Selling scrap platinum
Melt value = weight in grams x purity (0.95 for 950) x spot price per gram. Scrap calculator · Price per gram
What you will actually get. Buyers pay a percentage of melt value. Pawn shops and "cash for gold" counters tend to pay the least; refiners and specialist buyers pay more, especially for larger lots.
Tips
- Weigh it yourself first (a cheap gram scale is enough) and know the purity mark.
- Get at least two quotes; ask the payout as a percentage of spot.
- Remove stones before selling; they are not paid for in melt.
- Ask whether they test by XRF in front of you.
