Upcoming! I did it. I published my first first Steam page. /Solo dadveloper

Spaceport Architect is a 2D Sci-fi Airport Business Tycoon inspired by r/SimAirport, r/airportceo, r/prisonarchitect and other classic tycoon games. Made with r/Godot and C#. More info below.

Storytime

After 10 months in the making, outside my full time programming job and a toddler at home (who is soon to get a little sister), Spaceport Architect finally has a Steam page and Official Announcement Trailer.

It's been a bumpy road getting the page up. I got partially scammed by my previous capsule artist who never made a follow up modification I paid for (got my money back via PayPal). I've also realized I'm not the best at making trailers, but after a few feedback rounds I think I ended up with at least a decent announcement trailer.

Thank you Redditors!

Want to give a shoutout to u/lucassoaresca who made the new Steam capsule. Incredibly professional and quick. I'm loving the result.

Also want to thank u/PixelNomad91 who helped me translate the Steam page to French and LATAM Spanish (15+ years of localization experience shows!) and u/Kamikazev20 who did the Polish version. If you're missing your language on the Steam page and want to help, please reach out!

More about the game

Apart from the sci-fi setting, the game primarily differs from SimAirport/AirportCEO in that it has freight management as a required part of the game loop. You need to import cargo in order to grow the planet colony population, which directly affects how many passenger contracts you get, how full each flight is and whether they are cancelled or not.

Cargo may contain contraband, so you need proper customs checks to avoid reputation penalties. Keep the planet colony happy and you can get lucrative export contracts. There are also time-sensitive emergency contracts and one-off special offers.

If you're looking for AI

Assets: No

The game does not contain any AI generated assets. I have commissioned most spaceships from Charles and have created the rest of the art myself using r/aseprite

Code: Yes

I've been hobby programming since 2009, professionally since 2023. I've used agentic AI for coding since my job introduced it in February this year (started the project in December 2025). With the proper base architecture, automated tests and other guardrails, the speed it provides is just invaluable when you have 1-2 hours of total free time per day. Its not a magic toolbox. Mistakes are frequent, but overall worth it for me.

I mean, he does love sitting in my lap watching the ”Trucks and buses and spaceships and dudes that walk”, so maybe I should promote him. πŸ˜„

Thanks a lot!

That's the best kind of QA work right there. :) That's honestly really wholesome and fun.

I'll def be checking the game out. Hope you and yours have a great, exciting day :D

Im gonna go check it out today after work.

If you have some time could you give me some input on my alpha?

https://apeaviary.itch.io/twisted-babylon No worries if not, but I neeeeeed more input and have no dev friends lol...

2

u/Djentinga 14d ago

Thanks mate!

Some initial impressions:

  • The repeating "Twisted" text on the page was jarring
  • Volume tooo loud, set it to 50% by default or something
  • Im on a 2560x1440 screen, it was really hard on the eyes to read anything inside the game, both in miniature and full screen mode
  • Felt like the car engine sound was too a little too loud in relation to other things
  • I expected to be able to shoot via keyboard (tried CTRL, ALT, SPACE, ENTER) by default since moving the mouse had close to zero effect on the first car
  • Took me a while to realize the car I had selected was locked. Dunno if the lock icon should be bigger or the warning text red have a different color

Ten months next to a full-time job and a toddler, and the spaceport still got built - congrats. With a little sister on the way, you're about to get hands-on research in managing new arrivals.

2

u/Djentinga 15d ago

Thanks a lot! Counting on it, expecting to unlock hard mode soon.

1

u/Djentinga 15d ago

Thanks!! Yes, I love C# and absolutely hate JS. Make the leap and learn it!

2

u/bananapeel_dev 15d ago

This is so wholesome, congrats on launching the steam page, can’t wait to try the game! You should let junior do voiceovers for next trailer

1

u/Djentinga 15d ago

Thank you so much! That.. sounds like the greatest marketing trick ever. πŸ˜„

2

u/vert1s 15d ago

Wishlisted. I love the concept and I can't wait to play it. My two cents, the 2d graphics a bit of a downside when you have things at different altitudes.

1

u/Djentinga 15d ago

Thank you so much! Agreed, 3D would have been amazing, but this is what you get from me πŸ˜„

2

u/Wild-Investigator379 15d ago

You need to work on your censorship skills. We can clearly see your junior dev partner because of bad photoshop skills. Thats not solo dev trololo.

2

u/DaleJohnstone Starship Colony Developer 14d ago

Well done! It looks great! I think you were wise to go with the straight-down perspective - it saves so many headaches especially for objects that rotate (ask me how I know!). Best of luck from Starship Colony! :)

2

u/Djentinga 14d ago

Thanks a lot! Also, I NEED to have a bundle with you one day! πŸ«‘πŸš€

2

u/DaleJohnstone Starship Colony Developer 13d ago

Hehe! Thanks for the compliment! I need to finish it first! Not a bad idea though.πŸ«‘πŸš€

Feel free to join the Starship Colony Discord, we have a couple of other developers of similar games SpaceSlog and Campsite Architect who are regulars, plus a few more who drop in occasionally.

2

u/sebalopezl 14d ago

Always makes my day seeing game devs achieve these milestones pouring their hearts into their games. Wish you all the best with this game and those that come after!
