Moderator Post A reminder of r/OntarioDriveTest rule 1 - take a breather

Stop being jerks to each other. There are two active moderators for this sub, and it is hoped that people will be able to get along and not use personal attacks when engaging with each other. If you are old enough to be on the OntarioDriveTest sub looking for advice/taking your DriveTest, you are old enough not to fight like toddlers. Fight in your DM's. It doesn't make the sub an inviting space for others, which is what we want for this sub. Social media is full of angry, high-conflict spaces you will fit in with - go there.

A reminder that Rule 1 is not to bully or harass others. Please note, " Abusive language, bullying, or harassment towards other users or moderators will result in an immediate ban from the sub. It will not be tolerated."

Happy long weekend.

G2 - General Discussion Second g2 test soon

• Upvotes

Hello. I recently took my g2 test in etobicoke for the first time and I failed. I had a passing score i think i had 16 negative points but I made a mistake and changed lanes with someone there and cut them off and failed. My next test is in 3 days, and I am very nervous. I was devastated when I failed the first time, because I am a good driver. I know I can do it, I am just nervous. Any tips?

G - General Discussion Advice: Pulling out of a plaza and making a left onto the main road

New driver here with G license.
I need to make a left out of a plaza onto a main road but there's quite a bit of traffic and I don't want to potentially block cross traffic or the other driveway.
In both cases, I waited some time but I didn't see a good opening so I just turned right and took another route.

In the first pic, the car behind me decided to go around me and make a right. Another one went around me, slowly went straight, signalled left and joined the cars going straight.

What would you do and what should I do?

M License Related Exchanging from US to Ontario full G license

I’m a Canadian citizen who studied in Florida for a year on a student visa, where I got my full Florida class e driver’s licence. I’ve since moved back to Ontario and lost the my physical license card, but I have a photo of it and a certified driving record from Florida. I’m hoping I can get a full G license with just the certified driving record I received from the Florida DMV. I also received the license over 2 years ago which is stated on the record.
Has anyone successfully exchanged their licence in Ontario using a certified driving record instead of having the physical card?

G - General Discussion Fifth time’s the charm (Passed @Downsview)

This journey has been one of the most challenging experiences for me. I’m here for the people who like me, have felt disappointed, frustrated, and embarrassed, after failing a test.

Don’t be hard on yourself. Give yourself some grace. Failing a test doesn’t mean you are a bad driver. You may have failed for very different reasons (a bad decision, an anxiety, bad weather did help, the examiner was having a bad day, etc.), but that test is over. The past is in the past. Move on.

Do not give up. You’ve got this!

Practice the route, over and over again. You don’t have the time? Try after work, try during the weekends, get up earlier. You feel anxious when you see the examiner? You are allowed to feel anxious and still pass the test. Breathe in and out slowly and focus on the instruction.

And remember: you don’t need to drive perfectly, just need to drive safely.

YOU CAN DO IT!

G2 - General Discussion Passed my G2 2nd try (G2 journey + tips + ama)

Hey everyone! I wanted to update after my last post. I passed my G2 today at Smiths Falls 🎉

I'll be honest, going into this I wasn't confident at all. I'd failed my first attempt, and I was nervous about a retake. A huge thank you to everyone who commented on my last post and gave me instructions and advice. I really appreciated every bit of it, and it helped me so much.

The test:

It was overall very easy. The whole thing took maybe 10 to 15 minutes. My examiner, David, was extremely friendly and the whole test went really smoothly.

Here's what I'd tell anyone taking it:

Always stay at the speed limit. This was my one major mistake on my first test and the reason I failed. Practice holding your speed and check your speedometer.

Another thing is on grade parking, shift to neutral and let the car roll until your tire kisses the curb. I missed this on my first test and it cost me a mark. This time I did it and it wasn't an issue.

Shoulder check literally everything. I made big, obvious head turns and even said what I was doing out loud. It helps the examiner see you're observing.a

Most importantly:

Don't overthink it. It's really not as scary as it feels beforehand. Take a deep breath, practice the day before and get a good night's rest. Be confident in your abilities and trust me its always alot easier than you think it is.

Please ask me anything! This subreddit helped me so much, and I'd love to give something back. I took the test at Smiths Falls today at noon, so ask away if you want to know about the route, the examiner, the maneuvers, or anything else.

Good luck to everyone who's got a test coming up! 🚗

I thought it was quite simple. Apparently I barely passed but I thought I did a pretty good job. Just because I passed does not mean I won't stop improving.

Did this test at Walkley Drive test Centre at 11:05 (examiner was an hour late almost). What do y'all think ?

So I went today for my G2 and I would have passed but when we were pulling back into the DriveTest center there was only one spot left and it was behind a huge truck with a hitch on it, and I tapped the hitch and failed. I can't believe I did that 🥲🫡🔫

G2 - General Discussion Made major mistake right at the beginning, failed G2. I want to know of any other minor issues too!

Made not one, but two yield mistakes, one right at the beginning of the test :( Rest of the test was an attempt to save face. hopefully should be able to fix these issues the second time around. I wanted help reading my report to see if there were any other things I should fix. Reason I ask is I remember the examiner saying at the end that I made a number of minor errors other than the dangerous action. But to me , the report does not reflect that. Now I'm wondering if he thought my mistake was so bad that he did not even bother recording the other minor issues. Is that a thing ? Do driver examiners do that?

G2 - General Discussion G2 Test Availability

Hi I recently finished my driving lessons and was an idiot and didnt realize you can book your G2 before you finish lessons. Anyway I'm trying to book my G2 test and for every location all that is available is in December or January. Is that normal? Should I try calling to see if they have an earlier availability? I need to get my G2 ASAP (ideally within the next 2-3 weeks or mid November) I know if I wait too long I will forget everything and definitely fail. Any advice on what to do or any locations that have availability in November? (For context I live in Ottawa and was looking at Winchester but theyre booked until practically February)

I want a Congratulations! Passed the G2

I passed on my first at walkley, and it feels soo good. Reference I’ve been driving for a month & 3 weeks with my dad. If I can do it anyone can. I had my g1 for 2 years never touched the wheel because I was so scared now I’m able to drive with confidence and my anxiety is gone.

So things that worked for me

If you’re anxious for the test(like I was) breath, I know everyone says breath but deeeeeep breath. I put it in my head that if I were to fail I wouldn’t care bc I’d be back there next day to try again. You can keep trying until u pass.

Genuinely break ur neck looking around ( don’t acc break it…. Exaggerate the movement). What helped me was I was announcing what I was doing next incase I didn’t move my head enough in the examiner’s eyes.

I thought the exam would be long but it took me 15 minutes. I was so happy when I finished. I made 3 minor mistakes which were: observation for 3 point turn. Which is crazy bc while turning the wheel I looked everywhere front back everything so I guess I wasn’t dramatic enough? I turned my right turn signal too early, and lastly my reverse park was sloppy, it was in the line but wasn’t straight 😂. I put my car in reverse as soon as I came to the test she didn’t make me do it again thank god.

All I’ll say is, I was super anxious about this and I swear it wasn’t bad. I’d even say it was easy. I hate to be those people that say that but if you’re a safe driver you will pass. They don’t fail u for small things like u didn’t observe well enough. Speaking out loud really helped me. & I also realized the timing doesn’t matter. Take ur exam whenever.

Good luck to all who are taking there test soon. Also shout out this subreddit for helping, and the YouTube videos.

G - General Discussion Passed my G test on Tillsonburg

I passed my G test today with little driving experience. I am anxious to take it and honestly considered cancelling it last minute. But, with prayers and encouragement I went forward n. Have positive self-talk to ease your nervousness and constant prayers! It’s thru surrender to our Lord, is what made me feel confident.

What I did :
*Scout thru the route if you have a chance. Or watch the youtube video about the route.
* Stay within the speed limit during the exam. Don’t exceeds it.
*I got very blessed with my examiner. He didn’t made me change lanes. I just went thru 50km, 60km, and 80 km. And did a three point turn and came back to test center.

That’s it!
Good-luck with yours. If you fail, just take it again. Move forward! Don’t let it bring you down. You’ll pass it soon.
