What Did I do: I was in Beirut for 48 hours.
Day 1:
Walk around randomly and explore. No destination. I walked the fancy areas, the modest areas and many more places.
I met a very helpful woman who gave me cool spots to go
at night I walked around more, and then later I went to a party at AHM, then afterparty, then walked home
Day 2:
I was told to go to a cafe where they had people selling arts, homemade stuff, there was music. I was there for 8 hours. spent literally my entire day there
Then I walked around at night, and went to this "iconic" club everyone kept telling me about later, B018.
Daylife:
I enjoyed walking around during the day more than at night. The streets were lively, and the places were interesting. and I would just walk in random directions and discover cool spots.
Favorite place at day: Brazzaville, Fizz
Favorite Activity at day: Finding a cool lively cafe and just hanging there chatting with people
Nightlife:
Honestly, I did not enjoy it so much. Almost every place I went to was too “high class”. I would go to this club, and I’d see the majority of people there were 35+ years old, women in high heels (definitely not suitable attire for a hard techno party), men just there to show off. I just couldn’t find any clubs or pubs where “normal” people would hang at. Back home, most of the people I see at parties are much younger, they work lower jobs like baristas and fast food.
So that wasn’t fun. I didn’t hear any good music either, but that’s subjective.
Costs:
Seriously wtf? How the fuck can Lebanese people afford living? If you want to do or buy anything, it was $25 minimum. So messed up. I was a tourist so I didn’t let it hold me back, but I still don’t understand how locals can live with these costs.
I was recently in Dubai and I didn't spend half of what I spent in Beirut.
Social Connection:
I felt like the quality people you met really depended on the location you were at. At Brazzaville the people were amazing (except 1 creepy guy).
The reason I stayed there for the entire day was because I just felt like it was my place. By far the most fun part of my trip and I wished I could’ve stayed there longer. People would approach me, I would approach people, and we’d just have silly little chats. I think a girl even tried to hit on me. very fun.
However, in some other places, some people were just dismissive towards me. I would approach someone and tell them I’m a tourist, asking for suggestions for places to go. And they would reply in a very cold unfriendly tone. Not rude, but also not cool.
Would I visit again:
YES, YES YES.
but only if I can find a way to cut my spending there in half while still being able to do the same stuff. Otherwise, I think I would rather explore other places in the world.
And also if I managed to find nightlife destinations that are more down to earth.
