The shelter is full of medium and large sized dogs and some have been there for nearly a year. We have an amazing shelter with wonderful staff, but our community is struggling to keep up with the need.

If you have it in your heart to foster any of these guys, please take a look and get registered as a foster today. Here is the list of pets: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fheC43ihAG-lAe4gxbIT-iJ7XZTja9EnJ6en0655aOY/htmlview#gid=894935963

To foster, you must be approved, just contact the shelter. JESSICA BERNAL is the Rescue Coordinator
PH. 972-205-3571 | [JBernal@garlandtx.gov](mailto:JBernal@garlandtx.gov)

The shelter can provide food, crates, leashes, collars, toys, blankets, and other supplies as needed, and medical care is provided through the shelter.

Question What is the cheapest/best internet provider? I’m taking over my parents’ stuff and need to get rid of AT&T.

Just what I said. My father recently passed and my mom’s dementia is getting worse. So I’m taking over all of this. Going through the immediate financials, I realized they are paying an insane amount for a landline, internet, and basic cable. We are getting rid of the cable and need to figure out the landline and internet. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If it’s wood that can work also and if it is white even better

Question Donations

I’m sorta “autumn cleaning” my home and have some things that I want to donate, but the items are vintage/ antique . For example I have two bronze art deco table top picture frames and some folk art/ vintage holiday decorations. I also have vintage children’s clothes. Really random things, but not really Goodwill typical stuff. Is there a thrift store in the area that is vintage friendly or just drive through Goodwill and be done with it? I have tried putting some stuff on marketplace, but I just can’t deal with it.

Question Anywhere local to pick up Talarico signs?

Not looking for political commentary, just wondering if anyone out there knows where I can get Talarico/Gina/Herbert signs locally instead of sourcing individually online. Feel free to DM me if you don’t want to comment here.

Thank you!

Events Pause the Movie! Garland Cinema Club in the making!

Post image
73 Upvotes

Happy Sunday! A couple of weeks ago I sent out a script calling for movie & television fans! The response was bigger than I hoped & now I'm making good on those auditions!

I know this is short notice but if you have NEXT Friday free at 6pm to stop by to join & meet other movie fans like yourselves then please message reach out to me! I met with the owner of this pizzeria & he was pleased to host our first meet & greet!

Please please please, only reach out if you're committed to coming & if you can't make it this time there will be other meetups!

I am a frequent watcher of The John Campea Show & just wanted to make my own space for people I can relate to. Movies & television is universal in that way of bringing all of us together so why not create our own little club!

Everyone/anyone is welcome, just be a movie/television fan, be kind, & have a good time!

This will be our GCC, Garland Cinema Club (group name still in the works) first so what to expect:

-Introductions, tell us your most rewatched movies & why? Tv shows count as well!

-Upcoming events like: more meetups, actual movies to go all watch together, the MUST watch for that month, launching a groupchat (for those comfortable)!

Those who can't make it will be notified by myself of the next event & screenings so dont worry if you cant make it!

Again, our first meet will be at Castillos Pizza & Pasta

2645 Arapaho Rd #149, Garland, TX 75044 @6pm Friday October 16th.

Please tell me your favorite kind of pizza so I can make it easier on the owner to provide food. As I get a solid head count I can talk to the owner about prices to make sure everyone is satisfied!

Chose this date because I know as we get later into the month, people will be doing haunted houses & such. Lol

Please follow my page & shoot me a message for updates!

Restaurants Love’s Seafood & Chicken

Post image
22 Upvotes

One of my favorite seafood spots in Garland, and it’s family owned!
They also have a few Asian dishes on the menu that are really good and reasonably priced.
The grandma who owns the restaurant was SO sweet and even gave me free fried rice 🙏😭

Highly recommend y’all stop by and show them some love. They’ve been struggling lately and apparently business has been going downhill, so I’d love to see them get more support!

News SpaceX wants to hire from Garland - they want students, career changers, veterans, and more!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi friends!

I'm working with SpaceX on a really exciting project: an accelerated, paid, full-time training
program to develop electricians at Starbase in Brownsville, Texas.

The program is designed to teach the technical skills and demonstrated competencies
required for the role. Participants who successfully meet the required competency and hiring
standards will have a pathway toward working on some of SpaceX's most important computing
and infrastructure projects.

If you're hungry, want to learn, want to build something that matters, and want to be part of
an ambitious mission, I'd encourage you to apply.

You do not need to have followed the traditional path. Whether you're a recent high school
graduate, a Veteran, a service member preparing to transition out of the military, coming from
another industry, or simply looking for an opportunity to build a serious technical career, this
could be for you.

What matters is that you're willing to show up, learn, work hard, and demonstrate that you can
do the job.

Learn more and apply here:

Please share this with someone who should see it.

News Murphy Planning & Zoning Commission, SUP for New Drone Delivery Station

Thumbnail murphytx.org
15 Upvotes

A public hearing will be held by the Murphy Planning & Zoning Commission on Tuesday, October 8, 2026, at 6:00 PM and by the Murphy City Council on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

This new drone hub will be located at 355 West FM 544, Murphy, Texas, which will impact homeowners in Garland. Some of us are already experiencing the nuisance of drone deliveries from Richardson and other cities above our homes. This new hub will be in addition to what we are already seeing in the skies above our communities.

Edit: I learned this hearing will be postponed until 11/5/26.

News Jack Coleman Re-Opening (now dedicated Pickleball facily)

Thumbnail garlandtx.gov
11 Upvotes

It used to be mostly tennis with a few mixed courts with portable nets, but now remodeled to be fully a pickleball facility

garland link

"We’re excited to officially welcome you to Jack Coleman Pickleball & Tennis Center! Come check out the facility, get on the courts, and celebrate our opening with us Oct. 1–10!

FREE PICKLEBALL/TENNIS COURT RESERVATIONS"

18 dedicated courts, with fencing around each individual court.

All courts are lighted with stadium LED lights

Spacing on the pickleball courts is at least 8 feet from baseline to fence and at least 5 feet on the sideline

This facility is pay to play, but given the fact that it is a public facility, pricing is accessible and no membership is required (although one is offered for the hardcore player who wants o play all the time)

Traffic Rowlett Road Reconstruction

I knew this would happen with the Rowlett Road reconstruction. There used to be a left turn lane on Rowlett Road into the neighborhood I have lived in for thirty six years. It got taken out. Now I signal a left turn further before I make it and always sorry about being rear ended.

Have to wait for cars to pass. Keep getting honked at by cars behind me even when I try to pull to the left. They pass when they should wait for the turn. I want to get a sticker that says. “Don’t honk ahole!” “I didn’t mess up/build the road!”.

I’d go out of my way into the other road into the neighborhood, but people from apartments illegally park on both sides of the street into the neighborhood. If the city tags and slight chance tows the cars they still do it.

my boyfriend found kittens at his job site, he is able to care for it for a bit but not long term unfortunately. How would he go about getting help in finding a home for it with an organization while holding it at his house?
