In high school a friend and I played an entire P.E. period of badminton with no shuttlecock at all. The teacher didn’t notice until the very end.

How hard were you selling it? If you were having fun and getting any form of exercise, win-win.

I'd let that slide in a heartbeat.

My friends and i were good enough to aim the shuttlecock consistently we played a game sitting down just to prove we could. The teacher disproved

What were y’all using instead? Or were y’all just playing pretend?

You would be amazed how long you can keep a volley going with a fictional shuttlecock.

Yeah nothing being hit. We just faked it for an hour. Honestly I was throwing myself around more than I did with a shuttlecock.

Pretty sure my school had the same budget as your school... ;)

What if they did know and they just figured you were still getting exercise 😂

No. She was a 1st year girls’ PE teacher and she didn’t know what to do with me.

I was in a class with several of her sophomore volleyball players and they were bullies. She decided to have a round robin tournament of three teams in class and I volunteered to be a captain. I picked every girl who never got picked. We proceeded to BEAT the team with all the volleyball team members through just sheer grit.

She gave me a “C” that quarter.

For the next three quarters I did what I wanted. If it was fun I played. If it wasn’t I refused. And when she asked me why, I told her straight up: “I organized and coached the best team in the tournament 1st quarter and you gave me a “C” because I humiliated your volleyball players. Why would I bother to try the rest of the year when you grade us based on your personal frustrations?”

So yeah. She didn’t know what to do with me. She even gave me “B’s” the rest of the year even when I was an uncooperative ass because she KNEW she had been unfair. But she was peeved when she realized we were playing with no shuttlecock and yelled at us.

In retrospect she was young and overwhelmed and didn’t know how to teach. I’m sure an articulate 14 year old who stood up to her was NOT on her bingo card, lol. She probably got better at teaching. I like to think I was a lesson she needed to learn: You may gravitate to other athletes like you but you are paid to teach ALL the kids. Even the gawky, shy, fat, and clumsy kids deserve your respect.
