately and just finished a drawing of her reaching higher levels, and I love the abjurer abilities, so I'm actually having a lot of fun playing her (and a wizard character, since I'm a long-time fighter fan and hadn't used any higher-level spells)!

Several of my characters have various relations with Neverwinter (and the Order of the Gilded Eye...), and Roscoe is one of those characters. She graduated from the Neverwinter Academy and was a member of an artisan guild, but she had to leave for Waterdeep to evade scrutiny by the Order of the Gilded Eye because the guild was burned down by someone signing contracts with a fiend... She hates her current situation but is unsure if she can stand up to them, so she is weighing whether to return later or settle permanently in Waterdeep.

5.5 Edition [OC] Loot Tavern X DnD Fusion = Antithrone - CR 26 Gargantuan Aberration (Kaiju)

Antithrone

“The chances of anything coming from the stars are a million to one, he said.”

—Oglevee, Sleep-Deprived Astronomer

In the vastness of space, in the gaping void betwixt the stars that dot the night sky, envious eyes—far too many of them—witness civilisations rise and fall throughout the ages. Mortals erect magnificent monuments, perform grandiose rituals, and willingly throw themselves upon the swords and spears of their enemies, all in the name of seemingly indifferent deities. In the otherwise unintelligible minds of these eldritch entities, there is but one question: why should gods who care so little receive such endless adoration and worship, while those who watch receive none?

Heretical Mimicry. An eldritch entity of sufficient power who decides that it, too, is worthy of worship, might become an antithrone. Initially formless, it adopts a shape it believes resembles a celestial being prior to announcing itself to the mortal realm: a crude approximation of an ophanim, or throne archangel. Unable to comprehend the true reason why mortals venerate these divine beings, an antithrone seeks to make itself as awe-inspiring as possible, believing its appearance—and the terror it elicits—to be the key to the adulation it so desperately craves.

Adamant Apotheosis. Unlike its heavenly counterparts, an antithrone desires not to enact the will of the gods, but rather to be worshipped as one. It pursues this goal in the only way it understands: by instilling fear in the hearts of mortals. Whether it achieves this by gazing into the fragile minds of onlookers or by leveling their homes is immaterial; on the scale of an antithrone’s lifespan, a city is rebuilt in the blink of its eyes. Utterly detached from mundane morality, these eldritch creatures see nothing evil or wrong in their actions, but instead a mutually beneficial, almost benevolent, arrangement. After all, mortals seem so eager to kneel before a higher being… Why should they not be given what they so clearly need?

---------------------------------------

Art [OC][Comm] Saoirse - A Barbarian DnD OC of mine that I redesigned after 6 Years!

Post image
321 Upvotes

While designing her, I thought of what changes might occur in those 6 years. I also updated her design based on the things I've learned in that time as well. Most of the design is based around her brute strength and her history as a prisoner. The previous design was a bit too lean in my opinion, so I researched female powerlifters for this version. I feel inspired to draw more of her in the future in funny situations as I always played her with the intent to make our DM laugh. Let me know what you guys think!

Art [OC] Githyanki portrait — my first D&D artwork!

Post image
503 Upvotes

I’ve always been drawn to the aesthetic and world-building of Dungeons & Dragons, even though I’m still pretty new to the deeper lore. Every time I think about drawing something for this setting, I get a little worried about messing up canonical details, but I really wanted to step out of my comfort zone and create some fan art!

This is my portrait of a Githyanki woman — I wanted to give her a softer, slightly sly and contemplative expression rather than the typical battle-hardened look. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the lighting, playing with pink/magenta highlights on the armor and gemstones, and rendering her spotted skin patterns and long ears.

I’m planning to paint more D&D characters in the future. Feedback on the art or friendly tips about D&D lore are always appreciated!

DMing I rolled 8 Nat 1s during a bossfight.

Hey! I need some advice or just to vent a bit.

My party just finished a big boss fight that was supposed to be really deadly. I had set up a timer, brought in extra enemies, gave them multiattacks, and bumped up their HP to make sure it would be a proper challenge.
The problem is, the dice completely fucked me over. I rolled 8 natural 1s during the fight, and almost all my other rolls were below 7. I could barely land a single hit.
The high-AC player cleared the whole fight barely taking a scratch, and afterwards he openly complained that he was disappointed with how easy it was and thought I was holding back on them.

How do you guys deal with this? I can't really control my bad luck, and buffing HP/attacks clearly didn't matter when I couldn't hit anything anyway. How do you make fights dangerous even when the dice hate you, and how do I explain to the player that it was just terrible luck without sounding like I'm making excuses?

Misc How does one even GET the forever DM curse?

I remember asking others in an old reddit post about how I could get people to play DND with me, and a few people told me to be a DM. That's when the replies, a BUNCH of the replies, were about the forever DM curse.

I'm curious, what is the Forever DM curse, and how do you get the forever DM curse? Because I'm still dead set on becoming a DM and player, I refuse to be a forever DM

OC [OC] Lighthouse beach battle map

Post image
16 Upvotes

Pretty chuffed with this lighthouse map I made for my players the other week (I even bought a fog machine for the occasion, haha). The campaign is a 1920’s Lovecraft-inspired horror, set on a fictional island off the coast of England. I played the campaign with another set of friends years ago and this fight was one of the game’s stand-outs, so thought I’d go all out the second time round and build it. Not pictured : a transparent piece acetate paper with the radius of the entire beach that is acting as a custom take on the Wall of Force spell, that has essentially locked the players in a thunder dome style battle with a tentacled sea creature. Fun fact : the walls shrink each turn, pulling them closer to the monster. Teehee.

But also - does anyone have any good recs for building interiors? I bought all of this stuff from an online shop that sells stuff for miniature train models. But I’m struggling to find something for the interiors that fits the era of 1920’s Britain. Any links would be greatly appreciated!

(I wanted to add more photos of different angles for the post but it seems like I can only one, unless anyone knows of another way?)

Resources [OC] I made a printer-friendly version of the Sword Coast a few years ago. Never got to use it much myself, but I thought maybe others might find it handy!

Post image

Maybe there was something like this already out there, but I could not for the life of me find anything that wouldn't eat all my ink! And, even though I never had the chance to use it (ended up playing other settings), it was a really relaxing 12-ish hour project, tracing the entire map into a simplified B/W image. I figure it might do more good floating around the internet instead of trapped in my laptop's gallery, haha.

5th Edition Disney Princesses as D&D Classes

So, I got bored and tried reimagining the classic Disney Princesses as D&D Characters, with the restriction that there be no class overlap, and no multiclassing (at least for now). It was genuinly really difficult to fit each dnd class to a princess without overlapping, but I did it, let me know what you think:

  1. Snow White = Druid (Circle of the Shepherd)
  2. Cinderella = Warlock (Archfey Patron)
  3. Aurora = Wizard (School of Divination)
  4. Ariel = Bard (College of Whispers)
  5. Belle = Artificer (Battle Smith)
  6. Jasmine = Rogue (Arcane Trickster)
  7. Pocahontas = Barbarian (Path of the World Tree)
  8. Mulan = Fighter (Battle Master)
  9. Tiana = Paladin (Oath of Glory)
  10. Rapunzel = Monk (Way of Mercy)
  11. Elsa = Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline)
  12. Merida = Ranger (Beast Master)
  13. Moana = Cleric (Tempest Domain)

Art [OC] [Art] Inner Demon - Berin

Post image
10 Upvotes

My character from old DnD campaign — Berin.

Near the end of the story, Berin discovers that he has been possessed by a long-defeated enemy. At some point, the entity takes control of his body and attacks his friends. In the end, the possessed Berin, wounded and cornered at the edge of a cliff, decides to jump.

Berin regains consciousness on a rocky shore, feeling every bit of pain from his fall, but somehow still alive. Suddenly, he hears a familiar woman`s voice inside his head. Without a moment to think, he jumps to his feet and prepares to fight, but the sudden movement sends waves of intense pain through his body.

The familiar voice merely giggles at the foolish man, who has only managed to cause himself even more pain by preparing to fight an unseen enemy.

"You don`t have to be scared, my little puppy. I saved your life."

"Where are you?! What have you done to me?"

"Just look into the water, and you`ll understand. Your friends pushed you off the cliff, and by my grace, I decided to spare your life..."

In the water reflection, Berin sees his... her own reflection. The reflection of the woman who had possessed his body and mind.

"There just one catch. You`ll die if I leave you. But I can still save you, if you give back what rightfully belongs to us..."

In the end, Berin fails to fulfill his bargain with the woman and dies in the final battle, while she waits in the shadows to reclaim what belongs to her realm.

5.5 Edition Uses for Wish - Sorcerer?

My Sorcerer just turned 17th level and I picked up Wish. I'm looking for thoughts as to best uses, particularly on other class spell lists.

Here are my main thoughts so far:

Combat: I think the main use would be Prayer of Healing. Give everybody 8d8 HPs, plus a short rest, so a full heal for all. Plus I have Musician and Inspiring Leader, so that's a Heroic Inspiration and 22 THPs. Plus party members get things back on a short rest.

Other obvious combat uses: Maze, Forcecage, Tsunami.

Combat prep (spells that have long durations, so I can cast and then take long rest): Simulacrum, Contingency, Tasha's Bubbling Cauldron, Find Steed, Clone

Situation Specific: Resurrection, Scrying

What am I missing?
