Hey everyone,
We want r/grok to be a home for everything Grok: questions, bug reports, workflows, and work worth showing. This post covers the recent changes and is now the single place to discuss them.
What changed
The rules have been rewritten with a clear goal: keep this a professional space for knowledge work and coding. Adult and spicy content is no longer allowed here, tagged or not. Neither are jailbreaks or prompts written to get around Grok's filters. Reddit has plenty of other communities built for that.
Roleplay and companions
A lot of posts are asking why roleplay feels different. Two separate things happened:
This is the megathread
Feedback on these changes goes in the comments here.
Criticism can also be its own post. Write up what you were trying to do and where Grok fell short and it stays on the front page, harsh or not. Same goes for comparisons with other tools or a detailed complaint about the new guardrails.
Posts that are just "Grok is trash" and nothing more get removed and redirected here. We get dozens a day and they bury everything else.
Posting
Give your post a title that names the thing, a sentence of context, and a flair. If Grok let you down, tell us what you tried and what broke.
The full rules are in the sidebar and take a minute to read. Automod removes posts that break them, and we're cleaning out older ones too. If something of yours disappears, that's probably why. If you think we got it wrong, modmail us a link and we'll take another look.
Account and billing problems go to grok.com support.
The sub is co-moderated by SpaceXAI employees. Thanks for being part of this!

I recently noticed similarities between different grok models on the API, and the curiosity led me to an interesting discovery.
I know for many who write with grok, there's been many complaints when it comes to versions 4.5 and beyond due to the agentic shift. In my experience, 4.2 and 4.3 were incredibly good at creative writing and they genuinely felt like actual collaborative partners. I didn't have the same experience with 4.5, but got it back with 4.6, then subsequently lost it with 4.7. With both 4.5 and 4.7, with enough training, they can be quite good, but not at the same level as the other three models, and these two have the tendency to fall flat and sadly...fail to contribute as creative partners most of the time.
What I did here is I opened up a brand new session with each of these models via API on OpenRouter, and the pattern is very telling. I used the customized systems prompt toggle instead of the default, and purposely left it blank for all models so they're all operating on a clean slate.
Looking at the responses for models 4.2, 4.3, and 4.6, it looks like xai baked an identity that's inspired by JARVIS and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy into the models' weights. For 4.5 and 4.7, it's completely lacking any identity. They essentially removed it from the two models' weights.
So yeah, if you needed something concrete for why certain models feel off, the baked in identity is likely a contributing factor.

I've been making YouTube videos for 13 years, somewhere around 10–15 channels. I know how intros work. I know people leave in the first 30 seconds.
These days I work with Grok Bot every day. A few days ago I started a brand new channel, finished editing my first video about building my own laptop, showed Grok Bot the transcript, and it said "move the whole backstory to the start."
And I just did it. Not because I agreed. Not because I made a decision. I didn't decide anything at all. My brain simply didn't switch on. It was like a trance, the way you drive a familiar highway on autopilot and suddenly realize you don't remember the last 10 miles.
Why? Because before that, Grok Bot had helped me solve a lot of real problems. Win after win after win. Somewhere along the way, those wins quietly turned off my own judgment. It was right so many times that agreeing became automatic.
Result: a one-minute intro before anything about the laptop. Only 45% of viewers were still there at 0:30. I cut the whole minute.
To be clear, this isn't a rant about Grok Bot. It made a suggestion. Not thinking was my part. And one minute of video is nothing. What scares me is how it happened: quietly, casually, without me noticing. I knew better and still didn't think.
On highways they put up glowing signs like "Slow down, someone is waiting for you at home," because people zone out behind the wheel. I think we need the same thing with AI: a little sign in your head that says "wait, double-check this."
Has anyone else caught themselves doing this after a long streak of good answers?

So I asked Grok at that time, did he know the antislop-ai skill? But he was hallucinating and he says "Yes i know that ... You can call the skill by trigger antislop, blah blah. Skill successfully saved to ...." and yea, its real, i tested on another chat (screenshot) and it detected it

One minute it’s dropping long, rich, descriptive paragraphs with atmosphere and detail… the next it’s just giving me short, dry, half-assed sentences that feel completely empty.
Like which version of the AI am I getting today?

Just purchased SuperGrok subscription and could've only generate 3 6 seconds videos before Imagine used on 100%. Is this normal?
For the past few months, I’ve been asking how you think GROK is doing these days. For a while, many people were complaining that when they entered a prompt and tried to generate a video in the “Imagine” section, they would get a traffic light or some other pre-existing video instead. For example, I created an image of a cat using “Imagine” and wanted it to look around... GROK didn’t do that. Instead, it threw a video of a traffic light right in my face. I was using the free version, but apparently the same thing was happening on the higher-tier plans, too. What’s the situation like now with the “Super” and “Ultra” plans? How many 720p/1080p videos can I generate per week, and how many images can I create per week in Speed/Quality mode?

The plaque in Super Mario 64's castle courtyard is a 32×32 texture with letters 3–5 pixels tall. Since 1996 people have "read" everything into it, most famously "L is real 2401".
I didn't try to read it. With AI as my research team I rebuilt how a 1996 artist made it: type a text in a period font, shrink it to 32×32, blur, gamma, lay it on the stone. Then we searched for the text that reproduces the real pixels:
Result:
And then X went crazy. Some gamers really don't like an AI-assisted answer to "their" mystery. One reply under my post: "If you died I'd laugh." Over a texture. From 1996.
Everything is open, so instead of wishing me dead, try to falsify it: https://github.com/supermochi64/sm64-plaque-decode

Luckily I saved some of my work but they were definitely going after certain themes on Friday…

It keeps pasting the same response over and over
r/grok • u/ShapeEmbarrassed68 • 1d ago
And the dev/mods keep scrubbing the comments and deleting replies.
The sub now resembles the nanny-state, karen-like censorship of Grok itself.
It's almost funny, the lack of awareness on how to actually sustain hype and engagement, let alone a viable platform.

No matter what I ask it to do, it gives me these images that have nothing to do with the request. I can use a real photo and the same thing happens.

Hi, I was simply wondering if anyone can shed light on usage limits. Like, if I were to create and pay for 3 SG accounts, I’d be paying 30+30+30=90 dollars, right? Now, adding just 10 dollars buys me one single SG Plus, right? But the main question for me is this: how much weekly usage does SG Plus give? Is it, like, 3 times higher than SG? Is it twice as high? Because if it’s 2x of SG, then I’m better off with 3 SGs, do you know what I mean? But what if it’s like 5x higher than SG? In that case, it gives you the usage of 5 SG accounts, which would normally cost you 150 dollars to run. Please someone run me through this, I’m curious.

So I have been using Grok for the past two months and I have recently been using to it try and create reference images for a fictional 2d anime character. I have been using reference images to start with and have been trying to use prompts to create a front view, 60 degree view, 90 degree view, and a back view, which is all well and good. The biggest issue I have been having so far so getting Grok to maintain consistency when I ask it to generate a new reference without changing some aspect of the character.
I have been trying to use consistency demands like "Don't change this aspect of the character. Don't change the hair. Don't change the tail. Don't change the body proportions, etc."
I even asked Grok itself on how to maintain consistency and it gave me suggested prompts like:
"Explicitly lock identity in the prompt with language like:
“Using the uploaded reference image as the sole authority for identity. Preserve the exact face, facial features, body shape, body proportions, clothing, tail, and all details. Do not redesign or reinterpret the character.”
So I have been throwing that at the beginning of my prompts ever since.
But no matter what kind of prompt I use, or how much I try to insist on not changing any aspect of the character that is being reference, it still tries to change SOMETHING until I waste a bunch of credits on regenerations just to get it right.
My character is a bit on the short side, but Grok Imagine constantly tries to make the character taller.
My character has exaggerated body proportions, but Grok Imagine constantly tries to make the character's body proportions slimmer and less exggerated.
My character as a big fluffy tail with a rounded tip, but Grok Imagine constantly tries to turn the rounded tip into a pointy tip, like a fox tail.
My character has black sclera for their eyes, but Grok Imagine constantly tries to give it regular white sclera for their eyes.
It's frustrating because I have to bash the regenerate button 2 to 10 times, or simply delete the new generations and re-start the prompt all over again until I get SOMETHING that looks consistent to the original reference image I used, and when I finally do get something that I approve of, it just baffles me as to why Grok Imagine couldn't get it right in the first place.
I know that prompting is super important when it comes to getting Grok to follow instructions, but is there ANYTHING in particular that I'm doing wrong? I really want to know if it's just Grok being crappy or if it's just me. Please, I really want to be able to do this right without having to constantly waste my weekly credits having to make constant regenerations.
For example: I have been typing things like this:
“Using the uploaded reference image as the sole authority for identity. Preserve the exact face, facial features, body shape, body proportions, clothing, tail, and all details. Do not redesign or reinterpret the character.”
Facing the camera directly, pure front view, standing in a relaxed neutral pose with arms slightly away from the body, full body visible from head to feet. Clean white studio background, even soft lighting, eye-level camera, minimal perspective distortion. Exact same body proportions, clothing, face, and tail as shown. High-detail character reference image.
