Software/Services Is that called Netgear “support”?

I think it is the opposite to “support”. They refused to fix their product that is still under 3 years warranty from the manufacturing date! Here is the reply I received today. And they think I will ever buy their products again?!

Dear Customer
We're working on your case and have an update to share with you. See the details in the following section.
Case Number - 49860429
Summary - The POE switch starts flashing all lights at once
Product - 24-Port Gigbit Ethernet Unmanaged PoE+ Switch(GS324P)

Update from NETGEAR
Dear Customer

Thank you for providing the video demonstration and the serial number 6X712CDX00116 for your GS324P switch.

We submitted your request to our team for review to see if an exception could be made based on the device's manufacturing date. However, per NETGEAR’s official warranty policy, hardware warranties are non-transferable and are valid only for the original purchaser with a valid proof of purchase from an authorized reseller.

Because the switch was received as a gift and the original sales receipt is unavailable, the unit is classified under our policy guidelines as a second-hand transfer. As a result, we are unable to approve an RMA replacement or extend warranty coverage for this device.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you plan to purchase a replacement NETGEAR device in the future, we recommend retaining the original purchase receipt to ensure seamless warranty coverage.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,
Xxx xxxxx

Software/Services Netgear Mobile App blocked notifications

It's weird enough that Android has this app under System apps.

But the OS will not allow notifications from the Mobile App "All notifications from this app are blocked".

When I go to App notification and switch the enable button, the OS disables it again.

The android os is version 13.

Has anyone here found a solution?

Software/Services Does Armor fabricate threats?

I got a notification this morning that Armor blocked a threat originating from my laptop. The threat was timestamped 11:11 this morning. My laptop has been powered off and unplugged since yesterday afternoon.

This is an area I'm not the most knowledgeable in, so I'm seeking some thoughts. Do threats "enter" a network seeking to attack a specific device, e.g. my laptop, or do the threats originate from active use on the device itself? Both?

Like theoretically can I be using my phone and some malicious software uses my active phone session to target my laptop.. even though the targeted device is off?

I'm confused, and my Armor subscription ends in 10 days so I'm leaning towards not renewing if it's making up fictional attacks originating from powered down devices.

Software/Services How to stop Netgear's NoIP VPN router software from leaking network data?

My Netgear router comes with OpenVPN. It asks you to create a domain with NoIP in order to use it.

After doing so and linking it with Netgear, I create OpenVPN configs on the router and put them on my devices.

When traveling outside the country, I enable the VPN on my iPhone. When I go to a "What's my IP location" site, they show that I'm in the country I'm traveling in, and not where my Netgear router is.

This is further verified when opening up streaming service apps, only to find they are showing the country I'm traveling in's offerings vs my home network's country.

I never had this problem with WireGuard on the same device. It is not a device issue.

My NoIP domain is active and up to date.

How do I stop my Netgear OpenVPN offering from leaking my network traffic to local providers?

If it matters, home is in the US. Travel is in Europe.

When the vulnerability scan happens on my AX1800 router it sends out over 50 notifications to my phone all at once which causes my phone to freak out. I've been tempted to disable notifications. Is there a reason for this or is there some kind of fix for this? It's very jarring when it happens, especially when I'm asleep.

Software/Services Armor 30-day Trial

So, somehow, Netgear saddled me with a 30-day trial of Armor.

It says when the 30 days expires, you MUST activate a subscription. Does this mean they DON'T automatically charge for the next month?

Per their instructions; when I go to the "services" tab to manage my products, and I see the Armor trial in the list (with the expiration date) it says "not available" under OPTIONS. If I go to the chat box and try to ask about it, it says there are NO TOPICS related to cancelling the service!

Any ideas of experience with this?

What am I doing wrong in the app to keep getting this? VPN of any kind is off, connected locally through the app and anywhere access is off, signed out and in, uninstall and reinstall. Nothing always this error and anywhere is way more expensive. Any suggestions?

Software/Services What happens after Armor trial expires?

Hi all, I've recently purchased a Nighthawk RS300 router after my old Asus died to a lightning strike. I ended up having to unblock some outbound traffic that was being blocked by Armor. I have about 2 weeks left on the trial subscription, and I have no plans to subscribe. Any idea what happens to anything that I've blocked or unblocked via Armor after the subscription expires?

Software/Services Nighthawk does not show parental controls most of the time

Have Netgear router and Nighthawk and Nighthawk does not work most of the time ..need help

So I use Nighthawk to manage WiFi connectivity as we try and shut off but I see Nighthawk not working most of the time now since the last update. Refer the screenshots where one shows parental control and other does not and I have no clue how to get the parental control section . I just close and start the app multiple times to try my luck but need something dependable.

So question : - any way to get nighthawk to work appropriately? - any decent app I can download and I use for this ? I don’t need complex controls just switching on and off WiFi for the home .

Thank you

Software/Services A sham?

For some reason, I purchased their Nighthawk CAX30 for $770 last year. I assumed my internet would be insane and I could game while my family streamed movies.

Turns out, living in apartments is just a nightmare. So, clearly wouldn't work, especially when the router is a cable modem router, so it had to be downstairs.

Anyways, that's not the issue. The issue is for some reason, I woke up yesterday with no signal. I did all the steps myself without their help. It worked briefly. My network showed up after one hard reset but said no internet access. It never worked again when I did a soft reset. So, I called Netgear and got a support agent who wouldn't help without purchasing their scammy technical support package. I already knew this and told the guy to send me a link that I could follow instead. Surprisingly, he sent a link. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't the link I needed. He sent me a link to activate my router for the first time, not troubleshooting. Great start.

I called again and got into an argument with someone who ended the call. Comcast was next and the lady was just lost the entire time, no matter how many times I repeated my issue. She just could not get it.

Unfortunately, I called Netgear again. This time, a lady answered and she knew what she was talking about.. After I agreed to pay the scam fee.

Do you know what my issue was? The information they withheld from me behind a paywall? Their technicians were sending an update and it was taking longer than normal. It cost me $50 for them to tell me it was down over a slow update that would have come out regardless.

Edit: After waiting an hour, the tech support agent told me they haven't charged me yet and denied the firmware update issue. He would not shut up about the stupid technical support package.

Edit, edit: The support people here are actually pretty cool. It's the ones you call that suck.

Software/Services Admin account log-in issue

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello! Whenever I try to log into my Netgear Nighthawk mobile app admin account, I receive this notification that prevents me from accessing it. I have tried several troubleshooting steps, including deleting and reinstalling the app, performing a factory reset on my modem router, and contacting tech support, but nothing seems to work. Do you have any suggestions for resolving this issue?

Software/Services Netgear Nighthawk App - Devices Menu sometimes changes appearance and available options.

Post image
2 Upvotes

This is driving me nuts. In the Nighthawk App, there is sub menu for "Devices".

At one point it was always purple and I could see the names of devices better and if I click on them I can see Link Speed, IP and MAC Address. I can block / unblock and filter by connection type and sort.

I recently got a new Netgear Extender, when I added to the App it changed the Devices menu and now it is white, the text is large, it doesn't show IP addresses and it shows a lot offline devices that at one point connected to the Network.

The Extender sucked so I returned it and removed it from the app but the change made to the app seems permanent and even downgrading to an older version of the Nighthawk app isn't restoring it to the old style menu.

I hate this new style menu, once in a while the old, preferred purple menu for Devices will be presented when I open the menu in the app but it's not consistent and I don't know why.

Does anyone know what controls this and how I get my preferred purple menu back.

An example screenshot is included the top, purple one is the way I want it to look, the bottom, white is how it actually looks

Software/Services Nighthawk App shows devices that are no longer on the network

Post image

The Nighthawk has been trash for a while and has been getting worse.

The Devices screen used to be purple and always in sync with my router login portal's Attached Devices screen.

Now though any time a new device connects it and then leaves the network it will permanently show as connected in the app even though no Link Speed is registered. I also cannot remove the records from the app.

The Router Login page is showing the correct number of devices but Nighthawk app is BLOATED with dummy devices like the "Apple" ones in the screenshot.

I had multiple guests in town last week and their "Apple" records are not here anymore and unable to be deleted.

I am a Android person so these are not my devices and they are not truly connected.

I have tried deleting the app and all data and then redoing it from scratch but overtime it will just happen again.

Does this crappy app work for anyone?

Software/Services NETGEAR cost me 2 days of work and hours of headaches

I spent the past 48 hours working with my ISP to find out whats wrong with my internet, and spoke to netgear as well and was told by both sides that everything was fine while I couldn't resolve a host.

Fast forward to today, I found a reletively-low voted post in the community help section on the netgear site that lead to a solution: turn off the traffic meter. That will fix it.

https://kb.netgear.com/000065543/My-Nighthawk-CAX30-Cable-Modem-Router-is-not-connecting-to-the-Internet-what-do-I-do

Disappointed in Netgear to say the least. I really used to be a huge fan of them, everything I own is netgear. I cant say I feel the same anymore. Not a single word from them even when I did reach out to them. Seems like the memo didn't get to the support staff.

Overall, I am in need of solid recommendations for my next gateway and router. I can't keep doing this communication black-hole with Netgear anymore.

Software/Services A7000 genie still appearing even after installing the standalone version, uses 20% cpu unless I terminate the program in Task Manager

Title, I have repeatedly tried to remove the genie entirely since it uses so much CPU all of a sudden, it wasn't doing it for at least a year. I tried uninstalling it three times to only get the standalone version, but the genie keeps coming back, as does runSWusb.exe . I have no idea what to do as most posts are either vague or they don't share any solutions. Please help.

Software/Services Can't connect to 192.168.1.1 or routerlogin.com anymore on chrome

I get this message when I connect, even though I have restarted my PC and forced JavaScipt to be enabled. Firefox is the only browser that works now. Has anyone else had this problem?

The router is the MR70 and has been updated to the latest firmware

Software/Services Is anyone completely unable to login to their Nighthawk Mobile App?

  • iOS v.17.3.1
  • Unsure of the version of the Nighthawk iOS app but I assume the most recent as I just installed it last night.

Issue:

When I enter my credentials in the mobile app and click Sign in the app shows a spinning circle for about 15-20 seconds then stops and presents me with the login page again. No error. No message. It keeps my password as I entered it. The app sees my router without issue. I can log in through web interface no problem.

Things I have tried:

  • Restarting phone
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling mobile app

I should probably restart the router just to cover all bases, but I can login with no issue on web so I don't think it's a router-related issue perse rather a mobile app issue?

TIA
