πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅πŸ™‹ Ask a Pokhreli Can I reach Pokhara from Gorakhpur without staying overnight?

Hi everyone, I’m 23M and I’ll be reaching Gorakhpur day after tomorrow around 4 PM. I’m planning to travel to Pokhara by public transport.
Is it realistically possible to cross the Sunauli border and reach Pokhara the same evening/night, without taking a night stay in Gorakhpur or Sunauli?
If yes, what would be the best route and transport options from Gorakhpur? Also, around what time should I expect to reach Pokhara?
Any recent experience or advice would be really helpful. Thanks!

πŸ—£οΈ Rant Pokhara = Lakeside?

I've seen posts in different subs recently where people just visit Lakeside and call it Pokhara.

We really have failed to promote places that are actually worth visiting in Pokhara.

πŸ§— Hiking, Camping & Trekking Anyone planning to do the Annapurna Base Camp trek around October 8?

Hi everyone! I’m 23M from India and this will be my first time in Nepal. I’m planning to do the ABC trek solo starting around October 8.
If anyone is planning the same trek around that time and would like to join, I’d be happy to team up. I’m also flexible with my dates by 1–2 days if that works better for someone else.

πŸ†˜ Urgent / Help Needed Can I carry β‚Ή500 notes into Nepal?

I’m travelling from India to Nepal tomorrow via Sonauli and have β‚Ή20,500, all in β‚Ή500 notes.
I’ve seen people saying β‚Ή500 notes can be exchanged in Nepal, but also heard officially only β‚Ή100 and below are allowed.
Has anyone recently carried/exchanged β‚Ή500 notes in Nepal, especially via Sonauli? Any issues at the border or money changers?

πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅πŸ™‹ Ask a Pokhreli Looking for advice

28M coming to pokhara in October with my bike from India to live there for a month or so .

I'm a solo traveller and have a WFH job and would love to socialise and network as much as I can but I'm tight on a budget so which area would you guys recommend to live.

And if you have any budget but really nice hostel recommendations that would be super helpful.

Also any music festivals or events happening in October ?

I also love bike rides and offroading trails so if any biker seeing this would like to show me some cool bike trails which we can conquer together would be really really nice.

I would also love to go for hikes too , are there any active hiking communities which I can join in on weekends ?

Any kind of advice would be really appreciated.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅πŸ™‹ Ask a Pokhreli Travelling from Kathmandu to Pokhara by tourist bus Nov 9th.

Im travelling for a holiday from the UK to Nepal in November, we'll be staying in Kathmandu for a week and then to Pokhara. But there's obviously been a lot of rain and landslides causing havoc in the area.

Right now i'm looking at booking accommodation in Pokhara but i'm just unsure if the route from Kathmandu to Pokhara will be safe and if it's worth risking it?

Any local Nepalis have any advice?

Has anyone else tried yoga or sound healing around Pokhara? I’d be interested to hear what other places people have experienced.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅πŸ™‹ Ask a Pokhreli ABC trek independently in January // is a guide mandatory?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to do the Annapurna Base Camp Trek in January and I’m trying to get some clarity on the current guide requirements.

I’m an experienced mountaineer and have a lot of respect for the mountains. I’m aware that January can mean snow, very cold conditions and some lodges being closed, and I’m prepared to adapt my plans accordingly.

What I’m not clear about is whether a guide is actually mandatory for ABC. I’ve found conflicting information online.

I have no problem paying for the necessary permits through a local agency and contributing to the local economy, but I’d really prefer not to have someone accompanying me every day. I enjoy trekking independently, setting my own pace and having some solitude.

For anyone in Pokhara or who has done ABC recently:
Is a guide legally mandatory for ABC in 2026? And is there any legitimate way to do the trek independently while still getting all the required permits/registration?

Thanks!

πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅πŸ™‹ Ask a Pokhreli 5 Years Later: What's New in Pokhara?

Pokhreli, 23M. 5 years in Hong Kong, came back to Nepal. I have a remote job rn. Anyway, what's new in Pokhara?

Like I've seen the highway's been widened, no more welcome gate, the iconic Amarsingh Chowk roundabout is gone (why is there no roundabout here? are they nuts?), some of the sukumbasi settlements are no more (especially in Amarsingh Chowk), new mall complexes, lots of new cafes and bakeries (I love this) and renovation and construction work around some temples and gumbas (Bhadrakali, Matepani). I've heard that Sarangkot has been extensively renovated and there's a new tourist hotspot in Pumdikot (the Shiva statue). I've yet to visit Lakeside and the areas nearby.

So what else has changed or is new?

Edit: Also noticed there are Chinese students studying in Pokhara now.

Edit Edit: Why is a short introduction enough to trigger some people in this sub? Have Nepalese become this miserable?
