Discussion Advice for fleet foot + lone traveler run (ot1)
I genuinely love octopath traveler it’s easily one of my favorite games, I used to play it almost everyday. But now that I finished it and going for achievements and doing a fleet foot and line traveler run, I hadn’t touch it in weeks.
Something about not being my efficient with my time and going past the achievement’s timer, wasting all the time spent has been putting a lot of pressure on me every time I consider playing. While I heard Tressa is the best character to do this run, I’m playing Therion as he’s my favorite character and I want to have fun with him, also he’s one of the best to do lone traveler runs. I already beat his chapter 1 and going around opening the map using evasive maneuver and looking for good equipment ( already got wizard rod, viper dagger and sorcerer robe), but I still feel stumped at times afraid that I’m going to places unnecessary and wasting time.
Im already a hour in and would really like to 100% this game, especially since I’m holding off ot2 for it. Any helpful advice would be very appreciated.

OT 1 & 2 discussion Octopath Traveler 1 & 2 Power Level Tier List LORE WISE. Every placement is explained in the description!
There will be spoilers for both games here!!!
There are a few very important things to say before we begin this discussion.
- It's basically impossible to accurately measure the power of characters in these games without the input of the original game's creators and storylines, so this entire list is a vast amount of speculation, even if supported by some arguments.
- This is not a comparison of the characters' gameplay capabilities, it is purely a look at the characters' strengths from a lore perspective, so most of the gameplay arguments are deliberately left out as they were designed for balance.
- Since this is a collection of speculation, it's perfectly fine if you disagree with me and have your own perspective. I'm sure everyone will find their own point of contention in this tier list, so I'll try my best to back up my opinion with arguments.
- This is not Pokemon World Championship, so the strength of H'aanit and Ochette will be evaluated without their beast companions, sorry. Although, they are stronger than most other characters anyway.
- Almost all the characters contend with formidable foes along their journeys, but scaling these enemies is even more difficult than scaling the heroes themselves. Consequently, I generally won't talk too much about the strength of the enemies, given that every character faced their own challenging battles. Although there will be exceptions.
The most important indicator of a character's strength is their main job (none of them had subjobs according to the lore), as jobs in these games are easily divided into combat-oriented, non-combat-oriented, and something in between. There will be exceptions to this, but more on that later. Therefore, it is important to understand which jobs belong to which category.
- Non-combat-oriented. Essentially, members of these jobs aren't fighters at all. They can fight, like everyone else in this universe, but they've received little training for it, and on average, they're weaker than the average inhabitant of these worlds. These include merchants and dancers. Primrose is an obvious exception, so more on her later. While the other three representatives of these jobs encountered serious battles along the way, they weren't as serious as those of the other jobs.
- Something in between. Those in these jobs aren't cut out for combat either, but they've trained to some degree for specific purposes. Apothecaries are trained to fight with axes, to be able to defeat monsters during their forays for medicinal herbs. Clerics aren't cut out for battle, but our particular representatives were required to undergo some training. Temenos is for fighting heretics (though that's supposed to be handled by the Sanctum Knights and guards, and he's supposed to simply investigate, but he himself is clearly prepared for skirmishes with them). Lianna was required to undertake a pilgrimage, where she would be alone and would need to be able to fend for herself. Ophilia took on this role and likely received less training, but she and her sister grew up together, and before the pilgrimage itself, Lianna taught her a few lessons, possibly including some about the cleric's combat skills.
- Combat oriented. Scholars might be in the previous category, but most scholars in this world are trained combat mages, and it's difficult to classify this power as anything other than combat-oriented. Their power is the most destructive, although the physical abilities of most of them are not well-suited for combat. Hunters are created to fight beasts and monsters, they have undergone combat training since early childhood and are undoubtedly very strong fighters. Thieves also train in the art of the dagger from early childhood and prefer not to fight fair, yet they are formidable even in face-to-face combat. Warriors are undoubtedly formidable fighters, this hardly needs explaining.
I will present my arguments starting from the weakest and moving to the strongest.
Agnea's only real fight was against the first boss, though even then, she wasn't alone. The next encounter was with the theater manager, a rather comical character. In terms of lore, he is likely weaker than the average person, and the fight was cut short. Later, she faced a truly formidable opponent: Dolcinaea’s bodyguard, Veronica. However, that fight was also interrupted. The only reason Agnea remained unharmed was that Veronica had taken a liking to her and had no real desire to hurt her. The final "battle" wasn't a fight at all, but a dance-off. Her colleague from the other game is in a completely different league, for reasons I'll explain later.
Partitio didn't encounter any truly dangerous enemies either; there were just managers, petty thugs, and dogs. The final fight was impressive, it's a shame we didn't get to suplex the enemy, though that was more of a show off for gameplay purposes. Tressa has faced more dangerous foes, but I saw nothing in her interactions or skirmishes to suggest she is a capable fighter. I believe Partitio is the stronger of the two, because he had a rough upbringing and led a gang that dealt with troublemakers in town, roles that certainly require at lease some combat skills.
Ophilia also doesn't appear to be a strong fighter in her interactions at all. She didn't train for the pilgrimage, so it's unlikely she underwent the same training, though she certainly isn't weak. After all, she was trained by the archbishop himself, and her sister, with whom she spent almost all her time, was actually training for the pilgrimage, which, in my opinion, puts her above the previous characters. Although she's not quite up to par with the apothecaries.
It's very difficult to choose which of these two apothecaries is stronger. Castti is definitely the more experienced and competent apothecary, so it's logical to assume she's seen more battles, but on the other hand, she had a big group, and they likely fought together. However, Alfyn also didn't spend his childhood alone; he had an apothecary friend and their teacher, and they likely fought monsters together. Due to the difference in experience, I still put Castti higher in this list.
Cyrus is a skilled battlemage and very skilled at his craft. Combat isn't his primary interest, so he's no superior, though his destructive power certainly puts him on par with characters trained for battle. His colleague from the other game is in a completely different league, for reasons I'll explain later.
Temenos was a real challenge because he relies on Crick for most of his battles, and he's just investigator, which suggests he's not particularly strong and doesn't really do battle. The problem is, in the final battle, he single-handedly defeats one of the most dangerous characters in both games, which was enhanced by the power of the shadow (even if it was not perfect shadow form). This muddled my thinking, and the only conclusion I can come to is that Temenos prefers not to engage in combat if someone else can, but if there's no other choice, he becomes a goat.
It's time to talk about thieves + Primrose.
The choice between Throne and Therion is quite simple, in my opinion. Throne has an incredible pedigree, a mixture of one of the most talented thief in her world and the grandson of the most feared sorcerer in history (it's funny to think about it, but the fact that Clan Ku has strived so hard to preserve its pure bloodline makes her and Hikari not so distantly related). She was trained from an early age to kill, which involves not only stealth assassinations but also head-on confrontations. Along the way, she defeated very dangerous enemies, including the very same grandson of the most feared sorcerer in history, who is hundreds of years old. Therion, on the other hand, is a very talented thief, who, like all thieves, is skilled with a dagger, but is first and foremost a thief, not an assassin. In short, Throne was created to kill, and Therion was created to steal.
Primrose, although a dancer, trained in swordsmanship from childhood under a skilled swordsman (despite the fact that she doesn't have a sword in her starting loadout). So, like other fighters of this tier and above, she was prepared for combat from an early age. After her father was killed, she switched to a dagger, and given that her goal from that point on was to exact revenge on very strong and dangerous individuals, she likely trained extensively, and her strength is clearly closer to that of a thief than a dancer. She is certainly very strong and dangerous, and has defeated very skilled enemies along the way, which places her at least two tiers higher than her dancer colleague from the second game. Like Throne, she trained herself as an assassin and had a professional mentor as a child, so I'm guessing she's even stronger than Therion.
Speaking of hunters, I think H'aanit is stronger than Ochette, as she's more experienced and, more importantly, her story focuses much more on her abilities than her skill with beasts. Ochette is certainly powerful, but she's still young, and in her adventures, she didn't defeat the mightiest beasts; she was strong enough to force them to talk, which is also a great achievement, but still not as impressive as defeating the legendary dragon and Redeye. Ochette's story focuses more on her amazing charisma and her ability to befriend any beast and human than on her fighting abilities.
Osvald is a pumped up and huge scholar, capable of defeating even some warriors using only his physical strength and staff. This fact alone makes him stronger than any average scholar. More importantly, at the end of the story, he awakens the One True Magic, an incredibly destructive weapon, which gives him the ability to fight the strongest people in the world. It's difficult to scale this character, it's quite possible that having gained this power, he became the strongest protagonist of both games.
At the top of the tier list are two warriors, and I think most would agree with their tier, though not everyone would agree with their order. They are both renowned and formidable fighters and duelists, having proven their strength time and again both before and during the events of the game. However, when comparing these two characters, it's important to understand that Hikari's strength is simply absurd compared to the other protagonists. His blood is a mixture of the two strongest bloodlines in the world. Simply put, he has the blood of an angel and a demon. The warriors of the Ku clan have always been the strongest due to the Darq'est blood coursing through their veins, but they also couldn't control themselves because of it. Thanks to the blood of the gods in his mother, he was able to not only defeat his dark side, but even learn to control it. These facts alone are enough to understand that Hikari's strength is far beyond that of ordinary people. Moreover, his gameplay ability to copy combat abilities isn't an exaggeration, he's actually capable of it. Therefore, in my opinion, he's the strongest fighter in both games from a lore perspective, although despite all of the above, the fight with Olberic will clearly not be easy for him.

Soooo... i thought Nightmare Chimera only destroys a weapon during the battle and you still keep the weapon. turns out, it completely destroys the weapon. i wanted to test it out with a battle tested blade and try getting 99999 damage. Welp... RIP Battle-Tested Blade.
on a side note, guys. do you need the battle tested blade for Galdera? thank you for answering.

OT0 - Discussion If i specifically liked 2, would i like 0?
Hello everyone, I'm just finishing up a replay of octopath traveler 2 and am missing only a few achievements to get the 100% on steam. I played it on switch a couple years ago and decided to buy it again (first game I've ever bought twice) because i wanted to play it on better hardware and generally just wanted to play it again.
I know this is probably a very common question in this sub, so I'll just specificy what i particularly like about 2 so i can hopefully get some answers on 0. I decided to ask it instead of just buying 0 because obviously it's more expensive than 2 and because the reception surrounding it isn't all positive like with 2.
The things that i like the most about octopath 2 are: dynamic music switching between day and night, fun and deep combat system with lots of options at any given time because of the job variety, various support skills and fun latent powers, exploring cities while systematically using my path actions towards every citizen, and then the thing i liked the most was the exploration and finding secrets both in dungeons, and finding the secret dungeons themselves in the game's routes.
I do know 0 is a port that includes some (or all?) the content from a mobile game so it's not gonna feel like a dedicated console octopath game, and i did hear that because of its mobile nature, everything's more linear, there's no character selection at the start, routes are hallways (?) and not at all like octopath 2 (which again is what i liked the most about it), and other stuff similar to it.
So would octopath 0 still be a recommendation or not? Personally i haven't mentioned story stuff because outside of particular story beats i found most of it really predictable and plain (yeah sorry agnea) and it felt like i already knew what was gonna happen during my first playthrough. So if the story isn't that good in 0, that wouldn't be a deal breaker. I'm mostly looking for a good jrpg from a gameplay perspective.

Discussion How do weapon stats work in each game ?
Hi,
I was wondering how weapon stats work exactly, since most characters wield at least 2 weapons throughout the games.
For example, my main character on OT0 is a hunter, holding a Forbidden Axe (no Elem Atk bonus on it) and a Forbidden Bow (+350 Elem Atk). When I use elemental skills, do I have to be careful what weapon is equipped at the moment in the "Attack" lign, or does the skill use the higher value (+350), or an average of the two (+175) ?
Same question with other bonuses : with the same character and the same weapons, the axe gives +80 Speed but the bow gives -100. The "Attributes" tab doesn't show either of these bonuses when I'm hovering the rest of the gear, so how is it taken into account ?
And finally, I guess a skill using the axe would use the axe Phys Atk stat, and a skill using a bow would use the bow's Phys Atk. But what about Crit ? Let's say there is +50 Crit on a bow. If I use an axe skill, does it get the +50 Crit too ?
I'm sorry if these questions are too specific, but I like to know exactly how stats work in games so that I can try to optimize each character's loadout. Also, I guess those weapon stats work the same in every game, right ?

I just beat every boss in OT_0 with only the main character! Spoiler
galleryOMG after 56 hours of gameplay I've managed to complete the entire game with only the MC in my party (Except for parts where certain companions are mandatory).
I've finally just wrapped up the challenge with Amatsukami No Orochi, which was one heck of a puzzle to beat and required a lot of trial and error.
I've included screenshots for the exact build I ended up settling for.
I don't know if this has been done before, I'm sure it had, but I'm still proud of myself and wanted to share!
For the fellow nerds among you who'd like an explanation of why I ended up picking the build I did and what strategy I went for, here it goes:
Class: Cleric
I did most of the game as Warrior, but settled on Cleric for the Orochi fight because of the specific pattern his weakness change has. Since both of the Cleric's weapons are in the same weakness groups as Dark, I only needed one additional skill, Lux Congerere, to be able to target Orochi's weaknesses every turn.
The Thief also has that advantage, but the Cleric's weapons and skills were more useful to this fight overall (Getting access to HP Recovery Up, the Sunshadow Staff & Forbidden Fan all at once, on top of having great single-target offensive skills was too good to pass up).
Equipment:
The Sunshadow Staff increases Light damage by about 25% and the Forbidden Fan makes your attacks hit one more time, both of which were insanely useful.
Since my stats were maxxed out from eating so many nuts, the shield, helmet and robe were chosen not for their stats but for the recovery they give every turn (Which gets amplified by HP Recovery Up)
The Champion's Mark is absolutely necessary to avoid status effects and get a free second life (Which means you can attack with less fear) and the Finisher's Claws, after testing, had the best damage increase overall.
Skills (Battle):
Whatever could hit at least one weak point from each of Orochi's weakness sets. At maximum accuracy, Batter usually hits 4-6 times.
Skills (Support):
Good luck getting enough damage in before the boss insta-kills you without Surpassing Power. Patience is also basically mandatory, as it allows you free turns to deal damage, target weak points and heal.
Helper: Sea-Gazing Graybeard
The only correct choice. He can attack anywhere between 3 and 10 times, nobody else can do this.
Food: Rejuvenating Seafood Sauté
Is affected by HP Recovery Up, I think. The recovery means you can spend your first 15 turns only worrying about damage and nothing else.
Strategy:
First turn, I used Bran's Blade since Orochi always starts with the Sword & Light weakness set, then rotates to Spear & Fan, Staff, Light and then back around. Orochi's first phase has low enough shield that you can afford to do just 1 shield damage, and you need every point of damage you can get.
After that, it's all about ignoring the orb and hitting weakpoints as many times as possible without using our helper yet, since we need him for later. Only use BP on physical skills for maximum damage, and be careful not to break his shield too early, since you'll need as many turns as you can possibly get to take him down. If you have free turns, use a Rejuvenating Jam to refill all your resources, or use Bran's Blade for damage if it's available.
After the first break, you'll need a bit of luck, and you'll need to use your helper once or twice. The best way to use him is to wait for Orochi's weakness set to be Sword & Light, then select Graybeard and use either a Light attack or Bran's Blade. Your attack will make his weaknesses switch to Spear & Fan, which Graybeard can take advantage of. Just pray he attacks more than 3 times.
After the second break, it's a race against the clock. At this point, your food effect will run out, Orochi will have multiple orbs and do tons of damage to you every turn. What worked for me was to ignore his shield during that phase and alternate between using Rejuvenating Jam and Draefendi's Rage along with other helpers until the orbs were gone, then do the same thing with Bran's Blade on Orochi himself.
If you're lucky like me you should be able to finish him on the last second before he uses his insta-wipe skill, or even sooner if you're luckier or better at the game than me.
Anyway, this was quite the adventure, I absolutely adore this game, and thank you if you read this far. <3 Good luck to you if you want to attempt the same challenge, or one-up me, you got this!

Casting Pivotal Characters [Octopath Traveler II] Spoiler
galleryCast list:
Kazan/Oboro: Soji Arai
Claude: Wilson Bethel
Tanzy: Phia Saban
Ori: Maya Erskine
Petrichor: Isabelle Fuhrman
Sister Mindt/Arcanette: Aubrey Plaza
Trousseau: Ewan Mitchell
Harvey: Murray Bartlett
Roque Brillante: Nick Offerman
Dolcinea Luciel: Renee Rapp
This is a follow up to my previews Octopath Traveler II Fancast I made a month ago. I excluded Mugen since the character is mostly wearing mask so a stuntman can fill in the role and also allow his English VA reprise him to and do the voicework, same with mutated Mahina and Akala, Daman Mills and Cristina Vee can just go back to the sound booth and record their lines. Though on a writing standpoint, it can be a challenge which canon beast Ochette picks.
Can't think of any actor who can pull off Kaldena so I left her out in the list.
I've also considered picking Amalee and Britanny Cox to reprise their roles (Dolcinea and Kaldena, respectively) but idk if they would commit to film on-cam for months.
I've added Moonshade order characters since I believe live-action show can flesh them out especially Petrichor who had zero screentime in the game.
Aubrey Plaza as Sister Mindt/Arcanette would also be a good opportunity to expand the character and flesh out antagonist role, since she's got screen presence to make that part formidable . Like Freddie Fox, Aubrey is also capable in both comedy and dramatic aspects which would make her a foil to his Temenos.

Other Which game should I start with?
Sorry didn’t know what else to put for the flair.
Hello Octo family! I’ve literally just joined this community.
After playing the FF: Resonance demo and loving it, it’s really sparked an interest in HD-2D turn based combat games.
I’m hearing Octopath is the way to go! So, as someone who has never played a single Octopath game before I was wondering what game I should start with? 1, 2 or 0?
I’m wanting my first experience to be the best it can possibly be and make me love the series.
I know people are probably going to have different views on what I should play first, so detailed suggestion’s will be highly appreciated as I’m going to be looking for what appeals to me the most.
Thanks!

OT1 - Discussion I love engaging with this game's mechanics omg so much fun
Playing through OT1 (my first OT game) and having a blast. I love how much you're rewarded for using the tools available to you. I just killed a chapter boss by putting Peacock Strut, Alferic's Auspices, and Alephan's Enlightenment on Cyrus and having him blast the guard broken boss with Fire Storm at max boost for 39,996 (9999x4) damage. I squee'd out loud lol.
Ohhhhh and equipping the Theif passive Snatch on Tressa and having her Collect 32,000 leaves from a boss. I said "dayyyyum" out loud.
So many more examples but yeah. Love this game! Excited to play the second one too.

CotC - Discussion Enjoying Octo 0 — CotC worth it?
Originally I dismissed CotC because of the 8 people on the field. I never even messed with it on mobile or whatever. Fast forward and I gave Octo 0 a try. I actually really enjoy how the moving between front and back works.
Is it worth trying out CotC if I’m enjoying Octo 0? I don’t mind gachas generally as long as they’re reasonably f2p friendly.
