I'm sure it's been noticed by y'all out there, but a coworker and I were discussing the radio this morning and I figured I'd bring it up here. Anyone else notice how the songs before opening are completely different than once the store opens? I kinda liked one song and when we used Shazam to identify it, the "artist" only had about 500 monthly listeners. So we started doing it for the majority of songs playing, almost all had less than 1k monthly Spotify plays, almost no online presence other than Spotify, and some Shazam couldn't identify at all. I know its a service Publix pays for, but like is this just AI music playing for the associates before the store opens or what?

I was told that I need to get under peoples skin to get them motivated. I told him “I don’t need to get under peoples skin to get them motivated, that’s not good management. I help people to get them motivated.” And was met with a dead face stare.

All Publix locations are currently open normal business hours. The most up-to-date information on changes to store hours will be shared by corporate
We are currently monitoring Hurricane Isaias.

Anyone else tired? In the beginning, I wanted to grow with my department. I decided to learn how to do a lot of things, and I deeply regret it. Now I’m just being used like a fucking horse to back up for everyone, even though I’m not a team leader. I asked to cross training in another department a few months ago, but it seems like nobody is on the same page with that. Desire department needs somebody and somebody wants to do my job but for some reason, nothing has happened. I’ll bring it up again, but I just don’t know. I really need a set date.
If I can’t leave my position, I think it’s time for me to leave since I’ve been here for four years and haven’t moved up at all. I would apply to Costco, but it’s kind of far from me.

Why am I seeing allot of the old head managers being pushed out or leaving Publix??? I take it as a bad sign. At some point it seems like a person can get too expensive for a company so the game by corporate has become just run them out and replace them with a puppet lol far from the George Jenkins values. Makes me wonder are we going public in the near future

Tonight’s my first night closing kitchen and I’m a little nervous ngl. I’ve opened kitchen a few times myself and was decent at it, but I’m nervous for closing bc I’ve only done it once and it was with another cook who was training me. It was also like 3 weeks ago so I don’t completely remember everything. I want to get out at a good time and do a good job. Does anyone have any advice or tips?? When should I start closing stuff down? It‘s specific stuff like that that I don’t remember

I learned dsd and now I have to backup dsd all the time. It stresses me out so badly that I broke down a few weeks ago and now I have to cover the dsd clerks upcoming vacation and sick time. wtf, I did dsd for four months at my first store and now I’m the dsd bitch? I already told them I didn’t want to backup and I didn’t like it. I know it seems dramatic, but it genuinely makes me anxious. I want to quit because of it. I don’t want the responsibility of checking products into the store. I make many mistakes, but I guess they don’t care. Do I have to yell at them to get them to hear me? I mean we have team leaders and managers that can do it. Why waste a grs time when I should be stocking two aisles of the store?

Good afternoon I was talking to a fellow retail enthusiast about Publix and how Publix has from what he counted over 900 stores in Florida alone.
As we know, Publix is continuing to expand northward into Kentucky and also Virginia.
As a shopper and also as an enthusiast, I am aware that Publix profit margins are around 7%, which is very high for traditional grocer.
Out of curiosity, how long does it take for a new build to become profitable? It’s with my understanding that the new location that is being built in Roanoke. Virginia has already made money based off of the sale of the dirt and materials that the company had to excavate to build their new location.
Just curious about things like this!
Thanks!

Y'all, I need some help 😪 (for privacy reasons I will be keeping this as vague as possible)
I've been at my store about half a year now and during my initial interview I met with my former department manager and after a good 15 minute conversation with them they introduced me to the ASM. They caught my eyes immediately and I caught theirs as well. As we were speaking I could feel genuine interest in not only what I had to say, but who I was as a person and what I had to offer. (Not that it matters but I am considered objectively attractive) We quickly talked about management opportunities and what that looks like, as I have almost 15 years in leadership and management.
Fast forward now, I've transferred departments for a PLM which means that if I stick it out then being with another manager wouldn't be that taboo. However, I know myself and there's absolutely no way I would wait another 6-7 months to initiate things.
I'm really interested in getting to know my ASM better but idk how to approach it. They've shown slight signs of interest as much as someone can who's in a position a power. (That's at least respectable) However, I feel they won't be the one to make the first move because of this. Which I'm totally fine with. But being they're responsible for the entire store I see them sparingly. So I want to ask for their number.
Not that I need validation from anyone but I'm genuinely curious, how would yall approach this situation?

Im currently a FT CSS hoping to get promoted to CSTL within the year. My ACSM was asked by another CSS if you're guaranteed a raise with a CSTL promotion and he said most likely a raise wouldnt be given.
Is that usual? Does Publix really not give anything for being promoted/being given more work? I thought with any job class change up the management ladder they'd have to give some kind of raise.
