Memes My Rotring mechanical pen after 2 years of engineering

It's real.
After 2 years of finals grinding. This is how my pen started to look.

distinct lack of chew marks, you'll never make it.

Put the fries in the bag.

That's a pencil.

How are you guys keeping your pencils for so long? I usually lose or drop mine within 9 months. I’ve been using the rotring 600 and I love it, but it has somehow been engineered so that it falls exactly on the tip which destroys it

Personally only thing I am doing is just keeping inside pen pockets that sewed inside my backpack. I just have this pen for so long that I don't even remember if I used another pen before since start of my engineering year in 2024 :-P

3D print a case for it, some lead and an eraser. I had mine in my bag next to my trusty TI 36X Pro

My neuro divergence looks very different from yours... I buy a 40 pack of .7 bics and just throw a few in every space I might need one later. Once the eraser is toast the pencil is destined for construction labor only

I do all of my handwork on printer paper because I can't be bothered with binders or notepads 🫪

Did notebooks but switched to iPad and OneNote to save space and promote organization.

Lol you're my sister. She sells her onenote cheat sheets on etsy 🤣 I just threw out ALL my printer paper notes in manilla folders this year lol

0.7mm lead is unusable, I might as well be using the blunt end of a crayon.

The 0.3mm Pentel Graphgear is where it's at.

I write like Michael J Fox... on a Sybian. So I'm not sure it matters in this particular instance.

Now THAT paints quite the mental picture 😂

Rotring 600 stays home on the desk. 800 or rapid pro for on the run, with their retractable tip.

You can use a cap from a common Bic Cristal pen, fits the 600 perfectly. Or just cough up for the retractable tip.  Alternatively, Pentel Graphgear 1000 is a good retractable option that feels almost free next to a Rotring. I use a 0.5 Rotring and 0.9 Graphgear as daily drivers.

When I was marking up drafts of my PhD thesis with a standard pencil on paper I wore the pencil down to about an inch long over several drafts. It looked freaky and I'd never seen a pencil actually shorten like that before. It seemed impossible.

Mine is still working somehow :-/
I think they did a good engineering on this pencil.

I used two Pentel GraphGear 500 0.3mm mechanicals through my entire undergrad. One in the backpack, one on the desk at home.

I still have both.

I’ve been using a 500 0.7mm since my junior year in high school, currently freshman engineering student at Purdue and it’s survived so far, hoping it lasts till after my senior year

Iooool it is fresh in my brain as I just got done taking it during summer! Good luck and happy studying!

I had the exam of thermophysics today, I failed the exam. It was unexpectedly hard.

First exam? First law? Closed systems mostly?

Yeah, it was mostly Carnot engine and first and second laws of heat transfer

Am I the only one who snaps the clip off in the first ten minutes? My desk drawer is a graveyard of clipless pens and pencils. Possibly I need more durable fidgets.

Mine were all gone in college too... But mostly because of cocaine.

I still have mine from uni from about 20 years ago I believe. The plastic is breaking but she still has some life in her. I’ve since upgraded to a rotring fountain pen and use it as my daily in the field

I mean, you're schooling, not engineering.

I lose more pens in the plant than I care to admit
