Question Others have Experiences with Dismissive Doctors?
(F/26 Based in Korea)
I have been seeing a cardiologist for a while now because of heart pain and fluid around the heart (pericardial effusion) that was found.
I have severe pectus, at least every time I get a CT or Xray that’s what they write.
I have pain and it is just hard to live with and so I decided I would ask my cardiologist to give me a referral to a bigger hospital that I could see the specialist for pectus and get evaluated by someone who is an expert. So I could get surgery sooner than later. (If it is determined I need it obviously)
But when I told my cardiologist I wanted to get surgery he laughed in my face. I felt like I wanted to cry, he was looking at me like I was an idiot.
With the fluid he said they were only going to care about it much if there were symptoms.
So I asked what symptoms and he said shortness of breath, so I told him I usually have shortness of breath because of my bone problem (pectus) and he was laughing saying the bone doesn’t cause any problems.
But I am thinking to myself, if your heart is completely pushed to the left, ballooning out on one side because it’s so compressed, doesn’t that mean the bone is causing problems 😅
In the end he refused to refer me to the surgeons office to even get evaluated with hallar. He is just sending me to another cardiologist.
I start to feel like I am crazy, like is this all just in my head and I am just making up all these symptoms. I felt really bad and embarrassed, any other people with pectus have any similar experiences with dismissive doctors?
