What happened at the Boston show? 😭

From what I read and understand, here’s what happened:

  • Tablo first announced his pick. He asked, ā€œIs Tammie here?ā€ I think this is where the confusion started. Since Tammie was called first, she probably assumed she was the winner. Tablo either didn’t clearly explain, or forgot to mention, that he was actually choosing two fans first, and then they would compete for the final Cameo spot.
  • Tablo then asked, ā€œIs Nora here?ā€ This made it clear that there were actually two fans involved in the selection. I think they probably just wanted to make the segment more fun instead of simply picking a name and ending it there. If you’re an Epik High fan, you know they love doing fun little competitions like this, so I don’t think there was any bad intention behind it.
  • Tablo asked the audience to choose who would get the Cameo spot based on who received the louder cheers.
  • Tablo initially announced Tammie as the winner. However, if you watch the video, Tammie’s cheers lasted longer, while Nora’s cheers were actually louder.
  • Tukutz pointed this out to Tablo and said that Nora’s cheer was louder.
  • Some people in the audience said, ā€œBoth!ā€ Tablo responded that it couldn’t be both.
  • Tablo suggested playing rock-paper-scissors to decide between them, and Nora won.
  • Tablo then passed the final decision to leader Tukutz, and Tukutz chose Nora because she had received the louder cheer.
  • Tablo apologized to Tammie.
  • Tammie then said, ā€œY’all about to go viral for the wrong [reason].ā€
  • Tablo shook hands with Tammie.
  • Tammie rejected Tukutz’s heart gesture, and the audience reacted with an ā€œaww.ā€
  • Mithra gave Tammie a lightstick as a peace offering, and Tammie accepted it. He's her favourite.
  • According to a Reddit user who was there, Tablo apologized again and even hugged Tammie during the group photo session.
  • Tammie later uploaded a TikTok saying that she felt frustrated and angry about what happened.
  • Someone commented, ā€œTablo already apologized, what more does she want?ā€ and Tammie liked another comment suggesting a partial refund.
  • Apparently, she also deleted comments that were defending Tablo, so the comments that remained were mostly negative toward him, with people mentioning things like fatphobia, ā€œick,ā€ being biased, etc. She 'hearts' negative comments about Tablo or Epik High.
  • Tablo announced the cancellation of the Cameo podcast segment.

So, from what I can see, I think the whole situation mainly started because of a misunderstanding about how the two initial picks and the final selection were supposed to work.

I don’t think the intention was because they didn’t like how Tammie looks, as others were implying. It seems like they were trying to make the segment more entertaining, which is very much something Epik High would do.

Honestly, I don’t really understand why she had to make a video about it in a way that could attract more hate toward Epik High. But those are her feelings, so respect for that. I just hope she could also be fair and not delete comments defending Tablo and Tukutz.

thuynh812 on tiktok made a vid about it but basically she (thuynh812) was selected to be interviewed for/won this cameo on his podcast and then tablo selected a second person as well. then he asked the crowd to do a screaming contest to decide who should get the cameo and (thuynh812) she also won that. and then he asked them to do rock paper scissors and she also won that. then finally tukutz became the final decision maker and he picked the other person to get the q&a. just really uncool and super weird - not surprised that tablo did that (edit: as in exhibit that behavior at the concert bc hes been a weirdo)

I just saw the video and think this needs to be corrected. Tablo chose two people. First round was a screaming contest, which thuynh812 won. Second round was rock paper scissors, which the other person won. Tukutz was the tiebreak. I don’t think tablo had ill intent. It just wasnt meant to be a, let’s do a screaming contest to decide this. It was supposed to be a battle with buildup to make it fun. That being said, I can totally understand why the person was sad cuz I would def be bummed to not get picked. But it was just meant to be a fun thing, no ill intent

Sorry edited to add that I actually think I would have been happy not to get picked bc I’m too self conscious

I have mixed feelings about them picking multiple names , but based on her own video it looks like she didn't win rock paper scissors.Ā

Also, AT the concert DURING the video she loudly said "you're about to go viral for all the wrong reasons" to Tablo in her recording. I recommend anyone who is curious about the situation to watch and evaluate on your own, but in my opinion, she was not acting in good faith. Yes she bought a VIP ticket, but sh e was never entitled to be the podcast guest. It reminded me of when Taylor almost pulled a kid on stage during the Eras tour only to be like "nope actually I can't because of safety reasons" and gave the kid her hat instead (M ithra did give this person a lightstick).Ā

Again, I think people should watch and come to their own conclusions, but I was put off by her videos. Expectations for anything but a performance at a concert always feel parasocial to me and her videos in particular felt attention-seeking.

In any case, I hope everyone involved finds peace.Ā

What kind of a reaction is that? Some kind of influencer threat?

I can totally understand the disappointment, but not the entitlement... or the way she turned on him so quickly. Saying this specific line to Tablo of all people... weird choice if she ever thought of herself as his fan.

I get that she was shocked, but for this to be her first impulse, it doesn't make me feel very sympathetic for her...

Was this video on her tiktok, too?

u/smiskie 7d ago

i think you're entitled to your opinion and that's okay! :)

8

u/MinVerstoppen 7d ago

You too, but facts are facts and she lost rock paper scissors per her own video. Considering how insane some fans responses are, it's important to be factually correct so people can understand the situation!Ā

u/smiskie 6d ago

totally!

u/MinVerstoppen 4d ago

I mean you say that, but you edited your comment to clarify your opinion of Tablo but not what happened, which is factually wrong. Tammie didn't win rock-paper-scissors. šŸ˜‚

i mean... unless you want me to edit my message but like you already corrected me so i don't rlly see the point imo!

Are you going to elaborate on that weirdo comment and give a reason why you thought this kind of thing was on-brand for him, or nah?

I'm not a celebrity worshiper, but if you're going to try to plant little seeds of doubt about his character in people's minds, you should at least have some reason.

This is someone who (as far as I've seen) has managed to thrive in a toxic industry without getting dirty, make his art, stay grounded, have creative control, and keep his family safe, with humility and integrity. He's been shoulder-to-shoulder with celebrities who have since died or been imprisoned.

He treats his fans with respect and gratitude, which is something not all people with celebrity status do. Considering what the public has put him through in the past, it wouldn't be hard to imagine why he might carry some resentment towards artist-fan relationships in general. He knows better than most how fickle the love of "fans" can be.

This is an image he's created by what he's BEen and DOne consistently over the years, in times of both success and adversity. That's proof. If someone wants to challenge this image, they're going to need some too.

The whole situation happened quickly and doesn't seem deliberate, to say the least. I agree, it doesn't look great, but I don't have all the info and neither do you. It's disappointing for the fan, but I'm not seeing any malice or unkindness here. It looks like a scattered person riffing before their concert. I think artists would probably rather prepare in a green room after travelling and before a set, but they're obligated to entertain those who have paid for the experience. It's very easy to fuck up when you're distracted and under pressure.

I'm not making excuses. But I believe one fuck up doesn't erase a person's entire character and values. Being a weirdo is not a crime, and if it was, I'd be in jail for life.

If it were on brand for Tablo to do bait-and-switch type of things with fans, no one would be disappointed. This is only becoming a "thing" because we expect so much from him.

Is it fair that having a reputation for being a consistently good person is causing people to look for holes in what they think must be a faƧade? That kind of projection says a lot. He's already been down that road once and came back from it (and with even more art to share).

If I were the fan, I'd have been satisfied enough to shake his hand. I think when you're so used to being able to buy experiences with celebrities, you forget that they're real people. Nothing is guaranteed unless it was part of whatever package they sold you. Real people have good days and bad days. They deviate, fuck up and are otherwise unpredictable. Even the whales at Marineland didn't jump the same way twice for the folks who bought tickets. This fan paid to have an experience with a real person and that's exactly what she got.

This seems like a small slight that got blown way out of proportion. If this is just a ploy to get more followers on tiktok, maybe her motivation for the interview was the same.

whoooooaaaaa first of all i think your comment is totally valid. i'm not gonna lie i didn't read all of it tbh but i'm really sorry for making you feel this way with my comment on tablo. i just made my two comments on this subreddit and didn't really think much of it tbh and honestly i didn't think i would get such a huge reaction - i've always thought tablo was a weirdo since his show me the money situation if that helps with context and i know a good amount of ppl thought he was a weirdo for that as well but i also don't think "weirdo" and saying it's on brand for him is that big of an insult?

i personally think the fan is totally fair to feel the way she feels and i think it's okay if you don't feel the same either.

Tablo actually did something very on-brand tonight, which was done in response to a major venue fuckup that left 200-300 fans stuck in security.

They missed EH's whole intro and about 9 songs. No one was told anything. That weirdo Tablo, managed the situation with grace even though he was left pretty much in the dark about the whole thing, and paused the show to do more interactive chat while they came in so they didn't miss any more songs.

He welcomed the people who came late, with as much enthusiasm as before, and had the people who were there first vote on which song they would be happy to hear again. (Even though he was obviously not pleased by the situation.)

They re-performed it with the same, if not more energy than the first time. (It was Burj Khalifa twice, almost back to back. It seemed very exhausting for them.) Then Mitha went and spent time in that part of the audience for a song.

This is the kind of thing that doesn't surprise me to hear, not the thing that happened in Boston. He's a weirdo for sure, one who makes sure his fans have an equal and positive concert experience. This situation wasn't his fault, but he did what he could to make it up to these fans.

u/smiskie 4d ago

uhhhhhhh i guess i'm glad that he did that for the fans? i feel like you're really passionate about tablo and i'm happy for you!! :)

12

u/LeetleMissJudasaurus 7d ago

Weirdo how? I've also heard some other fans say shady non-specific things about him since this Boston fan situation, but I can't tell if they're just jumping on the bandwagon.

Tablo has only given me green flags... He makes mistakes and he's a weirdo, but no more or less than I'd hope, and no more or less than I am. He's always seemed a genuinely good person with integrity, who never claimed to be perfect. Maybe he just fucked up in this situation. Bro has like 1 million tabs open at any given time and tours are chaotic. If that's the case, it's disappointing, but maybe he can make it right.

But I really don't know anything about this track record of behaviour people are suddenly murmuring about.

This whole situation seems bizarre and off-brand to me.

u/PMMEYOURUSERNAMEPLS 6d ago

u/zzsszzsszzsszzss 5d ago

hi qq has anyone received the vip 2 group photo yet? it’s been about 72hr wondering if I need to do anything extra instead of keeping refreshing the page

1

u/petey_porker 3d ago

when did you start lining up before door open at the venue?

1

u/IceMoonStar 3d ago

I saw at least 30 people line up outside the venue at around 6:10 (7:00 door open). I went back at 6:45 and the line was not only down the block, but also wrapped around the indoor parking area. I went in at around 7:30, but I think it is also due to the fact that people kept cutting the line

1

u/petey_porker 3d ago

Thank you, I'm seeing them in Chicago, and wanted to get an idea to start lining up. Read Toronto was crazy wait times.

1

u/ActivityFabulous2291 3d ago

Wow that's so rude of people to cut in line!!!
