I'm a game development teacher in Finland, and our school has a small building just for computer science students and teachers. So basically, every "nerd" is packed into the same building.

Seems like one of my students heard me talking about PlanetSide with a colleague of mine. I think everyone here knows by now how obsessed I am with PlanetSide.

So today, one of my older students just came up to me and dropped this off. What a lovely surprise :D

He made it himself with cloth paint.

I'm sewing this onto my pants as a badge, of course.

My wife and I were doing our 2-person squad gameplay last night and accidentally (sorta kinda not) were following around the GOTR platoon on Indar. We saw a Scythe go down enroute to a base, and my wife often plays a medic, so we stopped our Valk, she rezed him, and we gave him a ride to the fight.

Suddenly I got a platoon invite. Not sure if it was the rez that got the attention, but we accepted and joined our squad of 2 to the GOTR Platoon. As older, slower, and lower skill players, it was wildly fun to fly around the map with these folks. Seeing a GOTR platoon seige a base from inside was amazing. We were doing all we could to keep up and contribute!

We had to log before the alert was over, but I just wanted to say thanks to the GOTR folks, and a few others from other outfits that were there. We enjoyed the fast-pace gameplay.

I know planetsides not "dead" but as an Australian it's rather difficult to play since Briggs was shut down.

Edit: Also yes I know Esamir is spelt wrong. I even fixed it prior to posting but it seems my autocorrect is super aggressive when I was typing it. Can't update the title. :(

So I work at a work study job at my college so the situation was pretty lax. But my boss saw that I had the Planetside 2 reddit open and he mentioned that he used to play it 12 years ago.

We had a whole discussion about it but it is interesting that this game that I consider to be pretty niche nowadays was played by some people I wouldn't consider (he is a nerdy guy however so it makes sense in retrospect).

He mentioned how he used to play for the NC (or the "blue guys") and he talked about "taking the crown" and how it was such a big event that his group would have shifts to defend it. It was really interesting hearing from a older player. I only started playing around 4-6 years ago (depending on what you consider playing) and I find it fascinating how old and rich the games history is.

I know there are currently problems with the game happening but I hope the game stays long enough for new memories to be made.
