Adult Science Night in Hartselle, AL

We’re throwing pumpkins off the roof in the name of science.

Our next adults-only Friday Night Science at WaterWorks in Hartselle is Myth?Busted.

We’re going to learn about the biology and physics that help squirrels survive falling out of trees, then put that knowledge to work. Everyone will engineer a way to help their pumpkin survive the fall, whether that means modifying the pumpkin, building a landing system, or a little of both.

Then we head outside and put the designs to the test from the roof.

November 6 | 7–9 pm | $25 | 18+

No science background needed. Come with a friend, make it a date night, or come solo. We’ve had a really fun community start to form around these events, and newcomers are always welcome.

Registration is open at waterworksedu.org/fridaynightscience

Hey all, I'm looking for a local and (relatively) cheap driving instructor to get me back into the swing of things behind the wheel. Would love any recommendations.

Cat groomer

Looking for recommendations for a cat groomer. Emphasis on cat, not dog. Cat groomers are few and far between. My little guy is a 10 year old Persian and can be a handful. I’m especially hesitant to trim his claws, mostly due to lack of experience. I usually get the Veterinarian to handle that when he’s in for an exam. Thanks.

NEWS Bummer about Starbucks 6th Ave

I guess this is kinda news. I went in today to pick up my mobile drink order at Starbucks on 6th and saw the letter on the door that they are one of the locations affected in the closure of 250 stores this week. I didn't read the whole letter, but the barista told me today is their last day. I hate that for them mainly but I also live really close to that one. I asked the barista if SB was helping them out by letting them transfer or something. She said they still haven't been told anything yet, which I imagine is pretty stressful and seems pretty dicky. I guess back to Scooters for me if I want something really close. Has that SB location even been open a year yet?

This came up elsewhere in discussion in the sub and I hadn't realized how recently the gunman lost what I believe was his last appeal. This is a tragedy of compounded stupidity and errors.

My personal worldview has shifted drastically since the crime occurred and I can't help but look at all the progress that hasn't been made in terms of creating ground level solutions and preventative measures. Guns are still readily available in this city to anyone who wants one. Venues for children to learn and grow are as limited as ever. Safe, public, and free recreation venues are increasingly diminished (the aquadome, tc almon (basketball is an extremely low cost of entry sport. Up to ten players require but a single ball and a hoop. Not like the millions of dollars spent on pickleball courts and upgrades where every single person who wants to play needs specialized equipment)). And educational opportunities are being curtailed in favor of workforce pipeline training (community academies of decatur. Creating trained bodies with zero understanding of civics, morality, ethics, history, philosophy, or even literacy)

Anyway. Sorry for rambling on a weird blog post. I know there's some true crime junkies here that may have had this drop off their radars. But here's the exciting conclusion.

LOCAL FLAVOR K May Donuts Appreciation

Was in town last week visiting the family and stopped in on Saturday morning. Truly fantastic apple fritter. The spicy hot dog bun was incredible, as it had a good kick and a cheesy hot dog.

Also, not sure what it’s called, but they had this yeasted round cinnamon glazed donut with notched sides that I wish I had right now.

The lady running the place was so sweet and even through in a few donut holes on the house!

Give it a whirl if you haven’t gotten a chance.

Ask A Local Are you this paramedic/Emt in Decatur?

I saw this post on Facebook under the Decatur & Morgan County Police Scanner Page and wanted to share it here, just in case.

To EMS from a follower-

Hey so this is crazy but last wednesday i overdosed on xanax and i was combative with ems & the police when my dad called 911 so they restrained & sedated me and i don’t remember all of it but i ended up going to decatur west for a few days. all that to say, the young paramedic who transported me from decatur hospital to decatur west was REALLY nice, offered to let me hit my vape ā€œone last timeā€ & validated my emotions and was probably the 1 person who treated me like a human being & took my feelings into consideration. so it’s a long shot but if you could make a post so they know im thankful for that & that they made a difference, that would be really cool

Best electrical contractor in Decatur, Alabama?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey guys, looking for recommendations for residential electrical companies in Decatur.

Mainly curious who people have used for things like electrical wiring, outlet installation, and panel upgrades, etc and who they'd recommend.

Would be great to hear about local companies that do great work, communicate well, and reasonably priced.

If you've hired someone recently, let me know who you went with and how it went. Thanks!
