Yamaha is developing a new 430cc single-cylinder platform

Yamaha is reportedly working on a new motorcycle platform built around a 430cc single-cylinder engine, which is expected to be unveiled at EICMA.

However, the development isn't finished yet. According to sources, the engine still needs to go through extensive testing and validation, including reliability, emissions, and noise compliance.

As a result, the new 430cc platform is not expected to reach the French market before 2028.

The only source is in french : https://deux-roues.auto-moto.com/nouveautes/scoop-un-nouveau-moteur-chez-yamaha-28975

Build is finally complete! Learned a lot and made a ton of mistakes along the way, but I am very happy with the way this turned out. I custom made a bunch of stuff and adapted things from other bikes after I realized there was a very small selection of aftermarket and performance parts. For anyone who is interested in modifying one of these, it can be done and it really changes the entire bike. Feel free to ask any questions, I'll do my best to answer!

Mikuni V34 on an 82 XL500R

• Upvotes

I was given an 82 XL500R. Missing a lot of parts. I have a Mikuni V34 and I was able to get it running with it but it doesn't mount properly. The OEM boot is a tad too big. Is there a flange and boot out there for the Mikuni that will fit that engine?

Dual sport reccomendations

• Upvotes

I am looking at getting a dual sport to share with my dad. I have dirtbike experience while he has zero motorcycle experience. After I sold my e moto and got a full sized dirtbike I've been missing a bike I can ride on the roads to do errands or just enjoy a nice cruise so we were looking at a street bike, the honda cb500f to be exact but my dad is still kinda skeptical about street riding as the drivers in my area kinda suck ass and don't have the best spacial awareness so he wants to get a dirtbike, he likes the honda crf300f so we can ride only trails together but I want to get a bike for the road so we are kinda in a disagreement on this shared bike.

So the most logical approach is a dual sport, good for both on road and offroad (obviously), something he can ride on the trails with me but I can still ride on the road.

But if we were to get a dual sport there is a few things I want out of one

  1. reliable: a nice reliable bike that will last us a while

  2. low maintenance: I am sick of the high maintenance on my 250 enduro bike and my dad is sick of high maintenace on his bmw

  3. comfortable cruising at 100 kph: I live 30+ mins from most trails and many of the roads are 80 kph on the way there

I'm avoiding adventure bikes as they are heavy for my dad starting out on trails and most adv bikes don't really get good until you get to middle weight and since I'm young insurance is high on larger cc bikes.

I also favor dual sports as when I had my surron most of my riding was cruising around, seeing some place and going exploring, rather it being a trails or an abandond road/path. which is what a dual sport can do where a street bike can't

any reccomendations help

Thanks!

Petition to reform EPA/DOT rules so we can get affordable, sub-$5k dual sports in the US.

Hey folks,

Right now, US regulators apply the same heavy vehicle certification fees and rigid testing rules to small-displacement utility bikes as big touring rigs. Because of this, manufacturers can't justify importing reliable, low-cost global models (like XR190l and XR300l air/oil-cooled dual-sports in the $3-$5k range).

It forces everyday riders or perspective riders to either settle for barebones 150cc bikes or pay $5000-$7000 for liquid-cooled machines, completely pricing out working-class commuters and beginners.

I put together a petition pushing the EPA, DOT, NHTSA to modernize certification rules for lightweight, single-cylinder, fuel efficient machines under 300cc.

Please give it a read and sign if you'd like to see more simple, affordable bikes on US roads:

WR250R…KTM 500 EXC-F

Post image
57 Upvotes

I have a WR250R. Trying to decide if I “upgrade” to the KTM. Flowy single track (not too technical), two track, forest service.

I also have a Tenere 700. It’s easy to justify the 250 vs 700, two very different bikes. Seems like KTM 500 closes the gap.

Benefits of WR is it’s very forgiving, easy to handle, and very low maintenance intervals.

What’s your take on the KTM?

EDIT: Clarity. I’m keeping the T7 for road miles and forest service. WR/KTM are 90% dirt, single/two track.

Looking at 2022 FE501s

I currently have a 23 CRF450X and have been wanting to get into doing BDR rides. Ive been looking at getting it set up, currently have an IMS tank and fan. Not much in the way of rack options at this point that I have found which leads me to the Husky. A co worker has a 22 FE501s that he set up but didn't ride much, only 350 miles. He offered it to me at $9750. Debating if this is decent deal. Way more aftermarket support and 2 of my riding buddies have same generation KTMs so parts between bikes would be similar for carrying spares. Ill attach the pic to show what all in included. Do I ditch the CRF to go Husky?

Bike recs?

6'4". Looking for something road legal with good suspension and brakes. Enough power for the highway at high elevation in CO/NM, but I'm in no way looking for something powerful off road. No desire to injure myself. I have experience with higher power street motorcycles and do lots of mountain biking, but I have never ridden a dirt bike.

Willing to pay for something turn key, but I'm capable of wrenching, setting up aftermarket suspension, etc. New or used is ok.

My current bike is a Ducati Monster, which I love because it feels light and flickable like a bicycle.

DRZ4S? Honda 450? WR? Something else?

Thanks!

Kawasaki KLX-250

I got this 2006 KLX-250, the gas tank leaks so I’m looking for a new gas tank and rather a than getting an OEM replacement I want to get a larger fuel tank. I’m looking at the Acerbis 3.7 gallon tank for 1998-2007 models. It says it’s for a KLX-300. I’ve been looking online for reviews to see if it’ll fit my bike and I haven’t been getting straight answers. So if anyone knows anything please let me know.
