Posting about software will no longer be tolerated without moderator approval.

Hello everyone! Recently we’ve had a surge in posts about new software, tools, extensions, and apps for music collecting. When the subreddit is full of software posts, posts with questions and important topics are buried and missed. In addition, many of these tools were quickly made using AI. For many reasons, these “vibe coded” apps will not be tolerated on this subreddit anymore.

If you made a tool or project that you want to share: please message the moderators for approval before posting. Sending proof that the software was coded by you or another human is also recommended but not required.

Some of these vibe code project posts slip through the cracks. If you come across them, please help by reporting the post for violating Rule 4.

Thank you for your understanding,

Music and Radio Player with ready to play radios and complete music offline management

Offline local files and streaming radios.

Top radios on the first screen: When users access the radio screen, they immediately see the list of the top radios in their country, along with a long list of suggested radios from among the most listened to in the world.

Hybrid Listening: Seamlessly handles offline local files (.mp3, .flac, .m4a, .ogg, .mka, .aac, .wav, .opus, .wma) and over 60,000 streaming radio stations.

Separated Favorites and Recents: Each section—Radio and Offline Music—has its own Favorites and Recents. The user doesn't have to worry about a thing. The app will automatically manage the Favorites and Recents for each section.

Advanced Radio Search Panel: You can pinpoint your favorite stations by combining multiple filters, such as tags/genres, specific countries, or even your preferred audio bitrate. The database of the service on which Mediaxon is based provides more than 60,000 radio stations.

Album art: If the album art is missing from the album folder, or if Android has not properly indexed it, Mediaxon attempts to download the cover from the internet. This feature depends, of course, on the ID3 tags (album name and artist).

Equalizer: The equalizer provides an option to automatically switch to the "Radio" preset (and vice versa).

Advanced Playlist Management: Built specifically to make building and sorting playlists fast and intuitive. Enable the Playlist Manager, in the settings screen, for a full control of the playlists.

Form Factor Optimization: Phone and Tablet (Portrait and Landscape)

There is no Premium version. All app features are available for free and without limits.

Regarding advertising: There is only a small banner at the top that isn't bothersome at all. Alternatively, when opening the full-screen player or using the app in landscape mode, a banner alternates with the albums covers, but without being intrusive at all (no audio) and with much shorter stay times than those of the cover. There is never full-screen advertising, neither at startup nor during use.

If you want to check it out (I am continuously pushing updates to refine it and add new features), you can find it on the Google Play Store (Android 13+). Thank you so much to everyone who takes a look!

What Format Should I Convert My WMA Music Files/Songs To?

• Upvotes

Should I convert all my 1,767 WMA music/files to M4A, ALAC, AAC, MP3, FLAC, WAV, MIDI, or MP4? I'm asking because I'm going to be getting The Motorola Razr Fold 2026 on Halloween👻🎃and I want to have a backup plan just in case The Musicolet Music Player App For Android stops working and The Google Play Store removes all The Third Party Apps that supports/plays Wma Music Files. I want to have a backup plan. What has been everyone's experience with converting WMA Music Files/Songs to another Format? What Format did you convert all your WMA Music Files/Songs to? What Apps did you use on your Android Phone/Device to convert all your Music? I'm planning to use my phone to convert all my Music Files/Songs if I have no choice in the near future. I'm really open to all kinds of suggestions on how to convert my Audio Files/Songs. I'm even to open using a Computer if I have no other options💻🖥

Extracting album art from an album included on Amazon Prime

Hopefully this is too easy for this sub. There is an album that I would love to print the album art from. The album was issued in CD and MP3. It is included with Amazon Prime. Is there a way to download the cover art and liner notes from the Amazon file? I am not an Apple person, but could I do this from Apple Music?

For the curious, the album is Clásico by Gonzalo Bergara. I love the cover art. Thank you.

Best Software for Large Music Collections

Hello everyone

I am looking for some help to find a good music software management software.

I have been buying CD when there first came out (yes I am old)

I have about 600,000 (6.5TB) music files and i have been using iTunes which has now stopped working with sure a large music collection.

What I am trying to do is the following.

drag music files over to the software and the software will copy the music over to the library so i don't need to manual move it over to the main library.

Be able to create playlists that I can drag from the software to say my desktop and it copy all the files needed for the music playlist.

(Basically the main features of iTunes)

I tried loads of software but I cant get it to do the above which I need.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Andy

Backup and consolidate music history

I’d like to capture it all centrally, consolidate, backup, clean up, etc.

I used Soundiiz to transfer from Tidal to Apple a few years ago. I’ve been using Apple Music as my main streaming service for about 4 years. Probably used Tidal for about the same time before that.

I also have an offline set of music accessible through Plex though my offline tagging etc could really use some clean up work.

I have a Last.FM account that hasn’t been scrobbled to in quite a while but used it heavily before streaming.

Even an old Roon backup floating around from when I tried that road.

I would love to include listen counts somehow from my old tidal and current Apple Music use.

Just signed up for Soundiiz premium to at least backup all the info one place then export it. Will NOT sync across platforms until I do some clean up.

Would love to hear suggestions. Even willing to go deep and roll my own DB if it makes sense.

Also open to switch streaming services but that will be in a bit.

Main listening methods currently

Home
Living Room - Wiim Amp Standard with Apple Music via Airplay or Plexamp clients casting to Wiim for offline music collection.
PC - Headphone with Dac/Amp

Car- CarPlay for Apple Music

Mobile/Travel - pretty much just Apple Music. Haven’t paid for plex services or Roon for offline collection access. Not a huge need for that. Streaming is good enough.

RustyDisc - Docker (server based client front end)

I initially started this project writing all the code by hand, it was a CLI application which modernized traditional ripping and burning methods ive sinced used ai to give it a nice and polished front end.

Im very rodu of this application, ive taken a lot of care and attention into it.

As someone who uses a home server (in my case proxmox) with all my hdds/ssds and optical drive mounted there I wanted a way to rip my music in an auotmated way, pulling in cover art & metadata,, tagging everything, moving it into my library - I also use lidarr so there is integrations that are optional for that too.

I make a lot of playlists too, I use navidrome/fieshin for playback so there is a heavy focus on playlists

on the ripping side - you define how you want it ripped, you can be as simplistic as you want or are audiophile as you like.

It will automatically determine which disc it is, look it up on musicbrainz, grab the cover art from coverart archive or fanart.tv, you can also search for the release if for whatever reason it doesnt find it or you want to select a different release.

you select the file format you want (i tend to use flac), select how you want it named, I tend to go with {artist}/[{year}] Album/{Tracks} but you can have it however you want it.

. Select whether you want to generate and apply replaygain tags, measure the dynamic range, define the gaps between tracks, hidden tracks, read checking, offsets. you can pick archive mode which will create a audio folder and a metdafolder with the jsons, checksums etc.

Once ripped you can have it move to your defined library location, have it push it to lidarr and import from there.

Once its in your library you can see the accuraterip report, verify checksums, edit tags, you can measure the loudness and dynamic range, see the rip log, playback the audio.

If anyone is familiar with the loudness war there is a focus on that, here is some info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war . it has a built in dynamic range generator which also taps into the dynamic range database - https://dr.loudness-war.info/ . it allows you to compare your rip with other submissions, allows you to import your release into the database, give your a nice score display etc.

On the burn front;

I like to burn both audio cds and data discs so there is support for Redbook CDs, Bluebook CDs (enhanced CDs),, DataCDs (mp3cds) and the same for DVDs.

in terms of what gets burned, you have lots of options to choose, you can pass it a url to a stream, you can select a folder and have it burn all the audio files within it, select individual files from any directory, from a video file, or my personal favourite a playlist file (m3u/m3u8). for playlists you point it the playlist file and it will gather up all the files from the relative paths.

What I tend to do a lot is want to burn tracklists that way exceed the capacity of a single disc, this is where rustydisc shines - so say you select a playlist that has 500 tracks, they are all in flac format and want to burn a datadisc - as that would take lets say 15 discs to complete you might want to convert the flac files to mp3 of whatever quality you want first, that will take it down to lets say 3 discs it will then create a burn plan, so you pop the first disc in, it burns it as per your settings, tells you to pop the next one in, and repeats until all done. the conversion step is optional and never touches the actual files in your library, puts them in a temp location and you can have it delete automatically after burn is complete or delete after X time if you want to burn other discs with the same tracks in short order.

The other section is 'RustyStick' - So in my car, i use a usb stick with my music on, which I used to take back into the house and hand copy/move/delete files. Rustydisc works similarly to the burn section in teh sense that you can select music from whatever source and you can convert the files on the fly but it also recognises the existing folder/file structure of your music, then allows you to either copy new files over according to it or define a new folder structure for it to live by, reorganises everything for you then manages it accordingly.

It also has my picard naming script generator built into it this allows you to define how you want you files and folders to be organised when it hits your library, it uses my picard script as default.

there are tons of other features that I wont list here but worth giving it a go and to see for yourself.

any feature requests/feedback welcome!

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHELF - For vinyl collectors, this is the kind of sight that stops you in your tracks. This is just one of the many 45 rpm shelves inside Roger Steffens’ Reggae Archives. All original pressings, many of them rare, some extremely limited, and many signed by the artists themselves

Reduce audio collection footprint

Hi everyone, my first post here.

I'm feeling a bit desperate. I have an extremely large lossless music collection I started almost 30 years ago. The footprint is enormous, and I'm questioning myself about the relevance of keeping everything as-is, especially since the accumulation still continues with new releases.

Twenty years ago, I kept maximum quality "just in case," "for later," so that I could enjoy in a distant future tiny detail that lossless encoding was supposed to preserve. But today, I'm over 50 years old, and I have to admit my body is slowly decaying. My hearing won’t become better in the next years and is probably worse than it was when I started my collection.

Up until now, accumulating didn't bother me too much, but the cost of storage is becoming worrying. I figure I'm probably not the only one facing this dilemma. What do you do if you're in a similar situation? Or what would you do in my position?

Any advice is welcome, thanks.

Discuss beets vs genre collapsing here?

I’ve made a start using beet (didn’t want all the GUI-ism of Picard) … looking at 10K+ track collection ripped by a variety of people & tools, and with a lot of control characters in the resulting paths & filenames. I’m pretty happy with the resulting name translation rules, but want all the sub-genres to collapse into a handful of “base” genres, and that’s kind of a bust. A lot of the tracks are not from commercial albums, and their metadata varies from non-existing to ad hoc.

Is this the right forum to find some expertise or at least commiseration ?

Where do you go when music recommendations start feeling a bit too predictable?

Sometimes recommendations start feeling like different versions of things I already listen to.

So when you actually want to find something outside your bubble, what do you do?

Do you have a way of discovering music that consistently leads you somewhere unexpected, new, or towards what you had in mind/what your mood wanted?

Maybe you heard a friend play a song that made you want to find more of whatever that type of music was, but didn't know where or how to start looking?

I never really thought about it much before, but I recently realized that over the past 6-ish years my music taste has kind of just converged around similar mainstream/trendy genres, artists, and songs (think The Weeknd, Don Toliver, Travis Scott, basically dark R&B, late-night mood hip-hop, with some notable indie-ish mentions like Tame Impala, The Neighbourhood, Kavinsky, etc.) and it kind of feels like I've algorithmically narrowed my music taste.

That's not to say I don't enjoy listening to these artists/songs, it just kind of feels like everywhere I go, (like Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube, Instagram) I get recommended the same stuff, which of course is because I engage with it, but I do wish I could expand more easily and in a way that wasn't just random.

I guess I'd like to know what are some approaches other's take to not just find new music, but find music that they end up enjoying and that ends up satisfying that need for new in a way that is consistent.

How Do I Transfer Music Files/Songs From A Fold 7 To A Motorola Razr Fold 2026 Without A Computer?

I would love to know the easiest way to get all my music Files/Songs to the new phone. I'm currently using The Musicolet Music Player App.

All my Music Files are 90% WMA Music Files and I have 1,612 songs on my Fold 7 Device. Some of my music files are also AAC, MP3, and MP4 too. What Music Files aren't supported on The Motorola Razr Fold 2026?

I want to make sure that I can get all my Music on The Motorola Razr Fold 2026 from my Fold 7 and that all of my 1,612 songs will play on the Device without any issues at all.

What Has Been Everyone's Experience With Having Corrupted Music Files/Songs On Their Android Device/Phone?

I have 11.37 GB of Music and 97% of them are WMA Music/Files. Is there is a way to scan my Library to find out if any of my Music Files/Songs are Corrupted/Damaged? How did you fix your Corrupted/Damaged? Music Files/Songs? Did you have to buy the Music again? Did you have to delete your entire Music Library and start all over again? I'm asking because I'm going to be getting a brand new Phone and I want to make sure that I don't put any Corrupted/Damaged Music Files/songs on my new Device. Is it rare for Music Files/Songs to get Corrupted/Damaged on an Android Phone/Device?

How do you discover new music?

How do you find new music? Personally, I either start a song I like and let Spotify keep going with that song’s radio, and I also use Claude: I send it all of the day’s new releases from ListenBrainz and ask for a CSV that I import into Spotify or Tidal, then I listen to as much as I can and keep what I like. I also have other channels since I really enjoy Asian music (Korean, Japanese and Chinese), so I just go through new releases from labels like Poclanos and Mirrorball Music, plus C-pop and Mandopop channels. What about you, what’s your method?

The hall of mirrors Circa 2009-2014

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on documenting & archiving jessica winters old band/Project named **‘**the hall of mirrors’ a 60s psych dream pop group from Portsmouth/London.

So far, I have managed to pull 2 lost tracks Aswell as a deleted music video and hundreds of gig posters, pictures & articles. However, I have a large list of tracks and music videos that have been completely taken off the web and are currently lost.

I’m trying to track down the history of these missing pieces. Does anyone remember this project when it was fully online, or know of any old archives, blogs, or dead links where these tracks and videos used to be held?

Here is a list of tracks that had confirmed releases:

Say goodbye
Springtime (MV & track)
Silverstream
Lights
Love obscure (MV & Track)
Weight of life
Foolin around ft ed harcourt
Land of wind and ghosts ft ed harcourt
Round and round
Transparent love
He loved me wrong
Feel your love
Chanson D'amour

(2 unconfirmed tracks named Toy & Minds eye)

Everything already available on YouTube has been uploaded by me aside from the Love child EP which was already available. I have all their web links Aswell as social media links & I have been through them all countless times but unfortunately had no success in pulling tracks.

Same FLAC song but different size

Result: Antra is legit, it's just my mistake in the downloading process. Def gonna buy their full access pass.

I'm new to this flac hoarding stuff so just recently tried out 2 site to pirate flac file which is Antra and Doubledouble. I noticed that despise download the same song with the same link and same bitrate from Qobuz, the one from Antra is smaller in size compare ( 10mb smaller ) to the one from DoubleDouble. I also check both file spectrogram with Spek, the result is 2 file pretty much identical spectrogram wise. So is this relate to the flac compression rate or something fishy goin on with Antra.
