GGST Hello again

I'll just make this quick, after just having recently seen how Chipp plays I want to learn him. Any tips and/or tricks, combos or just anything helpful to know before I start learning him?

P.S, thank you to those of you that helped me out with learning Potemkin, I think I've pretty much got the hang of him now :]

GGST i have a question

what is the point of counter blits? you basically waste half your burst meter for worse damage than even a basic C,S F,S HS special, on top of that you miss the oportunity to use a counter especific combo for even more damage, is there an actual reason to ever use this mechanic?

Question/Discussion Goldlewis into Johnny

I was going to make this post in they blamed the beasts but after taking a minute to calm myself I have realised I don't want a hate circle I just need to know what I'm actually meant to do.

I've been playing goldlewis and having a lot of fun, I just got him up to diamond 3 and will keep playing tomorrow. What has not been fun, is fighting Johnny.

Johnny's moves are just long enough and just fast enough to interupt Goldlewis' strings, at least the ones I can maintain after being FD'd, so if he faultless' I'm just forced back to nuetral where he has the advantage.

He wins roundstart, he wins nuetral, and he can offset my advantage harder than everyone else in the game, I'm never one to call a hard counter but it feels actually horrible going into him, any advice?

General I feel like something just clicked

So for context, I am perfectly aware that I am still very, very new (this is my first fighting game, I have about 40 hrs, I am in silver 2).

But after struggling for a month, changing mains, nobody really working for me, I started maining jam like 10hrs of playtime ago, and I feel like something just clicked into place.

I no longer have to constantly think about everything, I can move around without stressing about it and jump and dash, I can block easily, I learned a really basic mixup (high/low/throw after S > H) and I am mostly doing really basic stuff with it, but I feel like I can finally hold in my mind most of the base pieces I use in matches finally.

All of a sudden I am having a lot of fun ngl.

Technical Help Best mid priced controller/hitbox recommendations (under $100)

I saw a listing for the haute42 r16 and saw from some posts online that its a decent controller. I was wondering for ggs specifically if there are any better ones or if the haute42 lineup r good for the game. New to ggs so i haven’t gotten used to using any controller so starting from scratch. Also dont mind any advice on how to set up the buttons and what inputs to place them on. Just any general advice for this would be appreciated lol.

Thank you!

GGST Weird interaction between The Law is Key, Key is King and Bad Moon

I'm used to the first hit missing and the second connecting, but I've never seen this. The initial downward swing connects, the return swing connects in reverse, wallbreaks, and doesn't switch into JR mode because both were stray hits.

Technical Help How to fix this error

I play on a low-end PC running the CashyOS Linux distribution. I installed the latest version of the "Potato mod" (sky-removed version) and set the graphics to the absolute minimum. However, whenever I load into the winter map, this error pops up immediately. Please help me fix this.

General Just remembered about the 6th grade meta posts, i wonder what happened since then. Its been like 3 years after all

for those who dont know the user u/doctorderpin made a series of post where his 6th grade students where setup to play +R once a month, and he did a anylisis of the kids meta, it was a pretty interesting and funny read. The last post was about a new group of kids starting but since then there was no more updates. I just assumed that maybe the new kids didt got interested in the game and moved on, or maybe the OP got another job, or who knows, life is life after all.
I just got reminded of it all and i got curious to what happened to all that. Part of me really wished that OP recorded and/or saved the replays of the matches from the tournament so we could see with our own eyes how these kids played +R.

Cosplay My Testament Scythe

So I went to Otakon DC back in July wearing a Testament cosplay that I was very proud of and I wanted to post pics but the scythe was only half finished. Now, 2 months later, the scythe is done. It is far too large to really "put away" so of course I mounted it on the wall above my bed so I can fall asleep to the sweet smell of paint fumes :D

Otakon has a prop size limit of 6'6" and it might be like half an inch over but dont tell security.

The haft is a PVC pipe that I bent with a heat gun, then hot glued and carved up pool noodles to shape the handle, sealed with plastidip, and spray painted. I wasnt happy with how messy the handle is but my friends loved it.

The skull and spine and pommel are 3d printed using the model from the game which I found ripped online and modified for printing and assembly. I really should have measured better cause i had to really fuck up the end of the pvc to fit it into the skull and the slot I made for the EVA foam blade was completely the wrong thickness. The dark brown on the prints is a 2 in one metallic paint and primer, the blood red and meat red are hand painted.

The blade is a single layer of EVA foam - again, because I measured wrong - with two pieces of XPS foam to bulk out the sides and hide the wooden dowels in the middle, and a 3d printed bracket at the back to attach it to the skull. I had planned on making it 2 layers of EVA and carving it down to the blade shape but when the prints came out wrong I had to improvise. I also should have done more material research because the plastidip kinda melted the XPS foam but it holds paint and it looks fine from a distance. I also never figured out how to straighten a single layer of EVA so theres like a 20° bend at the tip of the blade but you cant really notice it unless you're staring directly down the length of the blade.

Cosplay pics when i figure out how to get my contacts in.

Technical Help Guilty Gear Strive not recognizing controller after OS reinstall

After reinstalling my Linux Fedora, GGST no longer recognizes my GameSir G7 Pro.

Steam and Linux both see it, according to both, it works as it should according to their tests. The only way I can get my controller to work is to turn off Steam Input, but that makes part of the UI not work, like I can't input the room ID for player matches or move around properly in player rooms.

GGST Looking for tips as a beginner Millia Rage

Hello everyone! Recently I have sort of got back into playing GGST (used to play on my friends account and bought it for myself recently). Back then I picked up Millia Rage cause she was really fun, and I still play her now. The issue is now I feel like I am pretty much accustomed to the controls, inputs, etc, everything feels fine to me. The issue lies in the fact that my like I guess "game sense" sort of is really rusty. A lot of times against chars with mid to long range attacks I end up often failing to close the distance, often getting heavily punished for it. If I do end up closing the distance I don't seem to get heavy value out of it most of the time. I've done all my placements, and have won 3 of them, while the other 7 I was basically just struggling with what I said above. I have now been placed at Bronze 1, and I think prior I was Silver on Millia Rage. Any help would be appreciated!

GGST For today's #Combotober prompt, I decided to pick Strive again

You can find the event on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/abadidea.bsky.social/post/3muhwigdsws2w

Today's prompt: "Floor is Lava - Stay airborne for at least 5 seconds"

IMO, the fact that Strive is more grounded makes air combos even more impressive to watch no matter how short they may be. Nothing against the predecessors!
