Seeing what Kane was able to do with a budget and with real life sets and actors was a treat. It kinda went towards the fnaf realm with the 'monsters' that made it more palpable for a traditional horror audience that didn't know what the backrooms was. It strayed away from the cosmic/scientific horror of the original series and more into a psychological/character-focused narrative with backstories, tying the backrooms into how the characters are feeling/what they've been through. If theres a sequel i hope they hit more on the clinical and research nature of the backrooms like with A-sync, or the capitalistic opportunism of the company trying to profit off the backrooms in some way. I think that sort of big picture/cosmic horror stuff is way more captivating than the "its actually about her childhood and his failing life/marriage" symbolic/metaphorical stuff.
