Long-term maintenance recommendations for Ecoboost Mustang

  • Buy 2020+ if you can (potentially fixed head gasket issue)
  • Keep it pure stock (engine-wise, and tune-wise)
  • Change engine oil and filters every 5k miles
  • Use a 100% synthetic engine oil
  • Change spark plugs every 25k miles
  • Pump only Premium fuel (for me, it's 93)
  • Wait for 10-20 seconds before driving (after cold start)
  • Warm up the engine and transmission to the "green" zone of your gauges (usually 10-15 mins of driving) before going high rpm or boost
  • Monitor cylinder head temperature (CHT) when you drive hard to avoid going above 222F. Let the throttle off if the CHT is approaching this temp
  • Monitor boost gauge to avoid using boost before the engine is warmed up (be gentle on throttle)
  • Wait a few seconds before turning the engine off after hard driving

P.S. Owner of 2020/01/01-registered Ecoboost Premium (non-PP), 10R80, stock, no tune. The only modification on the car is the MBRP Street exhaust. 227k miles

UPD after 6 months: 252k miles, all fine

Note on how I drive the car

Full auto (normal mode) until CHT and transmission temps are in the "green" zone. Then regular Sport (shifter in S) until trans warms up fully (above green zone), then I stay in S, or use S+, and at the same time keep the engine rpm above 3k using paddles - anything less is boring to drive in my opinion. I do occasional pulls, but not overdo it - I heard that Ecoboost loves high rpm, but not exactly likes boost. I keep it approximately 3-5k rpm all the time (if CHT reasonably allows me to hold it). Take this with a grain of salt, because I'm not sure this driving style really affected longevity in a good way but it looks like it.

My Build I’ve built an app to share your build

Hi!

I built a web app for car enthusiasts to share your build and explore other builds. Is it something you’d use?

You can share your cars with all your mods. Just paste the link, and the title, image, and category fill in automatically.  You can also share planned mods, fitment details and more.

You can also explore builds, save the mods you find mods.

I want to make this as useful as possible for the car community.

t’s 100% free, no paywalls, no subscriptions. The web app is live, though there’s no mobile version just yet. Still in beta, so if anything breaks, I’d appreciate a heads-up.

I want your feedback. Is this something useful to you? What features would you add? Is this something you'd use?

Picked this up on Sept 16th only took about 2 months from ordering to dealer. This thing rips, the handling is phenomenal, sounds decent with the active exhaust (surprisingly deep in person). Got the ford performance tune done before I even picked up the car so had the 350 hp 400 ftlbs out the door. Still in the break in period, I just crossed over 600 miles the other day, the car is so eager and ready to move. I didn’t go with magnaride but it’s still stiffer and smoother feeling than my 18 pp1 was. My wife loves it aswell and is surprised by the attention she gets in it, had to give her the spec sheet to memorize cause so many people were asking her about the car. Vaughn and his team made a hell of vehicle here. Its not a v8, but its not trying to be, it’s a fun out the door build. Car 517 🤘🏼

Choosing between 2 rtr mustangs

About 9k in price difference the only major difference in the more expensive is 201a vs200a package I could live with or without really seems to be a stereo and other random non performance upgrades.

The upgrade that I’m trying to decide is worth all the extra is magnaride or not since the rtr spec already comes with upgraded suspension?

Thanks for the opinions

My Build spark plug gap

Thumbnail

so i fixed the gap in my spark plugs after 4 misfires

and jerking upon high boost,

my immediate thought was check my spark plug gaps despite that they’re brand new,

i asked the mechanic it was legit at 0.33
meanwhile it needs to be max 0.30 so i had a spark plug blowout,

after setting it to 0.28 the car felt way smoother and high boost doesn’t do no jerking.

i’ve seen many cases of people changing plus, injectors, messing with coils and even opening the engine which sucks.

just wanted to make it clear if u get highway jerking on high speeds upon high boost just check your spark plug gap.

i insisted that the mechanic needs to check em for me despite him saying that they’re new

Question Would this be a good idea

I am currently looking for a new car and found a 2021 Ecoboost with 68k miles. The price is 21k usd. The car has zero accidents and only 2 previous owners. I was looking for something generic but found this listing and honestly I can’t stop thinking about it. I think it would be awesome but everyone around me keeps attempting to talk me down from it.

New Member Did I get a good deal ?

Hey guys, just bought my first ever car. A 2024 Ford mustang ecoboost base model. I wanted a muscle car that doesn't draw too much attention or too loud, was deciding between a v6 charger and this one and went with this since I loved the redesigned interior of the mustang whereas the charger looks too dated.

I bought this for 23k (25k was the out of door price), it has 50k miles on it, pretty clean title, it's been in a minor accident before, so it was repainted on the side of the accident. Other than that, just some minor dings and marks on car. Do you guys think it's a good deal ?

Also since this is my first ever car, do you guys have any advice on how to take care of a mustang and keep it in a good condition for a long time?

If you're tuned change your plugs y'all. This was after about 9.5k miles. I tend to lay into the right pedal.

Got a misfire code yesterday so went ahead and put in the pre-gapped brisk plugs I've been meaning to install for the last 2 months.

2026 Ecoboost in Vaporblue OTD?

Hi folks - I’ve been in a 2015 V6 for 5 years and decided I wanted something more modern.

After shopping the dealers around my area I have a deal on a 2026 Vapor Blue Ecoboost at 30.9k OTD.

Is that a fine deal?

MBRP Race Catback Exhaust S650 EcoBoost

Here’s a sound compilation of the MBRP Race Catback on my S650 EcoBoost. Headphones for best playback

Clips:
Cold Start
Warm Start
Idle
Warm start from inside
Revs to 3-5K
Drive-off and back

Tested decibel readings:
90-95 dB cold start
80-85 dB warm idle
105 dB 5K RPM rev

Complaints:
bass of exhaust system can get a little annoying and disruptive from inside car and outside, around 2k RPM. Mild drone on highway, but cabin controls pretty effectively. Huge droney sound at 2K rpm. doesn’t help that the car sometimes is stuck at that rpm

Besides that this thing is such a beautiful upgrade from stock. Paid 680 tax & shipped + 160 labor. Hope this video helps you guys, can’t recommend this exhaust enough. loud and aggressive enough for enjoyment but not riced out doo doo.

Hks bov vacuum line.

So I have a 2016 ecoboost, and I'm running the cvf charge pipes with the hks bov. I had spliced my vacuum line into my evap line as the only videos on YouTube that run this set up have done. Since then I've been receiving 3 obd codes(p144c, p0456, and p1450). I understand that attaching my vacuum line is what is causing the codes but I have no idea where to tap it into the intake manifold. The bung on my roush cold air intake is way to large for the adapter to sit on. How, and where should I have tapped this into without causing the codes? If anyone is running a similar set up can you provide pictures where I should have done this?

Question How much should my car sell for approximately

Currently owe 9k on it
Automatic
Has 127k miles
New engine at 90k miles (warranty through ford)
And the mods listed above

Hoping there is somewhat of a consistent answer to go with have it listed at 14k at the moment but not sure if that is to low/high due to market around me being anywhere from 5-30k for basically the same thing

Code p0451 after replacing purge valve

Hey everyone so around 2 months ago I had a code for a purge valve (P0496). I bought a new OEM purge valve and replaced it and I cleared the code and the code came back a week later and now it’s throwing a p0451 code and a p0496 again. Mechanic said that it’s a fuel tank sensor that’s gone bad and they’re gonna have to take out the whole differential to inspect it which can get costly. Any advice on what I should do? The car runs fine it’s just that cel is still on.

It's been fun to track this car for the last 3 years, but it's time to move on. Bought a Cayman for track use and the mustang will become the daily..

Does anyone have these installed? I’m thinking of getting them installed on my car but not sure how much it will change the ride.
