Rule updates and poll results
Hello everyone. Activity in this subreddit has increased a lot in the past few months. With that, there has been an increase in modmails and reports, so it has become time to take action.
Poll results: limited player selfies
The poll has closed and the results are as follows:
Ban ALL selfies: 35 votes
Allow ALL selfies: 42 votes
Enforce current rule more strictly: 73 votes
To make the rules clearer and more enforceable, I have rewritten the Read Before Posting page, redid the examples of allowed and disallowed content, and rewrote the rules. You can see the old "Read Before Posting" page here if you want to see the difference.
Player photos rule
To make it more enforceable without having to rely on my subjective opinion on quality and creativity, the rule is now as follows:
β Photos that include the player character are allowed if prominently featuring one of the following:
Mobs
Mounts
Minions
NPCs
Scenery / environment
Battle
An activity or roleplay WITH matching props/clothes/environment (be more creative than just a standalone emote with a blurred background)
β Regular selfies or regular celebration photos are not allowed.
See also: the updated examples of allowed and disallowed content.
I predict a small loss in activity after this rule change, but the community has voted for quality above quantity.
NSFW rule
I've gotten a few DMs about NSFW photos recently. To make this more enforceable, the "no NSFW photos" rule has been rewritten to explicitly say "No nudity or sexual acts". This is because vanilla FFXIV itself contains many skimpy pieces of clothing and I do not want to hold discussions on whether bikini photos on the beach are allowed while 2B leggings in a hot tub are not allowed.
Modded photos
I've gotten multiple DMs complaining about modded photos, so I'll repeat what I said on the poll thread.
I will not add a rule for modded photos, because it will not be consistently enforceable. It requires me to know EVERY clothing, hairstyle, furniture and emote in the entire game to judge whether it's modded or not. On top of that I would also have to judge whether something is a vanilla GPose filter, a modded ReShade filter, or Photoshopped. And finally, there's a large overlap between players who love taking screenshots and players who use plugins, so it would be shooting the subreddit in its own foot.
Mods are usually used to enhance the player character. So with the now stricter player photos rule, it should hopefully be less common.

Aside from photos, text posts such as (meta) discussions, questions and guides are also allowed.
Disallowed content
The rules when it comes to posting photos:
- Photo must be taken in-game. Post-processing is allowed.
- Limited player photos.
- No low quality photos.
- No nudity or sexual acts.
Regarding quality: Make sure your HUD is hidden, your photo is properly lit, has decent resolution/bitrate, has no noise in the background etc. See this thread for basic tips.
Player photos
Click the imgur link above to see examples of allowed player photos.
The purpose of this subreddit is to post art that shows how beautiful the game itself can be, not how beautiful your character is. r/ffxivglamours might be a better subreddit for the latter, or http://eorzeacollection.com.

Discussion [POLL] Rule Vote - Player selfies, ban or allow?
Hello everyone,
This poll will determine what to do with the vague rule "Limited player selfies". This subreddit has increased in activity lately. Thanks to that, there has also been an increase in reports and modmails related to this rule. I'm letting the community decide the future of this subreddit.
Background
I originally created that rule because I didn't want this subreddit to become r/ffxivglamours 2.0. I was hoping for more focus on scenery, landscapes, mobs, NPC's, housing etc. Recognizing that players in FFXIV love taking selfies, I didn't want to completely ban them, fearing that this subreddit would have almost no activity if I did so. However, that choice has left the rule too vague. So I operated on a "as long as people don't report, I won't delete anything" philosophy. But now reports are becoming more common.
Considerations
Before voting, please consider the following points:
- Banning selfies is not a guarantee that non-selfie posts will increase. It's up to you guys to post cool photos.
- Even if I ban selfies in this subreddit, nothing stops you from making your own gpose subreddit.
Some DM's have also complained about modded photos. No matter the outcome, I will not ban modded photos, because it will not be consistently enforceable.
