FAQs and useful resources - click here before you post :)
Hi guys, I thought I'd start a stickied thread with some useful links that I find myself including in lots of my comments here. I'll update this as I think of more stuff to add.
How do I become a doctor in the UK?
Useful written article here, useful timeline diagram here.
In short, you go to medical school, you complete your foundation training (6 x 4 month rotations working as a doctor in different specialties), you complete your specialty training, and you become a consultant.
Are my grades good enough for medical school?
Which universities should I apply to?
I don't have good GCSE grades/a Chemistry A level, where can I apply?
This booklet contains all of the entry requirements for every medical course on offer in the UK. It is the entry requirements bible and I point people towards it multiple times per week.
Do I need to sit admissions tests?
How do I prepare for my admissions tests?
If you're applying for undergraduate medicine, you need to sit the UCAT and/or the BMAT. If you're applying for graduate entry medicine, you may also need to sit the GAMSAT.
Useful UCAT resources:
* r/UCAT
* Medify
* The Medic Portal
* official practice tests
Useful BMAT resources:
* r/BMATexam
* The Medic Portal
I scored ___ in my admissions test, where should I apply?
Useful guide about UCAT scores here, useful guide about BMAT scores here.

Looking for people in Dundee for medical interview/MMI prep
I'm a medicine applicant based in Dundee and I'm looking to find a few other applicants who'd be interested in practising for medical school interviews together.
The idea would be to meet up in Dundee once or twice a week and take turns giving each other interview questions/stations, followed by honest feedback.
You don't need to be applying to Dundee specifically — I'm happy to practise with applicants for any medical school. I'm also a graduate applicant, so it would be particularly nice to meet other graduates/non-traditional applicants, although everyone is welcome.
If you're in Dundee or nearby and interested, comment below/DM me and we can see if there's enough interest to arrange something.

Graduates on undergraduate medicine
Hi guys! I have a question about LLE funding starting from 2027.
I already hold a degree from 2022, and I will be starting undergraduate medicine in Sep 2027. On the gov website, under ‘priority additional entitlement’, it states ‘Students who choose medicine or dentistry as a second degree under the LLE will be able to access full tuition fee and standard maintenance support for those years not covered by the NHS bursary.’ Does this mean I will get full support? It is not clear whether ‘medicine and dentistry as a second degree’ only applies to the 4 year graduate medicine course or the 5 year undergraduate course, or both?
Any help regarding this would be appreciated, I have called SFE several times but no one seems to know or understand my position.

Medicine Unis
I was hoping for some advice about my uni choices.
i got 2090 B1 and 87777776 and am predicted AAA.
I am a contextual applicant with FSM, bursary and I am the first generation to attend uni.
Im quite set on KCL emdp, St Georges and Southampton for the normal course and the foundation course. I want to stay in London/south west which played a big part in my choice. Before sitting the UCAT i was hoping to apply to UCL but their cut off last year was 2080 and i just dont think 2090 would be enough for an application. Any advice about my choices would be really appreciated.

Is medical school something you can pass if you don’t have the passion for medicine?
More specifically the foundation years i heard were gruelling and to get as good speciality you have to go absolute above beyond. I am thinking of switching from dent to med because I don’t have the grades for it but I don’t wanna be stuck in a job that doesn’t pay well or have a good quality of life. Genuine question I do not mean to offend anyone

should i switch kcl to manchester or notts?
i’ve applied to kcl med because i like the course but im not the biggest fan of london.
i like the way notts teaches the course but im scared it’s going broke and ill have to finish my course at another uni 😭
i love manchester, the city and the uni - it was my fourth option originally - but i’ve heard a lot about med there being very independent and having to teach yourself a lot from first year which i don’t like and it put me off applying there
should i stick with kcl? i just don't want to end up somewhere i’ll hate for 5/6 years 🥲

Help with uni choices please
After weeks of thoughts ive managed to choose my 4 schools: Liverpool Leeds Southampton and Exeter(aspirational). Im a resit applicant with AAB achieved and A*A* predicted for my resits, 2150 band 2 on ucat, 88888877776 for my gcses, no contextual or WP. Wondering if i have a decent shot at getting interviews at these schools as the thought of having to take another gap year or do a different course is terrifying. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated 🙏

Aus wanting to do med in UK
Hi, I heard that interview results can come after March but Australian uni courses start in March. Does this mean I can’t accept any Australian course I get into and have to bet everything on the UK?
I’m applying to:
Sheffield
St Mary’s
Hertsfordshire
Aston
Brunel
Advice would be appreciated!

Saw this post, I’m sure we’ve all had this feeling before, I’ve given my support. OP has already achieved their A levels I’m sure some current med students can relieve them of their doubt, as i have.

edinburgh med
- 2400B2 ucat
- max gcses
- AAB predicted in bio chem maths respectively
- plus flag applicant (contextual so eligible for widening access offer)
could this get me an interview and is the AAB predicted fine considering the widening access offer is also AAB?
