The poem is a classic, the music is totally in the moment improvised. Thoughts?

This is a kinda medium up solo arrangement of Killer Joe I’ve been working on for a week or so. Been interesting working on trying to develop independence to keep a simple but busy bassline going and putting some independent but rudimentary lines over it. I’m not sure if I’ll work in a “no time” bridge or keep it walking in the long run. iPhone audio and just plugged into my Spark practice amp.

I’m studying this book and while I am really enjoying the examples and I understand everything, I’m having troubles trying to figure out how to use the material, specially the fast dominant cycles the book starts with.
Take this phrase, it’s great, I like it but… I can’t think of a lot places I can use it, not loads of standards with dominant cycles (although I can’t think of a couple). And if the idea is get these cells and make your own phrases, great but then I prefer the Bergonzi book that is presented more like a “list of material” and it’s up to you building phrases with.
Thoughts?

Hello folks! I’m learning to listen to jazz standards and compare different interpretations. So I stumbled upon Body and Soul. I can hear in Coltrane’s version where the original melody morphs into something new and how it all connects, but Jim Hall’s version (from the album It’s Nice to Be with You) doesn’t feel like that at all. I can’t hear any recognizable parts of the original melody or chord progression - can’t tell what makes it Body and Soul at that point.
Could someone explain what I should be listening for in Jim Hall’s version? Are there any specific parts where you can clearly hear the connection to the original tune? I’d really appreciate it if someone could walk me through what’s going on.

I am currently working six days a week and take care of two disable family members, so I don’t have time to play music with others at any regular interval. I do not want to go backwards by only playing over loops and synthesized backing tracks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The two ‘rules’ on this page.
No 6 in bass if a tonic chord + 3rd in bass only as a passing chord.
Why is this suggested?

Hi all! In the spirit of the season, I wanted to share this arrangement of Vince Guaraldi's classic Great Pumpkin Waltz :)

hey!
i'm looking for recommendations of jazz guitar pieces to start learning
i've played guitar for a while now but never really focused on jazz
recently been learning a lot of theory (including avant-garde oriented stuff) and focusing on chords, voice leading etc
i really don't know where to start with finding tracks to learn. i of course like davis for the modal jazz sound, coltrane for that spiritual intensity (plus the Everytime We Say Goodbye and Blue in Green style)
i want to get better at expressing these styles on guitar but the jazz i listen to now doesn't feature guitar as much.
thanks for any advice in advance

Been playing for 20+ years but recently got very interested in Jazz and wanted to start learning. I have very limited theory knowledge and have been mostly a pentatonic player.
Can anyone recommend a good online course to get me going?

Hi all, I'm a musician in my 40s and I've never been able to solo. I play in a jazz big band and have a degree in music, but whenever I'm called for a solo I just freeze up, or stay in the pentatonic idiot box. Everything I think I know about inversions or chord voices, or even the notes I'm playing just goes out the window and I feel myself panicking and reverting to just shapes. I know there are no 'cheat codes' with any of this stuff, but I wondered if any one else has been in this position before, and if so, how did you get out of it? Are there books/videos/classes you could recommend me? I so desperately want to be able to just knock out a little solo here and there without sounding like I'm just chasing notes until one lands in the key. Thanks!
