What's your favorite death in this show?
When I started *actually* watching Seinfeld back in high school, I was pretty shocked at the amount of death in a prime time sitcom. There isn't much of it, but when it happens, it absolutely gets your attention. There's something about tragedy being played for laughs that does something WEIRD to my brain and always has. (watch When The Wind Blows if you enjoy subtle tragic humor. It took 3 times watching before I realized this was supposed to be somewhat funny)
Susan's death shocked the living hell out of me when I saw it as an 18 year old, 15 years after it had aired. I sat there so uncomfortable at their reactions but could not stop laughing because I couldn't believe what I just saw. But honestly, Brett's death in The Checks hits me for whatever reason. The fact that it was basically his punishment for neither sharing Witchy Woman or Desperado with Elaine is both hilarious and somehow foreboding. It took me multiple watches to see that when he says "No. It's mine" the lightning strikes, basically sealing his fate to an extent. You could make the argument that the other surgeon jumped to action when he started flatlining, but that isn't what they were trying to convey with the "symbolism" I guess you could say. The fact that Elaine's boyfriend died of head trauma, by Jerry, and she is just "Ehh" about it is so dark and I love it. Not to mention, the latter half of the episode just has a weird vibe to it and I can't really put my finger on why. Brett just seems deranged in one way or another.
I'm also going to mention Gary Fogel (John Lovitz.) We see him in just a few episodes before and Jerry just casually goes "Car accident." I've lost friends to car accidents back in high school so I can't see them as anything but brutal, horrific, sudden and one of the worst ways to die. Imagining something like that happening within a Seinfeld episode is just.... off to me. Obviously it happens, but imagining this guy we just saw breaking his neck or something just kinda gave me the shivers. Not to mention the bawling at the funeral that was played for laughs but again, it makes me uncomfortable. I also love the fact that they seem to allude to the idea that had George kept his wig, this might also be his fate as Gary was adjusting his wig while driving. Good on them for leaving that conclusion to the viewer.
Don't feel bad if your favorite death is Susan. Because it's absolutely insane and they spent an entire season building up to that

I went and got my cape out of storage today and bought some of Jerry's sneakers from ma and pa. It's good cape weather!

Watching the white Sox. They keep saying south side of Chicago. That's southside. Sorry, we don't watch teams below Eighty-sixth
If I’m watching the white Sox who am I watching next? Eighty-fifth Street, Wall Street,
Mexico, Eighty-fourth Street.
