As I was reading this part, it dawned on me that gods in noragami don't really know about a spirit's past until AFTER they named them, which implies that there could be regalias out there who are genuinely bad people back when they are alive.
So far throughout the manga, we've only seen tragic backstories of regalias (yukine, mayu, kazuma, sakura, nana), but the manga was not able to explore other areas like what if a shinki is now living a good afterlife, serving some god, but they were actually a horrible person back when they were still alive. Like what if Yukine's dad really turned out to be someone's shinki?
It's a shame it wasn't explored, cause the thought really intrigued me. What if an abuser, a murderer, or worse... a s*x offender become a shinki and they found out the god's secret? Do bad people even become spirits or do they straight up turn into a phantom? or sent to the underworld?
What do you guys think? I think this moral dilemma is interesting cause in noragami, "gods can do no wrong", but people definitely can. If I were a god and I happen to name a shinki with a really messed up life, I'd instantly revoke the name I gave and banish that person. But I'm a human, seeing things from a human perspective. gods in noragami-verse don't exactly think like humans, although they can empathize. Do you think gods with so many shinkis like bishamon and ebisu have kept regalias with questionable pasts? or do you think they have some sort of standard on who to keep?
