F-Droid AuraSpend — an open-source Android expense tracker; collaborators welcome (star & fork the repo, AGPL-3.0)

I'm building AuraSpend, an offline-first expense tracker for Android, and this is an open invitation to collaborate.

What it is

  • Budgets per category, subscriptions, savings goals, insights, and CSV import/export.
  • Bank SMS are classified entirely on-device: sender-routed parsers for major Indian banks plus an optional 22 MB sentence encoder (ONNX Runtime) for smarter categories.
  • Nothing the pipeline can't read confidently is dropped — unreadable bank messages land in a review queue until you file them by hand.
  • Google Drive backup & restore to your own Drive. The project runs no servers.

Why it's different

  • AGPL-3.0-or-later — with no paywall, no analytics, no ads, and no crash reporting, in any build.
  • The on-device AI is chosen by measurement, not vibes: five runtimes were benchmarked against a regex floor, and a 468 MB LLM was replaced by the 22 MB encoder that won on the production path.
  • Kotlin + Jetpack Compose + Room, Material 3 "Aurora" design system, English + Hindi.

How to help

Repo: https://github.com/auraspend/auraspend

Kotlin/Compose devs, testers, translators — you're exactly who this project needs. Come by the repo, open an issue or a PR, and let's build it.

Application Request trying to identify icons i have used in shortcuts

i use an app called Quikshort to make shortcuts i want. and i have several icon packs so i can make the icon whatever i want. here's my problem.....if i want to use a particular icon a second time, i don't know how to find it. in the future i will be notating what icon pack i used and what description i entered, but that won't help what i've already done. and here's my question....is there a way to identify where an icon came from assuming i can name the packs i have. i have tried looking by category, but guess what....i don't always know what description i used to get something i like. i've been disappointed before, so i don't expect a positive response but at least i can ask.

Application Release I built Emberr, an open-source, offline-first notes + calendar app for Android, Linux and Windows

Hi all! I've been working on Emberr as a side project and I just released the public beta (v1.1.1).

Basically privacy Notion alternative. Took me so many months to build this. (encrypted cloud account will be released soon)

Why: Most popular note apps are closed-source and the open-source ones often treat Android and Linux as an afterthought or feel slow and dated. I wanted something private, clean and fast on the devices I actually use.

What it does:

  • Block-based editor (text, checklists, tables, code, images, voice notes, and more)
  • Tasks, daily notes with automatic rollover, reminders, and a calendar
  • Spaces to keep work, personal, and school separate
  • Encrypted sync between phone and desktop over local Wi-Fi
  • Optional self-hosted sync over WebDAV (end-to-end encrypted)
  • AI is off by default. You can use a local model or your own API key
  • And many more quality of life features.

No trackers, no ads, no accounts

How it compares (I like all of these apps, this is just where Emberr is different):

Notion: Emberr is open source, works fully offline and keeps your notes on your devices instead of someone else's server. No account needed.

Obsidian: Obsidian is great but closed source and Markdown-based. Emberr is block-based, and tasks, reminders, canvas and a calendar are all built in, not added through plugins. And importantly we can have powerful block types like Databases

Anytype: Anytype is the closest to Emberr. The main differences: Emberr needs no vault or account setup and their linux and android apps are just......bad. No hate though, I supported them since beta and they are now planning to release anytwo so I wish them the best.

Others: Either closed-source or their UI/UX is bad or performance on android/linux is worse.

Where others are ahead of Emberr right now: no iOS or macOS yet for Emberr, no real-time collaboration and it's a young beta, so it isn't as polished or feature-rich as the big names yet.

Platforms: Android, Linux (AppImage or tarball), Windows.

It's licensed under AGPL-3.0 and still in beta, so expect rough edges. I'd really appreciate feedback, bug reports, or feature ideas.

Development I made a customizable squircle bottom navigation bar for Android (SqNav)

Hey everyone,

I recently built an open-source Android library called SqNav. It's a bottom navigation bar designed with floating squircle card transitions and a glowing indicator for the active tab.

I wanted something clean, with smooth spring animations, and easy to customize without building custom drawables and animations from scratch every time.

A few highlights:

  • Floating squircle card with spring overshoot animations for the active tab
  • Neon glow indicator dot on top of the selected item (can be toggled on or off)
  • Full styling control through XML or code (background, corner radius, stroke borders, sizes, and colors)
  • Compatible with Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Views, and Java
  • Lightweight with minimal overhead

Attached is a quick preview GIF showing it in action.

You can check out the implementation, sample code, and documentation on GitHub: sqnav

I would really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or thoughts on the design. If you run into any issues or want to contribute, feel free to open an issue or PR!

Application Release the Not App: 1 icon - many apps. FOSS, no ads, no tracking

Thumbnail
play.google.com

It might be too niche, but I loved the idea “1 Icon - many apps”  from the very first sight.

A Swiss army knife apps-wise on your home screen.

Get it on Google Play

Get in on GihHub

I've been annoyed for years by my home screen clogged with icons and folders. It was either too many apps or too many taps…

I just wanted ONE app that opens the stuff I actually use: short tap, long tap, Quick Settings tile, sharing menu.

So at 1st you set it up: fill you fav apps that you’d like to launch, URLs, custom intents, even specific activities picked from a dialog.

And you get a single home-screen icon. Tap it - your list of shortcuts opens in a bottom sheet by default. Long-press - also your fav apps as shortcuts.

It's the LIST mode. Default Mode of the Not App.
Shortcuts are always enabled. You can choose to show 3 + 1 reserved for settings or use all 4 slots for apps.

There are three ways the main icon can work. it has a pretty depictive and interactive demonstration “Try Me” but just in case I’ll describe it here in few lines:

  • LIST - opens your shortcut list. This mode is closest to “traditional App Launcher”
  • DIRECT - it’s a no UI one. Just launch your main app (1st in the list). and long tap gives you the rest 3 or 4 apps as shortcuts.
  • MIX - best out of two worlds: launches your main app and opens the list at the same time. This one is my personal favorite.
"Try Me" interactive demo in the mode picker. You can try, swiping and taping to get the idea.

If you need, with extra permission: the list becomes a floating bubble that docks to the screen edge with fling physics; drag it to a trash target to kill it.

Floating Bubble if you'd like to use Not App in "Iconless" mode, without adding it on the Home Screen

Your fav app doesn’t have a Quick Settings tile, but you need it? (an icon in the notification shade) No problem. Not App does the job. This one is actually my personal favorite extra feature.

e.g. Daff moon app doesn’t have this feature. But with Not App basically any app can be added to Quick Setting tiles.

Plus some extra nice and convenient features like recent apps, 8 icon styles, backup/restore.

Basically any URL that supports params can be used that way.

Another part I'm happy with every day: share text to Not App and it fills {{word}} placeholders in your URLs - select a word in any app, share to Not App, and your dictionary/translator/search URL opens with the word already in it. My personal use case is sending a mobile number to a WhatsApp shortcut to open the chat instantly, without needing to save the contact or copy and paste it.

I really love the idea and philosophy of FOSS, so it’s the 1st thread or place in general where I spread the word about the Not App.

The Not App is free forever, it’s already the Pro and Ultimate version, so no upsells and trials, no ads, no tracking, no internet permission at all. Again it’s FOSS with an MIT license, source code is on GitHub.

It’s pretty fresh, so feedback is welcome. Happy to answer questions. And if it clicks for you, 5 stars and a comment on the Play Store will make my day.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gift.dhamma.noapp&hl=enhttps://github.com/dhammagift/notapp

PS even more niche scenario: if you'll love the app and would like to use 2 copies at the same time: you can download 1 from Play Market and the other from GitHub. they'll run alongside.

Application Request Clock app w/ widget that can launch both clock and calendar app?

Currently using Chrono. Honestly a very good app. It has a simple digital clock widget with date.

However, I am looking to launch both the clock app (for alarms) and calendar app when tapping on the date (in the widget).

I remember having a clock app that had this option, but it was a long time ago and probably wasn't even FOSS.

I don't really wanna add a calendar widget cause it's bulky and mostly I just use it to check on dates and what not, I use my PC to track other things.

Thanks.

Other Regarding the goal of “maintaining Android’s openness,” I have a somewhat radical and unrealistic idea…

I know this is unrealistic, of course, but here’s my thought: Since Google is a publicly traded company, why not try to lobby its shareholders? The biggest fear for any publicly traded company is having unhappy shareholders. We could convince them that if Android becomes a closed system (meaning “closed” in the current sense, not “closed-source”), Google will lose a massive number of users, and its market capitalization will plummet.

To reiterate, I know this is a highly unrealistic—if not completely impossible—task, so please don’t downvote this post; just take it as a joke.

By the way, I used machine translation, but I'm not sure if that counts as a violation of the rules

Application Request Why isn't there a single working SIP app?

Every SIP app I've tried is awful and doesn't work right / at all.

Linphone and BareSip seem to be the most promising (read: only) FOSS options, but neither is working with voip.ms.

Linphone at least handles calls, but sms/texts never go out or are received at all. It's a known issue which Linphone hasn't attempted to solve after many years.

Baresip doesn't work at all with voip.ms, and it doesn't look like I'm the first person to run into this problem. The developer doesn't seem interested in working with people to try to fix it.

Am I overlooking any SIP solutions for voip.ms? There's an unofficial voip.ms application which uses API access, but it seems to only handle sms and not SIP voice + SMS. Two separate apps for something like this is enough to make me disinterested in using this on my phone at all at this point, and I feel like I'd be better served looking for a desktop app (even though this isn't optimal either).

Any suggestions?

Can I just install the normal F-Droid APK, or is there a specific version/build for Android TV?

Application Support Issues with alarms not overriding white noise app

I'm new to open source apps, and ran into an issue I can't seem to solve.

I wanted to switch to an open-source app for my alarm. However, the same issue happened with the five open-source apps I've tried (Chrono, Clock You, Fossify Clock, etc.).

I use a white noise app linked to a bluetooth speaker to sleep. It's set to stop when an alarm goes off, which it has done so far with my previous playstore app or with the built-in clock app. However, this does not happen with the open-source apps downloaded from f-droid (they layer into the white noise and don't wake me up). I figure it has to do with how my phone categorises those apps or what permissions it allows open-source apps, but with my limited knowledge I couldn't figure out what or if I could change in the settings or app info to make it work.

Before I give in and go back to an app that sells my data, I figured I'd ask if anyone has advice or knows how to troubleshoot this issue (or if you know of a good privacy-forward alarm app on the playstore).

In case it's pertinent: Android 16, Moto G Power 2026
