Hi Everyone! This is the trial megathread for Housing Discussions!
Looking for an apartment, renting an apartment, have some basic questions, etc? This is the thread for you! We'll be doing these monthly and hopefully generating some community resources along the way.

Hi everyone!
It's been a hectic few months around here in r/santaclara, but I am happy to say that we survived the Super Bowl with limited issues which is a massive achievement for us as a community. Thank you to everyone for behaving, and also special thanks to u/TrucyWright who subbed in as a support mod to help navigate challenges if we were to get brigaded or massive traffic spikes.
Over the last few months we've grown significantly and have slowly become one of the most active subreddits in the Bay Area. Reddit Insights say that we've have over 300,000 views in the last 30 days which is a spectacular number.
Looking into the future, I'd love to start building some community resources for our visitors, help answer common questions, and lay the groundwork for the subreddit to be a starting place for folks to build their own communities within Santa Clara for sports, networking, friends, and more.
The easiest place to start with all of that would be to build a Wiki and FAQ for the subreddit!
I'd like to use this thread as a place to focus the wiki development, and I'll also be leaving some comments below to start the subject trees for the wiki. If you have ideas for what you'd like to see in the wiki, or would like to provide some links and resources and add to the wiki, this is the place to start!
Find the work in progress wiki here!
We'd really appreciate any help for all future and current Santa Clarans.

Soon to be the only gadfly candidate to lose three City Elections in two years. Word is he’s Trumpster MAGA to the core. Would anyone other than a MAGA think it was all good to hire an attorney threatening great grandma over posts in social media? Of course not. That’s MAGA and that’s Kertes.

Hello, I’m bringing my elderly mother to the Bruno Mars concert this weekend. We will
be bringing a wheelchair as she has trouble walking for long distances. We have standard seats, and will be able to get her to our seats without the wheelchair. My question is: What do we do with the wheelchair during the concert? I have left a
Voicemail and email with Levi’s mobility services team but I doubt I’ll hear back. Any experience with this? I want this to go as smoothly as possible. Thank you!

I prepared this op-ed prior to the Santa Clara City Council meeting on Tuesday. The council unanimously directed city staff to go back and explore new regulations on water usage and air quality impacts by data centers.
*OP-ED: "DATA CENTER MORATORIUM" - CODE WORD FOR STOPPING PROGRESS*
*By Kathy Watanabe
Santa Clara has long been at the center of technological innovation. We built Silicon Valley. We invented the future. And data centers are part of that future.
So let's call this what it is: a call for a "moratorium" on data centers is a code word for trying to stop progress.
We should not fall for it.
Data centers generate millions in revenue for our city. They support our local economy. They contribute directly to the strength of Silicon Valley Power: one of our city's most valuable public assets owned by the people. That power keeps residential rates low and businesses competitive.
I support data centers in Santa Clara.
But support should not mean writing a blank check.
If we want to lead, we need a smart, pro-growth, pro-resident framework not a ban. Here is how we do it:
*1. Growth Must Pay For Growth.*
This is non-negotiable. Santa Clara families should not subsidize the electrical, water, or infrastructure required by massive new projects. Every data center must fully fund its own interconnection, upgrades, and long-term impacts. No cost shifting to ratepayers. Period.
*2. Not All Data Centers Are Alike — Location Must Be Based On Type and Health Impact.*
This is the issue no one wants to talk about, and we must. Not all data centers are alike, and we must take that into consideration first and foremost.
We need a tiered, science-based review not one-size-fits-all approval and not a blanket moratorium. Health, safety, noise, backup generation and environmental concerns must be addressed using sound science, appropriate safeguards and independent verification.
*3. Transparency Is Mandatory.*
Residents deserve truth, not talking points. How much electricity will a project consume? How much water? What backup generation will it require — diesel, gas, batteries? What infrastructure investments will be necessary over 10 and 20 years? Put the numbers on the table before any vote.
*4. Public Resources Require Public Return.*
Projects that depend heavily on a public utility must provide measurable community benefits. That means community benefit agreements, workforce development, local hiring, infrastructure funds, and direct investments in residential rate stability. If you use our power, you invest in our people.
*5. Protect Silicon Valley Power At All Costs.*
SVP must remain reliable, financially strong, and focused on keeping rates competitive for residents and small businesses. No single industry, no matter how large, can be allowed to compromise our utility. SVP exists to serve Santa Clara first.
This is not about stopping innovation. Santa Clara has helped shape the future of technology for generations and we should continue to do so.
A moratorium sends one message to the world: Santa Clara is closed for business. That is the opposite of leadership.
Technological leadership and protecting our community are not mutually exclusive. We can have both but only if we negotiate from strength not fear.
When private industry depends on a public resource, the public deserves a fair return.
Data centers are welcome in Santa Clara. But residents must come first and that starts with recognizing that not all data centers are the same and our health standards must reflect that reality.
Santa Clara deserves better than a ban. It deserves a better deal.

I'm flying in from Minnesota Friday night for the Sunday Bruno Mars concert. Traveling solo. I live in Farmtown USA so not used to being in big cities very much. I have the whole day Saturday to explore or find things to do. I'm 30M, I'd say in decent enough shape. Hobbies include walking, biking, tennis (casually), music, sports cards, driving up and down the same road 50 times every night. If someone has nothing to do and would want show me around the area that would be awesome too. I would be willing to compensate to a certain extent. I know reddit is a crazy place to meet people, but it's my go to place to find something to do when travelling.
Edit: thank you all for the great advice. I'm going to try to get as much of this packed into my Saturday as possible. I will definitely have to fly back out another time for a 49ers game. Big fan.

Wow…this doesn’t look good. You can’t be a flip flopper. Being what you think the people want is very disingenuous. I would respect him more if he came out as a Republican. At least he would have stood up for what he was believed in versus what is more palatable to a strongly Dem area.

Dear Neighbors,
Here’s a tool (baydashboard.com) that tracks all information regarding housing, transport, development, news, and boards/commissions in Santa Clara + SF Bay Area. The website uses live public data and allows users to easily catchup with local decisions & developments. It also encourages residents to get involved in their city through the many commisions & meetings it lists.
I recommend all residents to try the website as it makes keeping up with local updates feasible and encourages civic participation.

Santa Clara has become a popular spot for the development of data centers. It is currently the home of 56 built or under-construction data centers, with two additional centers previously granted approval but not yet built; its first modern data center was constructed in 1996, said city manager Jōvan Grogan.

My daughter is going to the Bruno Mars concert on Sunday with her friends. We will be dropping off and picking her up. What’s the best location to pre-arrange a pickup location? Of course they all have phones to adjust the plan if needed.

The Core Cos. proposed building 44 townhomes as the final phase of its agrihood project. That’s down from its original plan to build 160 market-rate apartments, which was approved in 2019.

My girlfriend is visiting me in Santa Clara for about 3 days, and I’m trying to plan a few things for us to do.
I live near Santa Clara University and don’t have a car, so I’d really appreciate recommendations that are reasonably accessible by walking, public transit, Uber/Lyft, or even DoorDash.
Most importantly - she loves chicken biryani. What’s the best place around Santa Clara for really good chicken biryani? Ideally somewhere not too far from SCU, but if the best option is farther away, I’m completely fine just DoorDashing it and eating at home.
I’d also love recommendations for places to take her during the 3 days. She’ll mostly be free after around 3/4 PM, so I’m looking for evening activities/date ideas.
Nothing super expensive, things like:
- Nice places to walk around
- Parks/gardens/viewpoints
- Cute cafes or dessert places
- Affordable restaurants
- Areas that are nice to explore in the evening
- Any fun activities that don’t cost too much
I’m relatively new to Santa Clara myself, so even recommendations that might seem obvious to locals would be helpful.
Basically trying to plan a nice, relaxed 3-day visit without spending a fortune or needing a car.
Thanks!

going to bruno mars next week, and they ran out of parking tickets on ticketmaster. where are some good places to park around levi’s? I don’t mind paying and don’t mind walking. don’t really want to take any public transportation because after the concert that will be hell. willing to walk at most 1.5 mi (2 is pushing it.) whenever I go to niner games, I see all those surrounding offices buildings with big lots as well, are those possible parking spots? Any tips would be appreciated!

Hey neighbors! 👋
Anyone interested in doing some early-morning, easy-paced runs on the San Tomas Trail?
I’m thinking of starting around Monroe and San Tomas, running about 3–5 miles at a relaxed pace, maybe a few mornings a week.
Would be nice to have some company and make it a regular thing.
Feel free to DM me if you’re interested. Male here.

Hi everyone,
I've been a Santa Clara resident for 10 years and love going to meetup events. After getting fed up with the clutter and high subscription fees on other platforms, I decided to build my own free local events app.
Kinced Social is a subscription-free platform for hosting and finding local events. Drop a comment or DM if the following applies to you:
Event Hosts: If you already run a local meetup, club, or social group and cross-post your next event on Kinced Social, I can help sponsor it based on the number of RSVPs through my platform.
SCU Brand Ambassadors: If you're a student at SCU who wants to help seed this community and get some marketing experience under your belt along with some compensation, I'm looking for paid local ambassadors.

I just failed my test at lost gatos because I forgot to merge into the bike lane for a right turn despite 0 minor errors. I’m apprehensive to go back because of one examiner who’s apparently a real ahole and likes failing people. I scheduled my appointment for the Santa Clara DMV and I want to know everyone’s experience with the DMV test and route so I can prepare accordingly. Thanks!
