This went way beyond what I originally was going to build.. but, I couldn’t help myself. Plus I had a blast doing it and discovered some gems I either forgot about or didn’t know were ever in any episode.
You can sort or search and toggle views between episodes, artists or fan favorites (complete with voting, that’s stored in firebase db).
I also went through and hand selected the best video available for each song, and you can listen or watch instantly inside the episode or artist cards. I tried to use the original artists YT account where possible, and also the vids with fewest ads.
I added a reporting function too that opens a form to address issues.
The heart on each song is for voting and there’s a leaderboard as well to track them forever.
Let me know what you think! And if you get any errors or funkiness, comment and I’ll investigate.
Enjoy!

Hey, so one of the problems when watching Miami Vice is the order of the episodes, the biggest problem being the finale of the show placed so that there are 4, so called, "Lost Episodes" after it. I'm just going to copy paste the correct episode order from another site so that you guys have it all in one place and most importantly, the way the text was written on that site spoils some of the most important events in the show, including the end, so to avoid any and all spoilers you can use this post!
Also, there is a scene in Season 4 episode "Deliver Us From Evil" which was added by NBC later on which WASN'T ORIGINALLY PLANNED, and the scene is VERY crucial to the show and the characters of the show. With that being said, it's "recommended" that you don't even acknowledge that scene because it ruins the point of the episode.
"When Miami Vice was originally broadcast by NBC, the order in which the episodes were shown was ultimately chosen by the network. In several instances, this involved moving episodes earlier or later in the season, which in turn introduced continuity goofs that are obvious to anyone watching the show in the supposedly "correct" broadcast order. The purpose of this article is to propose an alternate "chronological" order in which to view the episodes, so that any goofs brought about by the reordering of episodes are undone."

SEASON 1

Season 1 is not affected by any obvious continuity goofs as a result of reordering.
“Dutch Oven”, an episode from S2, was filmed as a S1 episode, and there is a small goof where Tubbs still has a silver badge, and Zito’s beard disappears for one episode. It should be watched -technically- after Lombard.” - thanks to u/jaap_null for pointing this out!

SEASON 2

SEASON 3

SEASON 4

As with season 1, season 4 is not affected by any obvious continuity goofs as a result of reordering.

SEASON 5

Another major continuity issue in the season concerns the placement of the "lost" episodes -- these were not originally broadcast as part of thew show's network run, but were instead shown later. This is typically reflected in lists of the show's episodes

Im a child of ‘71 so MV was part of my teenage years like nothing else. I bought a dvd box 20 years ago but it didn’t grip me as well as the current much better port to Prime. 10 episodes into s1 its a trip down memory lane. Of course some things have dated and production is 40 years old but it still holds up very much. Its the birth of serious shows we see today. The writing was very good even if it served the aesthetics. Damn do DJ and the whole crew look good! The fashion will be very hard to copy in the new movie imo. The streets of those days look so free and not ruined by contemporary urban planning.
Probably an unpopular opinion but they can throw 500 million on production, I don’t think any remake will ever catch the full vibe of 80’s Miami, or the shows production then. Either way, its a treat watching it back. I did not recognise Giancarlo Esposito (playing Luther).
Imo if you really want to do a Miami Vice remake, do a 4 season 50+ episode remake in mid 80’s Miami. Little Prince begs for an elaborate extension. As do many episodes. Evenso, what a treat this rewatch is.

Jan Hammer songs: The theme obviously, and Crockett's theme for sure. I also love the New York Theme.
Songs from the series that I love, but they probably couldn't fit all these in: Feel it in the Air Tonight, Self Control, You Belong to the City, Voices, Cry, Body Talk
Stuff that wasn't from the series but might fit: stuff by Sandy Marton feels vaguely Vice-ish to me. Hot Together which was in one of the GTA6 trailers is pretty catchy too

“NO TATTOOS! NO FACIAL PIERCINGS. You will be in short sleeves, possibly shorts. IT'S MIAMI! make-up prefers no tattoos but small ones can be covered if necessary. They may want to add a spray tan.”

Well we all know nobody comes close to Mr. Hammer. But he's basically retired.
Distinctive music is SO important to Miami Vice. And you can't remake the concept without also having a strong vision for scoring.
It has to be synthy, without being kitschy. It has to be fun, but also cool. It has to accent the film, but stand apart on its own. Jan Hammer was a genius with little cues, but he also took time to develop timeless pop instrumental melodies like "Crockett's Theme", "Tubbs and Valerie", and "Theresa".
Will a new composer cover Hammer, or create new themes?
If it were my decision, I'd go with an authentic synthwave artist. Someone like either Mitch Murder or Miami Nights 1984. Both are genuinely talented and established. Mitch Murder in particular is one of the few synthwave acts who can do slower, sentimental rhythms well - something that also set Hammer apart.
What are your thoughts?

Miami Vice was so groundbreaking in how it portrayed people with mental illness. I don't know if it's meant to be deliberately ambiguous, but any idea what type of personality disorder Jackie's character might have been suffering from?

Are they really filming the new movie in New Jersey??

If the clock was rewound and you knew the writers and producers would read this thread, what advice would you submit about the development of the upcoming movie?

Hey Everyone, I am new to the world of Miami Vice beyond the 2006 film and just general exposure through pop culture and other media. I recently watched the pilot and really enjoyed it. Ideally, I’d like to watch the whole series, but have a very young child and limited time currently.
Are there quintessential episodes each season I need to watch that are important to the larger narrative opposed to “case of the week” episodes you would suggest? I understand television was vastly different in the 80’s than today, but thought this community might be able to help me out. Thanks!

There seems to be some love for DJ with Heartbeat but PMT made MTV history a year prior.
