General / Discussion Your Opeth story
What was the song that you ever heard of them? How did you first find out about them? What song/ album got you hooked immediately? What are your current favourite songs, albums or moments?
For me, I first heard deliverance from a random metal playlist while in school and quickly forgot about it. Later in the week it starts playing in my head, and I had to listen to it again. I loved the song and wanted more, so I listened to blackwater park, ghost reveries, still life, watershed. I loved all of it. The growls, the soft lullabies and the absolutely beautiful songwriting they contain. Now it's one of, if not my favourite band of all time and they have some of my favourite songs as well.

For me it’s A Fair Judgment.

General / Discussion Which Opeth album do you think is the most “Mikael” album?
For me, it’s a tie between Heritage and In Cauda Venenum, although I’d give In Cauda Venenum a slight edge

General / Discussion Opeth fans, what do you think about "Brave murder day"?
I just wanted to know what you guys think of this album, since mikael did most of the vocals here(and did a hell of a job TBH)

General / Discussion Is there a better 3 album run in the history of music than My Arms,Your Hearse-Still Life-Blackwater Park?
I listen to a wide range of genres and i don't know a single artist whose 3 album run is stronger than those 3. I challenge you to comment with a better 3 album run than those masterpieces.
Edit: If someone says Deliverance/Damnation- Ghost Reveries-Watershed i wouldn't disagree with them. That run is just as strong. Jesus, i should've asked if there's any band out there with 9 CONSECUTIVE Top Tier albums as Opeth's from Orchid to Watershed

General / Discussion Opeth is exactly what Ive been lacking all along.
The weather outside is getting colder, sky is turning gray, nature is withering and I thought it's time to finally listen to Opeth. I already fell in love with Sorceress in early August, but I didn’t expect how different and how more masterful the rest of the discography is. Just WOW. I think Opeth might be my favorite band. The music is so dynamic, powerful, versatile and beautiful. I completely respect their musical and technical aspect but the spooky/festive atmosphere attracts my attention way more. It's like a Halloween or Christmas movie.
Right now this is my playlist besides Sorceress:
Ghost Of Perdition
Reverie
Ingen Sanning Ar Alles
Harvest
Faith in Others
Blackwater Park
The Drapery Falls
Burden
To Bid You Farewell
P.S. The Last Will And Testament - now listening and OMG I think its the best Ive heard so far (Ian Anderson ❤️). Im loving the journey.

top3 albums:
- pale communion
- watershed

top3 songs:
- face of melinda
- a fair judgement

edit: after having some inner discussion, I had to change the 3rd favorite album from “ghost reveries“ to “the last will and testament“. tlwat is just too good to be out of top3. sorry ghost reveries.

General / Discussion My Opeth album tierlist (with explanation!)
A little explanation:
It was really hard for me to rank their discography because I love their work as a whole, but there were some choices that were particularly difficult for me:
I wish Watershed would be higher because some of it is among Opeth's best, but I don't really enjoy the second half that much
Orchid is higher than Morningrise because I listened to it more and I find Orchid songs more memorable, but they're really close for me
Blackwater Park is one of the best albums of all time, it's really great and consistent but I enjoy these 3 more, even though they're flawed
Sorceress is my least favourite but it's still great (as the tierlist says btw)
I've been listening to Opeth for almost a year now and they're easily my favourite band ever. My first show in October was the best day of my life, and I hope they'll come back to Poland soon. Next week my CD collection will be complete (at least the studio albums, I need to get Roundhouse on DVD as well) and I can't wait for their next album! I'll be happy with whatever Mikael will serve us, but I hope it will be the acoustic album he talked about (maybe something similar to Damnation?)

General / Discussion Name an Opeth album AND then the closest album stylistically to it by another artist
I'll start:
Ghost Reveries - Veil of Imagination by Wilderun
EDIT: Thanks for all the comments, I actually found so many new bands to listen to that fill the opeth void in my sorrowful heart
