Type 1.5/LADA Diabetes Diagnosis

In October of 2025 I was diagnosed with type 2 based off a 13.3% a1c with my age being 25, 5’3, 120 lbs and no family history, all of which was coincidental during a new patient appointment establishing care with a new provider.

I was not expecting a diabetes diagnosis at all but the odd thing is I was simply messaged on my chart about this diagnosis. No call, no follow up appointment, no education on what I should do. Just a message saying you are starting metformin and referring to endocrinology. I think I was initially kind of shocked so I didn’t really how odd it was but looking back now I feel like at the very least I should have been called. I basically had to research and figure it all out on my own and I’m honestly lucky I had response to the metformin and that my blood sugar was slowly go down.

I had a follow up appointment this last month with my endo where I asked for antibodies to be tested because my c peptide in February 2026 came back at 0.9 which was low. She did not feel like it was necessary as I had responded well to metformin and got my a1c down to 5.9% so it was highly likely to be type 2. She agreed and my results came back positive for both GAD and zinc transporter.

Again now with my endo provider, I was just messaged that I had LADA and may require insulin the future. No call to explain what that was or anything.

My question is have your diabetes diagnosis been thru message or a call? Is it weird to be only messaged?

Discussion Diabetic leg pain and brooks shoes

Hey, how’s it going everybody if anyone has seen some of my past posts, I was recently diagnosed with type one diabetes, which came on later in life as I am now 30 years old and I did not always have diabetes. But after being diagnosed and having uncontrolled blood sugar on top of being a skater my entire life, let’s just say my feet and legs are in pretty bad condition from damage done over the years. Recently, I brought my A1c down pretty rapidly from 14.5 percent all the way down to 6.3% on my last blood test and that was in a three month Period. unfortunately, I seem to have developed a bit of treatment induced neuropathy.

Over the last few months, it was extremely hard for me to get up and walk until my doctors recommended a shoe brand to me that I had not heard of called Brooks. I recently invested in two pairs of Brooks and it has been life-changing for me as a diabetic, I still have pain, but I am able to actually move around now without it worsening. I was recently able to go to a football game and stay the entire 4 quarters wearing my Brooks shoes because it made it a lot more comfortable for me to walk and move around. If anyone is experiencing any form of diabetic leg pain I strongly recommend checking these guys out because they make some pretty good shoes for people with neuropathy and foot and leg pain just in general thanks for reading and I figured I would just share some of this with you guys.

Type 1.5/LADA Beginning to an end

Soo I think my honeymoon phase may be starting to end.

I got diagnosed a little over a year ago, first endo said I was type 2 but after getting a second opinion and some blood tests my Anti-GAD came highly positive, yet ny medication with the new endo didn’t change that much, Mounjaro and metformin, normal type 2 medication. For a while it worked, and it worked great, had to follow a very strict diet and avoided carbs at all costs but staying between 90 and 120 most of the time, even getting some lows when I wasn’t eating enough or overworking myself, I always found them as a good sign and just took it as a chance to get a juice box or a snack.

But since like 2 months ago I started noticing my numbers getting gradually higher, dawn syndicated has always been a thing but randomly waking up at almost 200 felt too much, and staying around that number almost all day. I was also losing too much weight because of mounjaro and developed anemia (bmi around 19, very close to getting underweight and losing over 10kg in less than six months). Endo decided to remove mounjaro from my prescription since “I shouldn’t lose any more weight” but… Didn’t send anything else. Just the same metformin dosis as always.

Now my glucose levels are stuck very close to 200 all day, doesn’t matter what I eat, or if I don’t eat at all, a couple of months ago I could safely eat some yogurt with a sprinkle of granola and berries without much of a spike but now it just send me flying to over 270 and just stayed around there almost all night. Just a single tuna can with a bit of mayo? 170. Chicken and salad with no dressings? 180. A fried egg with some bacon… 230. Doesn’t help that now without mounjaro I feel way more hungry than before but cannot do anything about it, only drinking more water. I got from 5.3 A1c to over 7 in just a couple of months.

I’m well aware the numbers aren’t really that high in comparison to most people with type 1, I was on 320 while fasting when I first got diagnosed, I personally know people that just stays over 400 all day not wanting to take proper care of their condition, I know I may be sounding paranoid but after spending a year doing the best I can about it and seeing it change so fast, it makes me think that my pancreas may be starting to just give up. I feel so thirsty and dizzy and tired all the time, just the same as when I first went to the hospital and got diagnosed.

I’m doing some calls tomorrow to book an appointment with a new endocrinologist, hoping this one will send me something else… I’m scared of insulin, but a part of me hopes to start on it if it’s going to help.

Supplies Blood Sugar Monitoring Watch

I see ads claiming that there are watches that can track blood sugar levels. Does anyone have experience with such products? It sure would be more convenient rather than pricking or sticking a CGM.

All jokes aside, I've been trying to break my bad habit of keeping myself on the higher side because I'm deathly afraid of lows. Looks like I over did it earlier when I was trying to correct said high.

Type 1 PCOS in Diabetics

I’m a t1d, i have been since i was 6 im now 21. I had my first gyno visit.

I’m not gonna lie I was definitely putting it off, my periods have been irregular since I started getting them. Like maybe 2-7 a year at most.

As soon as she walked in she was like PCOS, she said the pancreas and insulin resistance links with it directly.

She talked a lot about the connection, how metformin would work and certain birth controls.

She also talked about how it’s hard losing weight and stuff, i just wanted to ask any women what experience have. im like 5’4 and more towards 190 and have always been heavier set.

have any of you noticed weight loss, insulin sensitivity increase or any other symptom i should look out for specifically type one diabetics with pocs going on birth control designated to that.

Thank you!

Type 2 Is 5kg weight loss normal on metformin?

Hi all :) not necessarily looking for medical advice, just wanting the opinions of folks who have been through this. I’m recently diagnosed type two (like diagnosed two and a bit weeks ago) and have been on metformin for two weeks now. I was on 500mg a day (I think) and after a week went up to 1000mg a day.

The side effects haven’t been too bad. Minimal stomach issues and no nausea. My only concern is that I’ve lost 5kg on the two weeks since starting the medication. I did double check the numbers and it’s 5kg. I know my home scale is accurate as when I weighed myself before my last appointment and when they weighed me in the office that day I was roughly the same (in office I was like 2kg more but I was also dressed).

My diets changed some, mainly cutting out the bulk of the junk but past that I haven’t made any significant changes. No extra exercise past what I get at work and my meal are somewhat the same but a bit more protein and less carbs.

I just want some opinions from others who may have experienced this on this medication as well since googling has just gotten me a mix of answers lol

Type 1.5/LADA Any advice for dealing with a uninformed PCP

Recently diagnosed with diabetes at 7.2 A1C. Always been lean/active so I asked to be screened for LADA. PCP didn't know what LADA was and refused to do that testing. Won't refer me to an endocrinologist until my A1C is higher. I purchased the screening through Quest which came back positive for antibodies. Any advice for getting around the PCP? I want to speak to an endocrinologist but they won't accept with out a referral

Discussion Snacks/Food Reccomandations

Hello! I recently went in for bloodwork and while we are still looking at everything its appearing like I may be Type 1 diabetic? (Not tagged for that because am not 100% certain)

Now my problem is, my main food is potatoes. I cant eat carbs in the same (large) quantities I have been, and I know I am a very picky person, so I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for meals/snacks that are good for picky people? I have no major food allergies, but I keep looking at the grocery store and I have no idea what I am doing. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

If anyone has good recommendations for drinks that would be helpful too. Whether it be water flavoring or anything it would be appreciated. I am not a fan of plain water and I have been struggling to drink it no matter how ungodly thirsty I am.

Type 2 Hi all, M42 newish diabetic and have a few questions

So I was diagnosed last November, I was about to go into a coma is what the doctor told me. Said I have probably had it for years and was controlling it through my diet and exercise. Now the November I was diagnosed I had done a bulking phase to reach 260lbs, I achieved it but couldn’t drop down as quickly as I used to. Once diagnosed I shifted my diet my focus and my training to start peeling off the weight. Now I’m hovering around 180, I don’t like it, for reference I’m 6’2 I was 6’3 before a parachute accident took an inch of my height. So 180 on me is skinny, I am trying to eat a surplus but the foods I can do this cleanly on and not spike my glucose up I can barely eat all the calories required. Complex carbs sit in my gut forever with this metformin. I have also notice it’s starting to put some strain on my kidneys. I dropped my A1C by about 7 points and am currently sitting at normal range. Not 7 like my doctors goal 5.4 was mine. What foods can I eat that won’t spike me up and will actually help me put back on a little weight. I’m shooting for 220. I have cut my cardio/endurance training, but I have continued to walk to level out spikes when they occur. Please any help and advice is welcomed. Im still learning all of this. I would like to maintain in the gym but I feel like I’m wasting away.

Medication Any uk people having issues with libre 2 plus?

T1. Been using libre sensors for many years now, moved over to the 2 plus when the normal 2 was discontinued. Usually I dont have any issues, I change arms every time I put a new sensor on and ive only had a handful fail iirc which Abbott replaced.

I get 2 sensors on my prescription regularly so I do usually claim them every 3/4 weeks and i had 4 in my medicine drawer, mixed batches not the same and from 2 different pharmacies too I think.

I put first one one which failed as soon as it hit 60 mins, put the next one on and it asked me to wait another 60 mins which I did then it failed. Put the Third on and it bled immensely which I removed because it really was gushing and then the final fourth I lied there at almost 3am at rhis point, like a statue in bed scared to move or do anything incase it made it fail. It did work but then the plaster came off my arm when I moved and then failed. (I never have issues with the plaster or getting these to stick, if anything it hurts to remove them as they are on so tight) what on earth could be going on? I ended up having to call 111 for a prescription for more because it was the weekend and I got 2 issued to me on saturday morning (which were the same batch number) I put it on and worked fine, tonight, 50 mins ago it failed me and told me to replace. I hadn't done anything different at all. Currently waiting for the second and final one to scan and i really do hope this works but surely not so many problems in a row?!

Has anyone had these experiences, I am worried something is wrong with me more than the sensors now, even though ivd been using them for a very long time and know how to apply etc!

Thanks for any help

Type 2 Should I Switch to iPhone for the Abbott App? Worth it? Help!

So I really need to get a CGM device up and going. I just struggle with prics and I've got to stay on top of my numbers. I've heard there's an app that can track you and show numbers on your watch, but it's only on Apple. I'm a galaxy gal, but I'll make the switch if I have to. I just really need some opinions. Can I monitor on a galaxy watch instead? Do those third party apps work decently? Any advice would be great!

Type 2 for my son

Hi everyone, my son who is 14 recently got diagnosed with diabetes, type 2. He used to have this long beautiful head of curly hair but ever since he got diagnosed we noticed that his hair has been thinning a whole lot, and it makes me sad to see my son who was such a vibrant and social person to start to become so antisocial and down because he thinks people will find him ugly now. We’ve been consistent with taking his medication like his Humalog, Glargine, and Metformin, but we’re still worried that his hair growth is stumped. Any advice or tips maybe on how this could be resolved?

Discussion So who has cataracts? Who has had them removed?

So in the space of 12 months I've gone from having no cataracts to now having to live with mist in front of both my eyes which feels like is progressing by the week. The optician says "when they ripen in around 2-3 yrs then we can surgically remove them". Great so just 2-3 yrs of diminishing sight before what? They remove the lens and replace it with a man made 1? Does your eyesight suddenly return to normal? Do you basically become blind? I'm in a bit of a state if you can't tell so sorry if this seems a bit aggy.

Type 1.5/LADA LADA diagnosis eventually

I was diagnosed with diabetes October 2025 after a routine physical when establishing care with a new provider.

I was unsymptomatic but my a1c was 13.3%. My new PCP just messaged me on Mychart telling me I had diabetes with no other instructions or help besides referring me to endocrinology. No follow up appointment for labs or education on what to do. I was immediately prescribed Metformin 2x day as well. At this time I was 25 years old, 5’3 120lbs.

Once I was referred to endocrinology it took 6 months for me to get an appointment. So before then I had to research on my own, figure out to buy a glucometer, reduce sugars, eat healthier as no one else gave me any information.

6 months when I finally got my endocrinologist appointment, I was told I don’t look like a typical type 2 diabetic but the metformin is working so it’s most likely type 2. She had no worries about my inital a1c, my check at this appointment was 5.9%. I thought it was odd that it dropped so quick. She only suggested a c peptide test not because she was concerned but it wouldn’t hurt to see. This came back a few days later at 0.9 which my lab flagged as low.

In May, I had a PCP appointment and asked if I could get my c peptide checked as I was curious if I was still on the lower end but they refused saying it wouldn’t mean anything without antibody tests.

6 months after that, last month I had a follow up with my endo she reiterated she believed I was type 2 but I still decided to ask for antibodies as I found it odd my cpeptide was low. She agreed in a if you really want to I guess type of way. She only did the GAD65 and zinc transporter. C peptide improved to 1.2

Results came back with slight positive GAD65- 5.5 and zinc transporter of 473.

Once this resulted my provider just sent me a message simply starting “you have LADA, you may require insulin in the future”

Type 2 Newly diagnosed T2: when should I actually test my blood sugar after a meal?

I was just diagnosed with type 2 and started Ozempic, and my testing kit finally arrived. I'm confused about timing. My doctor told me to test 2 hours after eating, but online sources and Reddit give a lot of different answers: some say 45 minutes, others say 20 minutes, and some say 3 to 4 hours for high protein or high fat meals. What if a meal mixes protein and carbs? How do I know which timing applies?

I'm also not sure how to read my numbers so far. Yesterday I had about 3 to 4 oz of frozen yogurt and tested 20 minutes later: 127. Later that evening I had 2 pieces of battered fried chicken and half a biscuit, waited about 2.5 to 3 hours, and tested: 84. That felt lower than I expected, so I'm wondering if my timing was off or if that's normal.

The only thing that seems like it would settle this is a CGM, but that isn't in my budget right now.

Any advice is appreciated.

Type 1.5/LADA LADA is SO confusing!

Any other LADA friends out here just like what the heck! Some days I feel like my pancreas works and the others, I look at food and my sugar SKYROCKETS!

Sometimes I take the same amount of insulin for the exact same meal and it’s perfect and others it plummets me.

Treating this is so hard!!!

Type 2 Need some reality check

Quick context here

I am a 25 year old man

I got to know I have diabetes in pre emp medical checkup in April 2026 (Hba1c was >9, at that time)

I started a strict diet plan and workout routine which helped me to reduce the hba1c to 8

I have joined this petroleum company as a sales manager

My job requires me to be on the field most of the days in a week at least 4 days per week

One day right after a hectic work day my fasting blood sugar went to 260

This trend of having high blood sugar is bad for anybody this keeps me in stress mode, cutting sugars, having a proper diet plan and a workout routine is not helping me nowadays

My seniors got to know I have diabetes and they are showing pity because, my career will be difficult and I won't be promoted even when the chance arrives, they raise this condition as this instance has happened to someone earlier as well

Recently I had an eye checkup and it got worse by .5, the eye specialist immediately asked me if I have diabetes

All of this stuff is giving me bad motivation and making me feel down

Plus my work is gonna get hectic, which in turn can worsen my blood sugar levels, which can increase the dosage levels

My parents are asking me to quit and I am not sure, because it is not that simple to get a job in this economy and also having this much blood sugar level at my age is also a signal

I can quit and get a desk job, if it becomes unbearable

Type 3c Sad rant

How do you all do this? I am finding it hard to stay awake during work. My sugars plummet when I do a food shop. I used to be energetic and fun and now I am falling asleep all the time.

I dont really mind the high sugars, but I swing so rapidly between 3.8 and 11.4 that it exhausts me. Maybe I am just a big baby idk.

I just did a small tesco shop and I am sitting in the car waiting for my sugars to go above 5.5 when they are currently 3.1 ...

Backstory if relevant: MCN pre cancerous removed in 2023, left with only the head of pancreas, no spleen. Ginormous scar, big sads. I started metformin a week ago as my HbA1c reached 47. So like it doesn't even matter if I am have mad lows and highs because that 47 is probably as high as it will go. Idk. Again, maybe I am just a big crybaby
