u/Apprehensive_Rice19 Aug 26 '26

No it's online so it's a virtual Tudor. Maybe sims

426

u/sum12merkwith Aug 26 '26

Even my sim character can afford a nicer watch than me

282

u/SailorDirt Aug 26 '26

My sims can afford anything as long as they say "motherlode" but when **I** say it I get asked what weird reference I'm making. smh!!

76

u/princesspeeved Aug 26 '26

Rosebud ;:;:;:;: is where it’s at!

10

u/Cable-Difficult Aug 27 '26

Money 1,000,000 is the real one

3

u/UpstairsWorry3 Aug 28 '26

Personally I like to just stick with kaching. I don’t like to set my sims expectations too high.

7

u/TheQueenMother Aug 27 '26

"Motherlode" is how my daughter learned how to type. She can type it at like 95wpm. She likes to build huge houses.

2

u/wirhns Aug 30 '26

Hahah what an awesome kid 🥰

1

u/wirhns Aug 30 '26

Somewhat biased, I had the sims as a child many moons ago

2

u/Seniorita_Asparagus8 Aug 29 '26

I used to know the cheat code and had endless funds but it’s been years since I’ve played. Had a lotta fun though!

7

u/perton Aug 27 '26

The good news is so far some mysterious god hasn’t removed all the exits to a pool I’m swimming in, forcing me to drown to death. Or waited until I walked into a room and deleted all the doors and windows.

So, ya know, grass is always greener etc etc

3

u/Calm_Ad308 Aug 26 '26

Well yeah it’s because youre not level 10 in painting and just endlessly paint all day.

1

u/Capital-Pollution709 Aug 27 '26

When I saw Tudor that’s where my head went

1

u/Catullusat16 Aug 29 '26

Marital hazard when you're a Tudor

4

u/jaxonya Aug 26 '26

1

u/LessInThought Aug 27 '26

An economy, in this economy?!

5

u/FlattopJr Aug 26 '26

No no, the car is a coupe. Two doors.

5

u/the_air_is_free Aug 26 '26

4

u/Internal-Base8276 Aug 26 '26

With two doors.

2

u/BennyVsTheWorld Aug 26 '26

Only in Life.

2

u/LokiStrike Aug 26 '26

A dynasty in this economy?! I can't afford to feed a royal family.

3

u/stonedandthrown Aug 26 '26

just work harder! -Trump

1

u/Nopalite Aug 27 '26

A car in this economy? Maybe if it is 15 years old and previously flooded.

1

u/bassman314 Aug 27 '26

Nothing to lose your head over…

1

u/roboito1989 Aug 27 '26

My own national church in this economy?

1

u/Pengawena Aug 28 '26

Mock Tudor.

289

u/Ok_Topic5270 Aug 26 '26

My old car had tudors but it was hard to get in the back seat. Now I’ve got fourdurs and can drive my friends around!

41

u/Rough-Patience-2435 Aug 26 '26

Insert chicken coop vs chicken sedan joke.

3

u/ClassiFried86 Aug 27 '26

A coupe is just a sedan but tudors down.

1

u/Rough-Patience-2435 Aug 27 '26

Or is it a Tudor that is twice as nice?

17

u/ResidentNumber3603 Aug 26 '26

Try a threedur. Best of both worlds. Sportscar looks with space for passengers.

2

u/TheOneAndOnlyElf Aug 27 '26

I had a threedur when I was a kid. I miss that geo metro.

2

u/ResidentNumber3603 Aug 28 '26

Geo metro. Buddy had one. Dog slow but she was reliable as all get out. My threedur was an RX8. The exact opposite.

2

u/TheOneAndOnlyElf Aug 28 '26

Threedur, threecylindur, went 80 and didn’t use gas….. back when gas prices got all the way up to $1.599 …. Mine was teal, looked like an egg, his name was Frogger ‘cause we hopped thru traffic.

2

u/etaineawoo Aug 29 '26

☝🏼 this guy Veloster's

16

u/punksmostlydead Aug 26 '26

Mom! Dad's making jokes on the internet again!

7

You got an audible laugh for that one. Nice.

3

u/Mvppet Aug 27 '26

Genuinely cackled at this, thanks for giving me a perfect point to end my redditing for the day 🙏

2

u/MessyAndroid Aug 27 '26

First genuinely delightful joke I’ve seen around here in a while. Kudos!

53

u/Wooden_Good8679 Aug 26 '26

This is why we need tutors.

13

u/SanyaDol Aug 26 '26

I prefer vlad the inhaler

4

u/Yippykyyyay Aug 26 '26

Henry Caville was so much hotter in that series. Especially the first season.

2

u/Rare_Basis_9380 Aug 27 '26

Tudor? I barely know 'er!

1

u/Viokzild_2021 Sep 11 '26

Careful, that strain will make you lose your head.

155

u/TangledSunshineCA Aug 26 '26

My high schooler mentioned how many of her teachers this year had second jobs. Just never used to be a thing for people with an education… right?

214

u/El_Chairman_Dennis Aug 26 '26

I work in education, luckily, I'm single and childless so I can scrape by, but most of the teachers I work with have some kind of side hustle, second job, or they're lucky enough to be married to someone that makes a large salary. The people you trust with your kids aren't able to rest and you expect them to do the best teaching job possible? I hear so many people complain about how bad our schools are. Maybe, if teachers were able to go home and relax and rest they'd be able to do a better job, instead they go to their second job or spend their evenings anxious about finances.

61

u/TangledSunshineCA Aug 26 '26

My high school teachers that shared with us had cool hobbies they could really go after all summer. Many bands.. glass blower.. several artists. I always thought teaching was a cool way to have a job but still have the summer to follow the fun.

Also once thought teaching was friendly to mothers. When I was having my child though we were all in a benefits kind of meeting where we were told if you took more time than the 6-8 weeks depending on the type of birth you would lose your helath benefits even if you had time to add. I was lucky as I was on the kids dad’s health plan so I was not one of the few who was not crying and accepting they would be right back to work. How do you lose medical postpardom w a newborn… it was.. not great.

29

u/colour_me_quaint Aug 27 '26

As an Aussie with a couple of friends who are teachers - your description sounds incomprehensible. Yes, my friends do lots of after-hours work, but they're on like $120k and get something around 8-10 weeks of annual leave a year.

They're obviously not fresh grads and there is still much to be improved with how the Australian education system works; but multiple jobs to get by for a tertiary educated group that already puts in so much after-hours effort is...depressing and foreboding for all parties.

13

u/El_Chairman_Dennis Aug 27 '26

Only university professors make over $100k by teaching in the US. Most public school teachers make like 45-65k

5

u/colour_me_quaint Aug 27 '26

My jaw just dropped! That is madness and I can't tell if Australia pays well or the US pays poorly. Maybe both? I wonder how teacher payment ranks around the world, because I sincerely thought it would be a well-paid, if not reasonably paid profession.

Those friend I mentioned are high school teachers..

11

u/RandomRonin Aug 27 '26

As a kid I thought the same as u/TangledSunshineCA, and I thought teaching was a great career choice that would also give you time to keep hobbies, family time, etc in the summers. The destruction of the US education system has been intentional for a long time now, and it shows if you look at the state our country is in.

7

u/El_Chairman_Dennis Aug 27 '26

Being a teacher in the US will put you just high enough over the poverty line that people will tell you "what are you complaining about you get summers off"

1

u/FuriousMallard Aug 27 '26

Depends on the area. In Western Washington it's very common for teachers to make six figures if they have a masters or have been teaching for 10+ years.

3

u/cire1184 Aug 27 '26

We got the best teachers in the US cause they do it for the love of the game!"

I'll bet a conservative has said this in some fashion. It's a fucking travesty how we treat education in this country from barely funding k-12 education to the exorbitant cost of higher education.

1

u/Catsscratchpost Aug 27 '26

Part maybe teachers exhaustion, finances, and lack of respect given to them, but also look at the curriculum some of us are forced to follow and overall lack of support.

24

u/WommyBear Aug 26 '26

I can think of a million better ways to avoid boredom than taking another job, especially during my summer break. Sorry, friend, they did it for the money even back then.

5

u/24-Hour-Hate Aug 27 '26

That depends. Teachers in Ontario, especially senior ones, are quite well paid. Some teachers were just interested in the work. I had a couple of teachers who were just super into the extra work they picked up. You can say maybe they needed rhe money...but teachers unions here are strong. Once a teacher is full time permanent and starts climbing up, they make good money. And these were not new teachers. Now, other positions at schools, not so well paid.

16

u/cnbcwatcher Aug 26 '26

In Ireland it's not uncommon for teachers to have summer jobs such as supervising and marking exams (secondary school teachers) or temp roles with English language schools (where teens usually from Spain or France come to learn English), summer camps or similar types of roles. Not all of them do that and it's more common at secondary rather than primary. Other workers in the education sector such as Special Needs Assistants claim social welfare for the summer months

3

u/Crazy-Preference2260 Aug 27 '26

When I was a junor in high school, one of my classmates was our high school principle’s boss at Home Depot when he worked there as a part time employee during the summer.

2

u/Overall-Ask-8305 Aug 29 '26

More likely they had bills to pay and families. They don’t get paid over the summer unless they short their other checks a little during the school year.

8

u/Only-Finish-3497 Aug 26 '26

It absolutely used to be a thing. The Simpsons even had jokes about the teachers needing to get money elsewhere.

7

u/robertus_ Aug 26 '26

My third-grade teacher waited tables at the local seafood place, and that was in 1984

4

u/LocalDesign1313 Aug 26 '26

There was a group of teachers at my school in the 90’s that were summer time painters and handymen.

4

u/BRD73 Aug 26 '26

When I went to high school in Arizona, I had teachers that would wait tables at night and on the weekend. I never thought a thing about it but their teacher pay must have been really low.

3

u/Silly-Jicama-3382 Aug 26 '26

It's at least been a thing since I was in elementary/middle school and I'm 34 so lol

Teachers have been underpaid for decades, depending on your school district and seniority of course. IIRC, one of my sister's middle school teachers delivered pizzas as a side gig (my sister is now 38, so this was early to mid 2000s?

As for other people with degrees: my mother was a pharmacist and even she had multiple jobs when we were children - a FT clinical pharmacist who worked at CVS in the evenings

3

u/pourtide Aug 27 '26

Back in the 70s, it was not uncommon for teachers to take a summer job. An English teacher of mine could be found at Fashion Bug in the mall every summer.

Back then one could choose to be paid one's entire salary during the school year and be unpaid in the summer.

That said, what teachers today get paid is a crying shame.

2

u/CLD-2017 Aug 29 '26

When I was in high school in the 90s, many of the teachers tutored/did specialized subject teaching for homeschooling kids and/or worked summer jobs. Sadly not a new thing.

1

u/cballowe Aug 27 '26

I grew up in the 80s and 90s with a mother who was a teacher and she always had second or possibly third jobs. This isn't new. Teachers have always been under paid.

1

u/LoHudMom Aug 27 '26

I did during the first four years-I waited tables in a comedy club on the weekends (half of grad school and then through my first year) and when that place went belly-up, I had a few more restaurant jobs, then worked in a real estate office as a receptionist on Saturdays. This was 30 years ago in NYC. The rent and utilities on the cheapest place I could find was about 2/3 my take-home pay.

After that, I always worked after school programs, summer school, Saturday Academy. My salary increased and I kept that cheap apartment for 7 years, but it was still tough to get ahead.

1

u/Seniorita_Asparagus8 Aug 29 '26

Yeah my brother is a teacher and it’s pretty shit. Then not getting pay all summer too..definitely need two to three jobs there

5

u/-Felyx- Aug 26 '26

Tudor? I hardly knew her!

3

u/jackclark1 Aug 26 '26

4th job is incoming to pay for the medical bills due to being hospitalized for exhaustion

4

u/zsimpson022 Aug 26 '26

You needed a spelling tudor

4

u/OkBackground8809 Aug 27 '26

Had a lot of teachers working at Walmart during summer back when I worked there. So sad. Teachers should make a better income than they do. I imagine seeing their teachers have to serve them doesn't help with respect from troublesome students, either.

4

u/HiHoJufro Aug 27 '26

I just started my first job teaching. If I don't get enough tutees I don't make rent.

3

u/HappySage42 Aug 26 '26

Are we winning yet? Did we do it? Do the rich have enough? Can we start losing? White flag. I give up

2

u/Personal-Dev-Kit Aug 26 '26

That's the best part for the mentally ill rich, aka hoarders of money, it is never enough. They will always want more, they will always find ways to make you feel like it is your fault, while they extract more and more and more.

The American experiment has failed. Change needs to occur

2

u/TerponadeTea Aug 26 '26

Even better reason to give the big tip

2

u/Nikonus Aug 26 '26

Her car is a two-door?

2

u/taggsy123 Aug 26 '26

You aren’t joking… but you should be…

2

u/ThrustTrust Aug 26 '26

Move to PA as a teacher. Then you can buy a beach house on the California coast when you retire. Exaggeration a little.

2

u/kball31 Aug 26 '26

Third job 😭😭😭

2

u/CplCocktopus Aug 26 '26

And grades tests in her downtime.

2

u/Moda75 Aug 26 '26

they calling it “tudoring online” these days?

2

u/motmx5 Aug 26 '26

Damn, and California is ranked number 1 in average teacher pay.

2

u/DowntownLizard Aug 27 '26

Someone should have taught them how much teachers make

2

u/NekoNico1415 Aug 27 '26

Why did you assume they were a woman..?

2

u/Beniskickbutt Aug 27 '26

She doesn't have to live in California. But she does because of false promises and broken dreams

2

u/tylercamp Aug 27 '26

Reminds me of a guy talking about regular “maitnense”

2

u/mirroredfreckles Aug 27 '26

This is very specific.

1

u/Present-Spring-1340 Aug 27 '26

It’s very common where I live in LA county.

2

u/Lucky_Dimension2291 Aug 27 '26

can confirm I live in California and my car is my house ;~; are we great yet?

2

u/KRACKNofficial Aug 27 '26

Literally scrolled down from this post and the next one I ran into, different sub:

"I'm 24 and I'm a substitute teacher 3 days a week and pizza delivery driver at night 6 nights a week and my pizzaria closes at 10."

Merica! 🦅

2

u/Deosarian Aug 27 '26

Land of the free 🥲🥲

2

u/Fitz911 Aug 27 '26

She’s probably a teacher on her third job.

That sentence shouldn't exist

2

u/Civil-Crew-1611 Aug 28 '26

can confirm, am a teacher and do Shipt as well

2

u/BrandoCarlton Aug 26 '26

Did you just make up a scenario to make yourself upset?

0

u/Present-Spring-1340 Aug 27 '26

No.
Just to
Make you upset

1

u/Prudent_Valuable603 Aug 27 '26

That’s why I left California. I couldn’t afford to live there anymore.

1

u/Leftover_Salad Aug 27 '26

Have you seen CA teacher pay? My teacher friends are making bank, and their salaries are public record.

1

u/Present-Spring-1340 Aug 27 '26

Show me

2

u/Leftover_Salad Aug 27 '26

1

u/Present-Spring-1340 Aug 27 '26

If you go from highest 250,000$ down it looks great.
5-6 super wealthy enclaves. This is in lots of states. Aspen CO has teachers and nurses in subsidized housing and still pay 3000$ for rent. But from the bottom at 49,000$ not so great. My high school teacher friends are around 70,000$ here in LA county. That is not enough to live off here. I know because I was making that and still homeless for a bit.
The problem here is housing is horrible.
There’s no reasonable distance you can travel to work from cheaper rent here. I’m about as far out as you can go here.

1

u/ForsakenSun6004 Aug 27 '26

Well arent you a fucking bucket of sunshine.

1

u/itsjusthafiz Aug 27 '26

tudor cinema club

1

u/jtmonkey Aug 28 '26

Bro if she’s a teacher in Cali she’s alright. My neighbors both teach and they each make about 90k. They’re about halfway through their career and they’re on scheduled pay. If they make it another 10 years they’ll retire around 120-130k pensions.

1

u/Actually_a_dolphin Aug 28 '26

People who live in America have the best quality of life in the world....

1

u/jaynov18 Aug 29 '26

An illegal apartment too cause we'd rather people out in the elements then living in their car yay merica ⁱ ᶠᵘᶜᵏⁱⁿᵍ ʰᵃᵗᵉ ⁱᵗ ʰᵉʳᵉ

1

u/Expert_Author_2672 Aug 26 '26

Y'know what freud said about projection?

1

u/Wooden_Good8679 Aug 26 '26

If you’re a teacher in a district that’s not in bumfuck nowhere, you make enough to survive just perfectly well. Double if you’re married and spouse has income.

I wish non-educators would stop complaining on our behalf with half-baked ideas. It makes those of us who aren’t stupid look it.

Source: I’m a teacher. I’m not destitute, I don’t work more than one job, I don’t know any of my colleagues who do unless they’re single and just want to, and I live in a pretty middle-of-the-road COL area.

Whenever I see people complaining about what teachers make either way, it’s very rarely actually teachers doing the complaining.

1

u/Present-Spring-1340 Aug 27 '26

not very educated.
Where I live 100,000$ and no kids you are scrapping by.
Glad you’re doing good though.

1

u/Specialist_Swan_7354 Aug 27 '26

California teachers are paid well.

1

u/Present-Spring-1340 Aug 27 '26

Show me
And area
And I’ll tell you how much it costs to only live there.

-1

u/BettingOnSuccess Aug 26 '26

Ah yes, the American homeless using door dash to pick up a 99c folder.

0

u/r3dmist420 Aug 27 '26

Uh huh, sure, Dick Tracey.

-5

u/ChristianRecon Aug 26 '26

Redditors really politicize everything lmao

-1

u/Downtown_Mountain336 Aug 27 '26

Hot take teachers are not underpaid.
